  1. For probably a year after it happened security was way more strict at concerts, at least in Austin. There was a metal detector wand at every entrance. That didn't last very long though.
  2. Ended up doing ryan mtn, barker dam, lost horse mine, and keys view sunset day 1. Loved lost horse. Day 2 we did black rock canyon/panorama loop and sunset at the cholla cactus garden. Day 3 was hidden valley and a trip down to the salton sea. Loved the park, reminded me a lot of big bend. It was crowded but once we got 5 minutes down the trail we rarely saw anyone. Will definitely be going back
  3. anyone have recommendations for hikes in joshua tree? have 3 full days there, i've read up on the popular hikes but figured some of you might have actually been there...
  4. I've thought about that but have never used it. It's it easy to use? faster than picking up a rental car in my experience. find one that has good reviews.
  5. Left north austin at 4:45, in Lot F by 6:00. Sound was loud af on silver lawn. Miss You and Midnight Rambler were great. Ronnie can still play, Keith not so much...they all look like death. Had a blast and saw one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Not a bad night and couldn't have asked for better November weather. Zero wait getting out of the lot.

    Arc Angels!

saw roger waters in 2000 and doyle bramhall ii was his lead guitarist. was impressed with his playing and looked into his other music after that show...ended up seeing the arc angels at the first acl fest in 2002. probably would have skipped that set had i never seen the roger waters tour.
  7. leave during the encore and walk faster than all the old fucks in front of you. has always worked for me.
  8. The run of show for The Rolling Stones on Saturday, November 20th is as follows: 3:00 PM - Parking Lots Open 4:30 PM - Gates Open 7:00 PM - SHOWTIME!
  9. be aware there's no free parking for this concert, all lots are paid.
  10. i have found turo to be way cheaper than traditional rental places. it's like airbnb but for cars.
  11. thought the same thing about they want my soul...2014 wtf. i think girls can tell is my favorite but gimme fiction is their best. really there's no wrong choice.

    New Music 2021

have given the new war on drugs a few spins now. it's a good album but leans pretty heavy on the springsteen/dylan vibe but without actually telling any compelling stories. the blistering guitars and psychedelic tinge are almost completely gone...and that was my favorite part of the band. they're a great live band though and i look forward to hearing these songs in a live setting. this album is slightly more boring than their previous 2 though imo.
  13. can't imagine they're ever going to top gimme fiction. no one buys records anymore and superstar bands aren't made based on the quality of their music. spoon is very well known by people who listen to "indie" music, but they're never going to be an arena band.
  14. friday: a place to bury strangers, kikagaku moyo, black angelssaturday: frankie and the witch fingerssunday: hooveriii, acid dad, christian bland and the revelators, frankie and the witch fingers met some great people and had a really good time. love that festival so much, didn't see a bad set all week.
  15. another ripper last night, the well opening for fuzz. it got weird when a girl jumped on stage and grabbed the mic between songs and started talking about some dude grabbing her ass under her skirt. then she wanted to stage dive but didnt' want anyone to touch her ass and eventually security took her off the stage. i was directly next to the soundboard and i've never seen a sound guy rock out so hard in my life, really headbanging.
  16. when someone posts an explanation to an obvious reference, does that mean they think they're the only one who understood the joke and that everyone else needs help making the connection?
  17. levitation kick off party last night. it had been too long since i'd seen the sword. god damn they were good. loud as fuck, heavy riffs, headbanging...this is what i'd been missing. the last couple of tours they hadn't been playing anything off of their first album but they embraced it last night. very good setlist. opening band was called nothing. not bad. heavy shoegaze type shit.

    microbreweries

finally made it down to meanwhile brewing. all of the beers i tried were good...the festbier collab with deschutes was the highlight. the kids though, my god the kids. it's like a playground that happens to have a brewery there.
  20. it was nice having the theater quality sound...but if you can wait until later this year they're releasing it for free on youtube.
  21. stopped at burnt bean on the way back from corpus on the thursday before this list came out. the line was not quite out the door and it was slow as shit. had the 2 meat plate, ribs were slightly better than the brisket. it was solid but wouldn't wait in that line again...can only imagine how long it will be now.
  22. saw the documentary in the theater last night...maybe 10 people in there. was a pretty good behind the scenes look at the making of the album. it didn't really get into technical details, more of an overview of all the songs and a little about how they came to be...and the events in his life that were fueling them.
  23. lots of good stuff happening next week for levitation. going to concerts wed-sun.
