  1. 3 day levitation review. the venue: palmer events center the good...convenient location with ample parking for $10, easy security, cold AC, restrooms- never a line, bars- never a line, decent food trucks, ample outdoor spaces to chill, nice view of the city. the bad...sound at the indoor stage was mostly very bad. there were a handful of bands that sounded good but overall it was terrible. it was also absurdly dark in there even between bands. turning on the house lights between sets would have been helpful. the outdoor stage wasn't large enough and it was baking in the sun for most of the afternoon. friday: castle rat- medieval fantasy doom metal. they had a whole theatrical theme with costumes and a storyline...sort of like gwar but not as big of a production. they were entertaining, definitely enjoyed their set. skloss- 2nd time seeing them, their live show has improved since last year. instrumental droning, sludgy psych rock. they were good. blood incantation- they used 20 minutes of their set doing soundcheck and then still sounded like shit when they finally started. sound was so bad i couldn't listen to more than a song before i bailed. rickshaw billies burger patrol- lots of energy on the outdoor stage. played a couple of new songs that i didn't immediately love, otherwise pretty much their standard fun set. the sword- plagued by terrible sound. there was a speaker crackling the whole time, couldn't hear vocals, couldn't hear lead guitar. a real shame. setlist was good, did a cover of space oddity that i hadn't heard them play before. acid bath- somehow the sound for this set was incredible. i was only somewhat familiar with their music but they fucking crushed it. this was absolutely the best set of the weekend for me. extremely good. the armed- didn't catch much of their set but they did a really good cover of nin somewhat damaged that stopped me as i was heading to the food court. mastodon- the sound was decent, not my favorite setlist. once the lasers kicked, the visuals were excellent. saturday: wednesday- new album is good, sounded fine live. good start to the day. blonde redhead- one of the few bands that sounded really good on the indoor stage. had never listened to them before but i reallly liked their set. swervedriver- another band i wasn't really familiar with. didn't like the vocals but they sounded good when they got to jamming. raveonettes- danish psych duo. have seen them a handful of times but i think this was the best one yet. not sure who the additional guitarist was but he added a lot to their sound. one of my favorite sets of the weekend. unknown mortal orchestra- maybe the worst sound of any band the entire weekend. a muddy fucking mess. truly unlistenable. listened to 2 songs and bailed. tv on the radio- sound was great, setlist was great, energy was great. very good set. sunday: population II- canadian psych rock trio. had some heavy jams and good energy. nice way to start the day. a place to bury strangers- a wall of noise and strobe lights and awesomeness. did their normal thing where they play a few songs in the middle of the floor. love those guys. diles que no me maten- psych rock band from mexico city. it all seemed like improv, not sure they had any real songs. didn't love it. frankie and the witch fingers- another set with sound problems...the sound completely cut out a couple of times. they had insane energy and the crowd went absolutely nuts. black angels- more sound issues. couldn't hear the guitar, vocals were extremely loud. they played a new song that i liked a lot. wish the sound would've been better. built to spill- they fucked up a couple songs but mostly sounded great. would've liked something off of you in reverse. i would hurt a fly and carry the zero made up for any shortcomings. two of my favorite songs ever. struggled to make it through built to spill because i was fucking beat after 3 days of festival. didn't catch destroyer or pavement. fun weekend, if they can sort out the sound issues i would gladly go back to the palmer events center next year.

    Pink Floyd

loved in the beato interview when gilmour was talking about the comfortably numb solo...not thinking about the fans' expectations, plays it how he feels it and it's fun every time. such the opposite of waters.
  3. sound at moody center has been exceptional for almost everything i've seen there (mastodon being the exception). it's a really good venue compared to 99% of other arenas.
  4. all of the set times are on the levitation website. it's over by 10:30 each night.
  5. the best music festival of the year kicks off tomorrow. not all that excited about the palmer events center but hopefullly it's alright. the friday lineup of metal bands is extremely awesome. will be going all 3 days.
  6. i enjoyed the gilmour interview just because i've never heard him go into that much detail regarding the recording process, effects, etc. i think gilmour appreciated that the interview didn't focus on band drama. i do find beato to be fairly annoying. could be the way it's edited, but he frequently completely ignores obvious follow up questions and moves on to some unrelated topic.
  7. i don't get it either. they aren't bad but they do nothing for me.
  8. saw natural child at sagebrush on saturday night. pretty uninspired set. first time at sagebrush, hopefully the last.
  9. sound at scoot inn is consistently terrible.
  10. these were popular with the homebrew crowd when i was in college because of the reusable top, so i drank quite a few of them. they were in green bottles though. nice, crisp pilsner from what i remember.
  11. found this website yesterday, nintourhistory.com. you can add your dates and it compiles a bunch of stats...how many times you've seen each song, who the band members were, etc. i've seen 108 unique songs and 422 total. wish and hlah were the only 2 songs played at all 19 shows. hurt and gave up at 18/19. fun to play around with.
  12. they just announced a nine inch noize set at coachella.
  13. lol. hate to see the headliner stealing stage time. what a travesty.
  14. i've got tickets for viagra boys whole 3 night tx run hou>aus>dal. not sure i'll make the final show but gonna give it a shot!
  15. saw NIN in tampa and ft worth last week. have seen 3 shows this tour, 2 in the pit and 1 from lower bowl seats. it was nice seeing the full visual experience from the seats, but the pit is absolutely the way to go. this tour has been incredible, the opening songs on the b stage are so good. think i preferred the tampa setlist the most but all of them have been absolutely amazing. have seen them 19 times over the last 25 years and this tour is definitely one of the best and most creative.
  16. i'm basically still treating it as camping and cooking all my own meals. think i've only eaten at the lodge one time ever and it wasn't good. but yeah, i can see how that would not be appealing to some.
  17. saw neil young and the chrome hearts monday in denver. more songs and less jamming than the show i saw last year with crazy horse backing him. definitely more mellow this time around, and the vibe with this band is completely different. micah nelson is not great but i think that's part of why neil likes playing with him. spooner oldham is in the band but i couldn't hear a thing he played all night, which seems to be the norm. wasn't the best neil young show i've seen but i'm happy any time i have a ticket and he shows up and plays.
  18. filter was supposed to be the opener and i was excited about seeing them. didn't realize they dropped out until i arrived at the venue, so that didn't help.
  19. i did. not a fan.
  20. reservations are open for the basin and lodge. have always wanted to stay in one of the cabins so i finally booked one for november...usually they're booked way far in advance.

    Spoon

i've seen pixies, and did not enjoy it. just not for me, man.

    Spoon

hoping to find some last minute cheap tickets for the austin show. i want to see spoon but don't care about pixies, and $100 to see spoon from that shitty lawn is too much.
  23. i found conversations with tom petty to be much better than the zanes book. the zanes book had the heroin reveal but that's about it. shakey is a great neil young book.
  24. saw jerry cantrell saturday night at emo's. played 6 or 7 aic songs and the rest were his solo stuff. wasn't sure what kind of crowd to expect but there were a lot of people there. it was good, not great. i didn't love his backing band.
