  1. I worked as a digital product manager for a biotech company for a number of years before being shitcanned along with a bunch of other folks after a merger last year. I just got an email from a lawyer from the company asking me to sign and return some documents. They are relevant to a patent application that was filed probably at the beginning of 2024, on which I along with my old manager and one of the scientists on our team are listed as inventors. The gist of the document seems to be that as an inventor i would be assigning to the company global and exclusive rights in perpetuity blah blah blah. I should talk to a lawyer about this right? And any tips on doing that (google patent lawyer in my hood?)? I'm not incredibly liquid at the moment so on the one hand I would love if this was some free money but also I'm not trying to spend a bunch in lawyers fees if this is unlikely to be worth anything. I'm not particularly mad at the company, but I'm also not trying to just give stuff away to them (and they did fucking fire me while I was on a business trip with a 6 month old at home). And while I don't want to burn bridges I also don't think I'm likely to return to their industry specifically and certainly not the niche sector of the industry where my team was most active (which is a fairly small world). This feels like the kind of thing where they should have had me sign this before giving me severance or even as the patent was filed. But the company is run by scientists moonlighting as business folks and is particularly stupid in that area. I don't believe that the patent has been granted ("30 mo US phase filing" is part of the email). Included in the email is the previous email from December where legal had tried to contact me to sign the documents, apparently unaware that I had been fired. Anyways, any informed perspective from some of our law homies here would be appreciated.
  2. Someone buy me this
  3. Maybe it’s a Speed type situation where if the market drops a certain percentage in a single day he explodes.
  4. I wish people like @realgreggym were smart enough to understand just how fucking stupid they are. But alas.

  12. He’s been almost dead for years it seems like. He really was great in almost everything. I should go rewatch The Saint.
  13. If you have a hard time understanding this and the ensuing conversation in this thread, it is not everyone else who is a dumbass.
  14. Interesting. I was googling Marcus Miller's again recently because i was cleaning up my Fender Marcus Miller and I guess he's basically got a whole line of basses with this Sire brand? Obviously that looks like a 51 p - love those, they have a great sound.
  15. A solid foundation in liberal arts would help you understand the importance of context.
  16. I believe it still exists. Very selective.
  17. As a general rule, small school is probably better than big school for liberal arts when it comes to engaging students in the way they should be engaged properly in the course of obtaining a liberal arts education. That’s based on the idea that a small school will have smaller classes and more discussion based classes, and more focus on ensuring any one student isn’t just ticking boxes to fulfill requirements at achieving a degree. Mileage will vary and 20 years ago UT did some reasonably good things to ensure that liberal arts students had to do some engaging liberal arts work in the course of completing their degree. I like liberal arts, I think it is valuable and I have specifically leveraged my liberal arts education to have a (by most standards) successful career so far. 15-20 years out from getting my actual degree I suspect that there’s a bit more value having “Texas” on the bottom of the CV than say Southwestern. But also that line probably doesn’t mean all that much anyways. Liberal arts is ultimately about critical thought, though, and it seems unlikely that you would see that practiced effectively at UATX.
  18. It’s bullshit if the first scene isn’t a guy waking up and beating wood.
  19. He walks directly into the camera as soon as the band starts playing and then immediately posts a picture of his private jet captioned “get me to God’s country”. Pearl clutching conspiracy theory you never know with Lorne he had a plane to catch lol come on dude. Sure it doesn’t matter at all but if you make a habit out of being stupid it becomes who you are.
  20. He wanted to get back to God’s country where he’s free to shout Jesus’ favorite word.
  21. I'm obviously joking around in the shag fashion a bit and am not trying to give you the AA talk where you're not specifically looking for it but I'll put on the real voice for a second and just say what I mean - every fucking alcoholic suffers from terminal uniqueness and I believe I told you that you had that problem several years back and if i didn't I apologize because you are still suffering from it now. You don't need a special cure for your special self, you need to do the things that the people who know what to do keep telling you to do. I apologize for doing the thing here where I'm giving you a lecture, I'll stop doing it now outside of threads where it is explicitly appropriate, best of luck buddy.
  22. I need to go by the shop when I’m in Austin
