  1. I like Luther but I feel like he didn't fit their sound very well, especially live.
  2. first time i saw them was at stubb's during sxsw 2001, only time i've ever fainted during a concert. wasn't old enough to buy beers at the concert so we got loaded on a bottle of jim beam before the show. smoked a joint about halfway through the set and the next thing i know people are picking me up off the ground. learned the importance of hydration that evening. saw them many times after that, best was probably 2 nights opening for tom petty at red rocks in 2005. marc ford was on fire.
  3. check out showlistaustin or the austin chronicle unofficial event guide for day shows. in general, you shouldn't have a problem getting into any day shows.
  4. Stupid fucking site
  5. oh right, no imgur. i'll fix that.
  6. took a trip to big bend a couple weeks ago and was all excited to shoot some film...shutter stuck on the very first shot and continued sticking. so i got a bunch of cell phone pics.
  7. 2 nights at RGV, 1 night at black dike, 1 night dominguez spring trailhead, 3 nights at dominguez spring. did a lot of different hikes...pine canyon, dodson trail from juniper canyon to dodson springs, lower burro mesa, santa elena, cattail falls, window trail, fisk canyon, pt. 5168. lots of water was flowing around dominguez spring and in fisk canyon, it was very nice. wildflowers everywhere.
  8. 7 nights camping and over 50 miles hiked last week. Fantastic trip.
  9. i thought the same when i saw them at acl festival in like 2011. not sure they're gonna get any bigger than they currently are.
  10. STP opening with shine on you crazy diamond was one of the coolest ones i can remember. auditorium shores 2002.

it still happens it's just probably not music you're into. chillwave is the first thing that comes to mind.
  12. Wings for Marie/10k days should not be top 10
  13. they closed down the gravel road access a couple years ago...you used to be able to drive all the way to the trail head, now you have to start hiking from the paved road and it adds a couple of miles. the park rangers also like to act like the falls don't exist so don't expect any help from them finding the trail.
  14. oddwood is very solid. worth a visit for sure.

    Vinyl

I've got an AR XA that I dropped into a Stromberg Carlson console. It still has the original speakers and tube amp, definitely a great sound.

those snl videos are some of the most ridiculously terrible shit i've seen. like the kind of shit you would see on slavic public access.
  17. went to the first 10 years of acl fest and have no desire to go back. sxsw is my favorite week of the year but i don't really consider that a music festival in the normal sense. austin pysch fest is fun, will be interesting to see what they do this year. last year it was a bunch of individual concerts all happening on the same weekend, and i'm totally down with that.
  18. A few from last year that I liked.
  19. waited in line at that very tower records to purchase it at midnight the day it was released.
  20. built to spill at antone's last night. first time seeing them as a trio, the songs were fare more sparse than i'm accustomed to. doug martsch played some combination of rhythm and lead on most songs, for a few songs he never touched the lead part which was weird. the bass player was very talented, she filled in some of the guitar parts on bass...but i also felt like she rushed the tempo at times. good setlist, i would hurt a fly was killer. unfortunately no carry the zero. overall good, but needed more guitar.
  21. As I have found out, this is not always true. Depends on the Ranger working that entrance. Some will do it, some won't.
  22. Live stream happening tonight: https://www.hihowareyou.org/
  23. this is possibly the most awkward trying to be cool rock band i have ever seen.
