  1. Ha that just awoke the memory that When We Were Young and Story of my Life were both on Guitar Hero III. Many a drunken party with both of those songs, littered with more and more guitar string plinking noises as the night wore on.
  2. Cause you’re gen x. It charted equivalently or higher than Monkeywrench.
  3. I’m not commenting at all on complexity or musicianship because in this context I do not care, but I think that Mr Brightside and When We Were Young would easily fall into that discussion at the same tier as those Foo Fighters songs. If we’re talking about influence and cultural impact.
  4. Well I was taking some pictures for help troubleshooting why my a/b/y box sounds like shit, but it turns out I just needed to spray deoxit all over everything. So here’s some pedal innards pictures of an interesting a/b/y box, or at least interesting as far as a/b/y boxes go.
  5. I think we’re winding up here because she wants to stop spending money at Starbucks on cafe americanos and my requirements are a drip machine that I can program to brew in the morning. The additional requirement that is making this stupid (why not just get an espresso maker and I can have a $30 Mr Coffee) is that she only wants one thing on the kitchen counter and it needs to be pretty. What complicates this is I can feel myself wanting to get the best version of this thing and potentially doing down a rabbit hole, although I think this fits our needs likely. I do have a baratza encore (or whatever it’s called) that I used to grind beans, so probably this will be good enough to work for now and then gradually hook me and then I’ll fight with my wife over having additional appliances.
  6. wife has a bug about upgrading our coffee machine and is keying in on this one https://www.delonghi.com/en-us/all-in-one-coffee-espresso-maker/p/COM532M looks like some folks have commented positively about DeLonghi, but bumping for any general commentary that folks would like to share about the brand or this specific machine
  7. I would challenge that they are really contemporaries. It’s close, but Foo Fighters are much more of a gen x band and Killers are strongly millennial aligned. Purely regarding the importance and prevalence of their music in my life and nothing else, it’s easily the Killers for me. Neither band is one of “my” bands but… I remember the footos video as a kid and the foo fighters have always been around, but those first two Killers albums were Very Big Deals for people my age.
  8. I saw a bunch of people I recognized and remembered from long ago, I was not expecting to recognize and remember the lady who runs sound at The Parish. But it was her, same lady who always did it, and she was always the best.
  9. Also, show this weekend was great. Both guitars survived, we came just short of selling out the Parish (sigh… should’ve kept the guest list a bit smaller). It was bizarre just getting right back onto the bike playing with those guys again. And then seeing the exact same crowd from 15 years ago but all middle aged or near middle aged. Loved seeing 40 something year old women in their scene era shirts from 2004 that I can date precisely because we pressed that batch exactly one time. We had someone shooting photos, so I’m hoping to get some good pictures. The video fucked up but there have been some good ones.
  10. I saw that headstock and immediately remembered that weird brand of guitars I had forgotten about with the thumbs up. In retrospect, super weird headstock but pretty interesting body if you're into the whole Dano thing. I really like that band (Ratboys) - the lead guitarist plays a cool old Ibanez LP copy and is very much in my wheelhouse. She plays what i had assumed was some kind of old Danelectro, but upon further research it's actually some small danelectro style boutique builder in Iowa - Nepco. (hers is a V with humbucking lipstick pickups). Cool.

  12. i haven’t looked much into it yet and I’m sure it ends up being mostly pilot error but this is a bummer
  13. Just heard about this, he was a big booking agent in the punk/hardcore/etc scene. Bummer.
  14. Guitars made it through unscathed. I did have to remove my sister’s knitting and send it through the scanners separately.
  15. They’re finna make me run through New Vegas again
  16. Alright, teles are indestructible right? Wish me luck. I think it’ll be fine. Kids on a plane maybe not but we’ll see.
  17. Yeah for sure Patsy. there’s a weeping willow hanging over the pond near my house and I was trying to explain to my wife why I loved that tree so much, and it took me a second to realize that it was 1000% because Patsy and that song when I was a little kid. Ray Price
  18. Herc has been busy. Fuck Herc, though. On another rewatch and it’s catching me how much of a piece of shit he is the entire time.
  19. Ken Burns country doc spent some time on that, and definitely there is one intersection. But bluegrass is a format with some rules and characteristics that are rigid and differ from country music. Old-time string music is a precursor to both. anyways, I don’t care about leaning too modern so I’ll say it - Sturgill. someone said Willie, right?
  20. I had to stop midway through episode 2 (because of time) and was letting episodes stack a bit and I'm so goddamn excited to finally watch this.... i don't know where it's going but just the bits that have leaked into my feeds seem completely insane
