  1. 3 night backpacking trip in Colorado. Camped at 11,500 ft. Bitch of a hike, 3.5 miles and 3,000 vertical feet...plus the beetle kill had dead trees all across the trail. 3 lakes, great fishing in all of them.
  2. One of the best pilsners I've had in a while.

David Byrne's book, How Music Works, goes in depth on that exact question. Worth a read.
  4. Saw this sticker in Colorado last week and laughed.

    REK

saw that eric church is opening one of the floore's shows. gross. of all the people i would've guessed for an opener, he would not be on the list.

water, dish soap and a sponge is the easiest way to clean records. you don't need a fancy machine.
  9. wanted to see the sword this weekend but wtf $133 a day for this shitty festival at far out lounge? pass.

how the hell do you have time to put your entire collection into discogs? I've never even considered it a possibility.
  11. Billy Howerdel at Emo's last night. He's the songwriter/guitarist for A Perfect Circle. Love his new album, very 80's Depeche Mode/Cure sound going on. He played the entire album and it sounded really good live, his voice suits the music perfectly. The touring drummer couldn't be there and Josh Freese filled in, always a treat to watch him play. Also had Danny Lohner, formerly of NIN, on guitar. Low turnout, maybe 100 people there...which feels empty in the giant cavern of Emo's. Excellent show though
  12. welp, 100% fuck zakk wylde. out.
  13. anselmo has been playing pantera songs for a while with his band. got no problem with that but it's not right to add rex and call it pantera. would i still go? sure.
  14. the rabbit at LPG was the one thing i didn't really find amazing. it was fine, but thought everything else was a lot better.
  15. i was at hole in the wall on a friday night a couple months back and it was completely dead. thought it was a perfect example of people lamenting the loss of old austin while simultaneously not frequenting old austin establishments.
  16. abraxas is a great album, and this song seems appropriate...
  17. went to hi sign's new location on friday night. not sure where the money came from but it's fancy...and there were more people there than I ever saw at the old location.

went to the most overpriced record store i've ever seen in nola a couple weeks ago, peaches records. started browsing through the new releases and didn't find anything under $60. figured i would check out the used section...best of the doobie brothers $50, wtf? talked to some folks working at other record stores around town and the consensus seems to be that it's a drug front because ain't nobody payin those prices.

    Pink Floyd

the nick mason setlist is really good, looking forward to that one more than roger waters...but excited about both.
  20. Shaya is another option right there around the corner, personally liked it better than LPG.
  21. was there last week and had a fanstastic meal at a place i hadn't seen mentioned here, shaya. the fried chicken hummus was incredible. also really enoyed the $5 happy hour old fashioneds at barrel proof.
  22. can't believe he's started playing "everything" live. that song is truly terrible.
  23. ty segall saturday night at mohawk. he started out acoustic and the music from cheer up charlies next door was pretty much drowning him out, so that sucked. sound was much better once he brought the full band out and went electric. there were some solid moments but overall it wasn't the best ty segall show i've seen...probably didn't help that i only knew about 3 songs out of the whole set.
  24. Saw helmet during sxsw on 6th street in an empty lot in the early 00's. Don't remember exactly where it was but I remember people climbing up a chain link fence and jumping off into the pit.
