  1. had never listened to hole-live through this...gave it a listen the other day based on this thread. y'all are either nuts or too tied up in nostalgia. there are decent songs but it was a struggle making it all the way through the album.
  2. it's actually surprisingly difficult to come up with an example of an artist who got sober and started writing better songs.
  3. it comes with a handmade beaded necklace, how could i pass that up?
  4. yeah i've already pre-ordered. i got wildflowers on vinyl with the box set that came out a few years ago, but excited about all the unreleased stuff. the you don't know how it feels demo is really interesting, with some lyrics from crawling back to you thrown in there.
  5. I've found that most people have strong preconceived notions about the grateful dead and their music. If you play a song and don't tell them who it is, they're surprised to learn that it's the GD. The fan base is so cult like and off putting that most people dismiss the music before they've ever heard a note. I don't blame them. Phish has the same problem except they're legitimately a terrible band, deserving of the bad rap they receive.
  6. in the case of george strait, sitting is appropriate. however i always get a kick out of the uptight assholes who complain about the people standing up and dancing in front of them. they paid for a seat just like everyone else, they can enjoy the concert however they see fit. sitting through a rock show is bullshit.
  7. stevie wonder at acl festival. guy next to me starts talking to me unsolicited and won't shut up. practically begs for a hit off the joint, finally give him one and he immediately pukes on my backpack.
  8. david lee roth is the most annoying front man of all time.
  9. san tropez is not filler...seamus is but i love it still. echoes is my favorite pf album.

    Sitting in

i believe it was 2006 when i saw the black crowes and drive by truckers at the backyard. marc ford sat in with the drive by truckers for decoration day...i remember being blown away by him and isbell trading solos. swear i used to have a recording of that somewhere...
  12. been drinking a lot more real ale lately. their beer is good and it's <$10 a 6 pack. have done curbside at their brewery a few times this summer going to/from state parks, they have a lot more variety than they used to. can't get behind this >$15 4 pack trend that's been happening.
  13. i had never considered how old he was when he died...was a little shocked that he was only 35. always assumed he was in his mid 40's.

    Sitting in

when blues traveler was recording an album in austin in the early 00's i had the unfortunate luck to see john popper sit in with a band at 5 consecutive concerts i attended. it became a joke after the first 2 times that john popper would probably sit in...and sure enough. i don't wish that on anyone.
  15. what about shitty music made by really nice people?
  16. ticketmaster now has a request refund' option when you log in to your account. says it will take up to 30 days "if eligible".
  17. i recently learned that neil young played lead guitar on i got id, which makes complete sense when listening to it.
  18. it's not even top 5 greatest pearl jam songs, but interesting video.
  19. Latest email said reservations are recommended but not required. I've enjoyed the shit out of the limited capacity at parks, they've been almost completely empty. Not too often you get an entire park to yourself. Never thought I would be the only person at Pedernales Falls or Enchanted Rock. Check reservations day before or day of, lots of people cancel.

    Vinyl

audiophiles love to find ways to justify spending money. nothing is ever good enough be it the pressing, cartridge, cables...whatever. there's absolutely no shame in picking up a $8 used copy of led zeppelin III and being perfectly happy with it. could you find a supposedly superior pressing out there and spend $50 on it? Sure. Have you gotten 42 more dollars of enjoyment out of it? Probably not, but that's for you to decide. There are audiophiles, collectors, and people who just enjoy the music for what it is. when I got into vinyl many years ago I thought I had to be all 3, over time I've learned that it really doesn't matter.

    Vinyl

i take the complete opposite approach. buy what you want, you won't be able to tell the difference in 99% of the pressings you find...or you could fool yourself into thinking you do and waste a lot of time.
  22. billy mack is a detective down in texas you know he knows just exactly what the facts is
  23. the doors have always been an average band with a few great songs. the fact that jim morrison had sex appeal and was a drunk are the only things that made them controversial. i don't know why people feel the need to call them the most overrated band of all time...there are very few people on the other side of the argument. somewhere along the line it became cool to say that jim morrison was an overrated hack and act like it's a great epiphany...probably started by dudes jealous that he was the "bad boy" on their girlfriend's wall.
