  1. saw the documentary last night. nothing groundbreaking or new really but it was a nice snapshot of the band. tp still seemed like a really down to earth guy even as a relatively new rock star. they seemed like a group of dudes who were truly doing it for the love of music. this is the best of the covers i've heard, haven't liked any of them all that much.
  2. it's a terrible list but also jeff stuffings seems like he sucks.

    Burgers

buddy's has a franklin burger special for the month of october that is delicious. double with american cheese, franklin bbq sauce, and crispy fried onions.
  4. big tom petty week. the movie is in theaters this thursday and sunday. sunday is also tom petty day, sun radio playing tp all day and there's a tribute concert at hotel ella from 5-7.
  5. they end up being the opener for a lot of bands i see. they're not bad but it's never really clicked for me.
  6. alessandro cortini last night at central presbyterian church downtown. he's a touring member of NIN and makes ambient electronic music. if you've ever done a sound bath, it was a remarkably similar experience. he layered simple beats and ambient droning noises on top of one another to create very dense soundscapes that ultimately pulsed into a thundering crescendo. there were some abstract trippy visuals in the background but otherwise complete darkness, it was mesmerizing. almost a hallucinogenic feel to the weird zone that your brain goes into listening to that sort of music. i loved it.
  7. same place my hops & grain investment ended up.
  8. they broke up in 2022. levitation is the first show they're playing since the break-up. no idea if it's permanent, haven't seen any other dates announced.
  9. have still seen nothing about jolly pumpkin going out of business.
  10. Levitation I've got: Thur: Strange Lot/Mdou Moctar/Black Angels Fri: Osees Sat: Iguana Death Cult/Death Valley Girls/Wine Lips Sun: The Well/Rickshaw Billies/Pentagram/The Sword
  11. went last saturday. it was the least busy saturday that i've experienced in many years...there were no lines for anything. the card stacker guy in the hall of state is worth checking out, he had completed the ut tower and the cotton bowl, assuming he was going to start working on some sooner shit next. corny dog across from big tex was hot and delicious, birria bomb was great, stuffed wing was excellent, belgian waffle never disappoints. the drone show was cool until it turned into a ford commercial. $4 lone star still exists in the food building and the barn in front of the cotton bowl. start looking down once it gets dark and you'll find some tickets...ground scored $20 worth.

    Pink Floyd

finally finalized the sale of their catalog for $400 million. the gilmour setlists have looked alright so far, hoping for the addition of SOYCD at some point.
  13. don't know how anyone actually enjoys swimming in barton springs. the water is miserably cold even when it's 100+ outside.
  14. went to some place called carve last night at 45th and bull creek. ordered the bone in chicken fried pork chop and, sweet jesus, it was HUGE. didn't even come close to finishing, probably get 2 more meals out of it. for $26 it was a good deal. only complaint is that it was sausage gravy instead of cream gravy but it was still delicious.
  15. saw the footage of that a while back. he was definitely on his phone or something and just plowed over a dude. don't know what it is about klinghoffer but he just looks like a dude that would steal your stereo and pawn it for drugs. have never liked him.

    Sushi

never had a bad meal at kome.
  17. brooks nielsen of the growlers at the paramount last night. dig his new sound, the pedal steel was sweeeeet. he played some solo stuff then all of the chinese fountain album. the kids behind us were on acid and it was hilarious listening to their conversations between songs. the poor old volunteer ushers had a hell of a time keeping people from dancing in the aisles.
  18. accidentally saw a few minutes of sublime with rome on fremont street in vegas on saturday. imagine the crowd in vegas for a free sublime concert, it was worse than whatever you imagined.
  19. started off as a trio. early 00's to 2015 they had 5 touring musicians. 2015 to now they've been a trio.
  20. brotherton's had a chicken fried steak sandwich special last night so i gave it a try. significant drop off since the last cfs i had there. breading was not nearly as good. hate to see it.
  21. built to spill last night at empire. playing all of "there's nothing wrong with love" this tour. it's not my favorite album of theirs but, damn, it sounded good live. traces and hurt a fly also made the setlist, two of my favorites. first several times i saw them they were a 5 piece so i've always been a bit underwhelmed with their sound as a trio, but last night was really good.
