  1. mike campbell gets a ton of credit (deservedly so) but i also think benmont tench is criminally underrated. good to be king, breakdown, don't come around here no more, etc wouldn't be the songs they are without his influence. same can be said for the harmonies with howie epstein, their voices blended together so perfectly. really that's what makes them such a great band, take out any individual piece and it just isn't the same. there's a magic that happens when they're all working together. i fucking love this acoustic version of king's highway so much, better than the original version i think.
  2. recently got one myself and so far the favorites have been pork chops, salmon, chuck roast, fried chicken.
  3. greatest american rock band. saw them 10+ times and it was always amazing. their acl festival performance is definitely a favorite...the band took a break because of the rain and A LOT of people left the festival. significantly improved my spot in the crowd. speaking of stevie nicks...i always liked this song more than stop draggin my heart around.
  4. Ziggy and Maple in the Christmas spirit. Time to roll in the fresh cut grass.
  5. mastodon- hushed and grim night beats- outlaw r&b war on drugs- i don't live here anymore amyl and the sniffers- comfort to me pond- 9 acid dad- take it from the dead hooveriii- water for the frogs mogwai- as the love continues still corners- the last exit st vincent- daddy's home
  6. i've had a long running theory that there aren't actually any springsteen fans, at least none that i've ever met. they only exist on the internet.

    Pink Floyd

    Niiice. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/pink-floyd-surprise-live-albums-1272350/
  8. refuse to pay more than $15 for a 4/6 pack. there are A LOT of good beers readily available below that price. pinthouse is the best in town but they can get fucked with their $20 4 packs.
  9. For probably a year after it happened security was way more strict at concerts, at least in Austin. There was a metal detector wand at every entrance. That didn't last very long though.
  10. Ended up doing ryan mtn, barker dam, lost horse mine, and keys view sunset day 1. Loved lost horse. Day 2 we did black rock canyon/panorama loop and sunset at the cholla cactus garden. Day 3 was hidden valley and a trip down to the salton sea. Loved the park, reminded me a lot of big bend. It was crowded but once we got 5 minutes down the trail we rarely saw anyone. Will definitely be going back
  11. anyone have recommendations for hikes in joshua tree? have 3 full days there, i've read up on the popular hikes but figured some of you might have actually been there...
  12. I've thought about that but have never used it. It's it easy to use? faster than picking up a rental car in my experience. find one that has good reviews.
  13. Left north austin at 4:45, in Lot F by 6:00. Sound was loud af on silver lawn. Miss You and Midnight Rambler were great. Ronnie can still play, Keith not so much...they all look like death. Had a blast and saw one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Not a bad night and couldn't have asked for better November weather. Zero wait getting out of the lot.

    Arc Angels!

saw roger waters in 2000 and doyle bramhall ii was his lead guitarist. was impressed with his playing and looked into his other music after that show...ended up seeing the arc angels at the first acl fest in 2002. probably would have skipped that set had i never seen the roger waters tour.
  15. leave during the encore and walk faster than all the old fucks in front of you. has always worked for me.
  16. The run of show for The Rolling Stones on Saturday, November 20th is as follows: 3:00 PM - Parking Lots Open 4:30 PM - Gates Open 7:00 PM - SHOWTIME!
  17. be aware there's no free parking for this concert, all lots are paid.
  18. i have found turo to be way cheaper than traditional rental places. it's like airbnb but for cars.
  19. Came across this stub today...
  20. thought the same thing about they want my soul...2014 wtf. i think girls can tell is my favorite but gimme fiction is their best. really there's no wrong choice.

    New Music 2021

have given the new war on drugs a few spins now. it's a good album but leans pretty heavy on the springsteen/dylan vibe but without actually telling any compelling stories. the blistering guitars and psychedelic tinge are almost completely gone...and that was my favorite part of the band. they're a great live band though and i look forward to hearing these songs in a live setting. this album is slightly more boring than their previous 2 though imo.
  22. can't imagine they're ever going to top gimme fiction. no one buys records anymore and superstar bands aren't made based on the quality of their music. spoon is very well known by people who listen to "indie" music, but they're never going to be an arena band.
  23. friday: a place to bury strangers, kikagaku moyo, black angelssaturday: frankie and the witch fingerssunday: hooveriii, acid dad, christian bland and the revelators, frankie and the witch fingers met some great people and had a really good time. love that festival so much, didn't see a bad set all week.
  24. another ripper last night, the well opening for fuzz. it got weird when a girl jumped on stage and grabbed the mic between songs and started talking about some dude grabbing her ass under her skirt. then she wanted to stage dive but didnt' want anyone to touch her ass and eventually security took her off the stage. i was directly next to the soundboard and i've never seen a sound guy rock out so hard in my life, really headbanging.
