  3. guns n roses was very much a hair metal nostalgia act
  4. really weird crowd at that bon iver show...it's like people thought they were going to the symphony. have never seen people get so upset about other people enjoying themselves at a concert. also first time i've ever seen a bathroom attendant at an outdoor music venue.
  5. 12's. they made their own speakers.
  6. i have no desire to see this version of the band, but folsom field could be pretty awesome.
  7. i'm sure that book didn't make them real eager to open their wallets for him...but if they owe him then they owe him.
  8. spiritualized friday night, bon iver saturday night
  9. niiiice. was looking into the PJ vegas show but it's the same weekend as some giant edm festival in vegas so the prices were ridiculous. they could have planned that better.
  10. I went specifically to see COC and Melvins. COC was great but I wish they would play a show in Austin not opening for someone else...the last 3 times I've seen them they've been an opener. 45 minute set...worth the price of admission just to hear Albatross. Melvins always bring the energy and they're weird as fuck so I enjoy that, they've just got so many damned albums I never know half the songs on the setlist.
  11. Bought it a decade ago from an old man in Wimberley for $100. Picked up the turntable around the same time for $250 I think. Put a fair amount of time into cleaning it up and replacing some tubes and transistors. The old man wanted someone who would actually use it to listen to music and not gut it for some other project. Promised him I would give it the respect it deserves.
  12. that's the original AR tonearm with a new headshell and pickering xsv-3000 cartridge.
  13. 1962 Stromberg Carlson console. Controls were getting scratchy so I'm cleaning it today...good time for some pics. Original amp and speakers, still sounds great. Replaced the turntable with an Acoustic Research XA that fit perfectly.

    SXSW 2022

saw a lot of good bands on Friday. Meatraffle and King Hannah were the best new discoveries. difficult to overstate how good Beck was on Saturday night. went into it not expecting much...the last time I saw him was a little disappointing. half was solo acoustic and half was with a pedal steel accompanying him. he played for a long time, 25 songs over 2 hours. was thrilled that the set was heavy on songs from mutations and sea change, those are 2 of my favorites. his voice is still great and he had some good banter with the crowd. this was an all timer for me, was totally blown away. it also helped that all the badge people were late showing up so we were about 2 people from the rail the whole time. The Golden Age Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime (Korgis cover) Rowboat Say Goodbye Canceled Check Guess I'm Doing Fine I Heard That Lonesome Whistle Blow (Hank Williams cover) Pay No Mind (Snoozer) Lazy Flies Nobody's Fault But My Own Girl Dreams Hollow Log I Am the Cosmos (Chris Bell cover) Bottle of Blues Heart Is a Drum 40 Mermaids (new song) Lost Cause Asshole Fume Dead Melodies Sissyneck Country Down Debra One Foot In The Grave True Love Will Find You in the End (Daniel Johnston cover)
  20. woodlands 2001 was my first time seeing them, and the best. post 911 security was ridiculous, missed all of tricky and barely got to our seats before tool started. thought there was about to be a riot at the entrance gates.
  21. read that they're working on a live album/dvd from the 2002 lateralus tour.
  22. the sword last night at mohawk. played all the old stuff and it was great. encore was mr crowley, damn i love that song. great energy all night.
  23. just go, you may never get another chance. they're great live.
  24. have seen them several times, always good...but if you're looking for a "greatest hits" setlist you'll be disappointed.
