  1. Actually I guess that’s relevant - I’m stupid about tax stuff, this is in a Roth though. I could sell it and buy different things with it in the Roth and not have any tax implications right?
  2. I answered before i understood the poll
  3. talk to me about ditching long held single stocks that have grown to a state where they are intolerably risky i mean really this is probably not a stock question as much as a psychology thing about attachment and loss aversion, but I dunno. I invested a fairly smallish amount in a single company early in my career and... reviewing my portfolio again the other day made me realize how much it has grown and how it represents wayyy too much of my overall wealth for a single stock. but i don't really want to sell it because that's my boy, we've been through so much. any of y'all been burned? this doesn't feel like a stonks question since i've held it for 16 years
  4. mental health stuff, above my pay grade, etc, but man for me life is a lot easier when I'm able to do a good job of setting aside things i have no control over and putting my energy into things I can change
  5. probably just walked their bar tab AMIRITE
  6. Some Reddit person saying that a bad thing is jappening, exercise due skepticism https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/s/dLp7296eG8
  7. the Pixies are like this but it's .3+.5+.1+.1 = 6
  8. Is this the thread where we've talked about Old 97s a bit? On first listen I like this one more than the first single from the new album. More old school classic rocking 97s as opposed to a Rhett song. The Old 97s are an all time favorite band of mine and I feel like i always complain about them when they come up. Today I'm going to complain about how dumb their artwork has been on every record since Fight Songs. I know they're past the GAF stage and maybe I missed my calling as an asshole A&R guy (and probably they got fucked up by asshole A&R guys earlier in their career) but goddamn have a little bit of consistency and then choose art that matches your vibe. Did Rhett's wife paint this?
  9. You may have misheard - you're probably looking for a fiduciary.
  10. Really I think Martin has done a good job of delivering a quality product at the price point where probably 90% of guitar business exists without killing the brand, the lineup, their reputation. Martin is still the standard.
  11. I'm a left handed person who plays righty, and I'm glad I don't play lefty but I also recognize that there are different kinds of left handedness. For me, if someone had handed me a guitar facing the other direction I would have probably just learned left handed, but I think for some people it's more hard wired and would put them at a disadvantage to do it backwards. Agree about the Streetmaster. I hope I'm not dogging anyone's guitar here but that one never made any sense to me. Even past just the heavily relic'd thing, I've never seen a vintage mahogany Martin that even looks like that. Here's a pretty worn one from 1940- I can kinda see where they get to the streetmaster from there, but it doesn't look the same at all, and plus it has a whole sunburst thing going on which is not part of the 15m aesthetic at all looks like something from hobby lobby
  12. I'm actually a little curious about some of the.... "not just cheap" guitars being built in China. Not really for me because I'm a corksniffing asshole who is as much a collector as a player (and so I'm almost not even interested in owning a Collings much less some offshore brand with no historical provenance), but I keep seeing Eastman, Recording King, Blueridge, etc guitars pop up and I think that they are supposed to offer high quality instruments out of China. I don't really know much (and for example, I only *think* that some of the Recording King models are maybe of a higher grade than their cheaper stuff?), but i'm curious and I know that the Eastman guitars have a pretty solid rep. I have some shoes that follow the model - these aren't cheap, they are quality craftsmanship and materials and marketed as such, but made in China so not as expensive as the American brand. Maybe doing luxury manufacturing with good QC out of China is a new trend generally.
  13. My old Martin DM has laminate back and sides and is still going at almost 30 years old. I love the big Martins but the OOO is such a nice size to play. CoTex, I’m afraid I have to inform you that your guitar is backwards
  14. *edit* wow, leaving in place because we picked the same gif and everything
  15. We’re gonna build a wall - a big, beautiful, wall - we’re gonna build a wall around Jesus’ tomb, and Jesus is going to pay for it.
