  1. How else are we supposed to hear about how great Sunday practice was?
  2. If it's true he has $10m/year for assistants, I doubt much of our offensive staff remains.
  3. Either way, that's a tough ooc run for a new coach to step into. I don't think Meyer is the type to be deterred by facing great teams, though, so I'd stand by my pov regardless.
  4. Well, shit. In his post he said given who we play in 2025, so I just assumed that's when the upcoming series started. Yeah, a year away isn't ideal, but I still don't think that would be a reason he wouldn't come. Pretty much any coach who comes here right now will know that first game is a tough hill to climb, and more likely hope to have us competitive by the second game in the series. Who's in 25, then? Is that the Bama series?
  5. Me: You don't miserably fail coaching college ball and expect the NFL to come calling. NFL:
  6. A guy like Meyer isn't going to hesitate because we play ohio state in 4 years. The transfer portal will basically be a free for all in 2021 and a Meyer led Texas will be beneficiaries. That gives him access to a lot of talent and multiple recruiting classes + 4 years time. Said another way, if Meyer doesn't think he can make us competitive with osu in 4 years, why would he come? A coach at his level should make a team "his" by year 4. Nowhere else that Meyer has coached have his teams not been competing at the highest level by year 4. I have zero concern this would be a reason he'd hesitate, as it just doesn't make sense given his background. Guys like Meyer will come to places like Texas because they believe that with the built in advantages and their abilities they can build a team who can compete with anyone in the country in four years.
  7. He looks like a little banana.
  8. Herman prepares his teams well when he feels his back is against the wall. Unfortunately, the dynamics of this season are such that his back is against the wall (or mirror, depending on your perspective) for the remainder of the season. I think that makes things very likely that he'll win every game until the ccg. For that game, he might feel validated and go back to crappy preparation, or it might not matter bc the opponent might just be better and more prepared. I really hope it doesn't take that long for the next loss, but it wouldn't surprise me. Fridays game is the most losable we have left, and we've had weeks to rest and prepare. I won't be surprised at all if we win, even though isu is objectively better than tcu.
  9. I'm also not sure any of it should reflect on her, anyway. If my boss makes his wife too much a part of our work, I'm pissed at my boss, not his wife. He's the one managing his responsibilities poorly.
  10. Every time I get worried that we might do something stupid and keep Herman, I read something like this and imagine it makes cdc and the bmds as angry as it makes me, and I have hope again that we won't.
  11. Clearly Urban keeps swooping in during objectively disastrous seasons for embattled coaches and singlehandedly tanking their recruiting classes. Clay Helton and Tom Herman were prepared to pull in monster classes despite shitting their pants on national tv every weekend until mean old Urban Meyer came along and existed in rumors. That bastard.
  12. He also didn't ask us to respect his decision. Which is good. Because I don't.
  13. Riley recruits well despite rumors he's leaving for the same reason that Herman can't recruit during rumors he's being replaced: until something actually happens, recruits ignore the rumors and assume the person they're talking to will continue to be the coach.
  14. I found this to be the more shocking quote from that article:
  15. Hey, I mention in my post that they can work out. How many pictures could I post of highly sought after coordinators who crash and burn as HCs? That's the point. Plenty of great coordinators are terrible HCs. Some do successfully make the transition, but I'm not sold you can predict who is who without a real audition. You shouldn't audition at a school like Texas. Schools like Texas are where you land after you've proven yourself.
  16. I was referring to Muschamp's hciw offer, but yes, we never actually ended up hiring him.
  17. Anwar is Herman's guy, right? That reply feels particularly scripted, as though he was answering a question he wanted to be asked.
  18. Muschamp is why I never want us to hire a coordinator for their first hc job again. When he was named hciw waiting with us, he was as sure a coordinator to hc hire as you could imagine. Coached great defense, his players loved him, seemed ready to make the jump. Hell, he was so in demand that Florida poached him from an in waiting position. It's hard to imagine things going worse than they have for him as a hc. I don't recall ever watching one of his teams and being remotely impressed. These days not even his defenses are worth a damn. I know there are a few coordinators who come up in our search and I want no part of it. Yes, some of them do pan out, but it's highly variable and the risk isn't worth it on their first shot. Let some other program see if they can make the jump and hire them away if they do. It will be more expensive, but if they succeed you'd have to pay them more anyway. Just let the testing happen on someone else's dime.
  19. If their season continues as it has started, they might be very willing to use this to part ways with their coach.
  20. Crazy how quickly things change. Just a couple of weeks ago most on this board were pointing out that we had a chance at Franklin and fucked up by passing. The team that is 0-4 is 100% his. Their results this year are completely on him and they're shockingly bad. In just a few weeks, he's gone from likely getting a raise from Penn State to fend off other programs, to hoping he's not on the hot seat. I don't know if I've ever seen a faster fall from grace, Herman included.
  21. Outstanding
  22. Funny thing is, Tom stole the family Friday thing from Urban. I shit you not, it was a Florida thing that I'm guessing he took to Ohio State. It's not such a shitty thing when you're winning a lot. Only seems like a waste of valuable time when the team isn't good and could use the working time.
  23. The only thing I want clarified is if it needs to be a regular season loss. I'd argue we could survive Iowa State and still have a high likelihood of losing to whoever we'd face in the CCG. If Herman makes the game, does he save his job, or does he need to win the conference? I think it should be win the conference or out. (technically I'd like him gone either way, but understand it's unlikely you fire a coach who just won the conference). The big 12 was there for the taking this year and we appear to have massively fucked it up. That plus recruiting should be enough if Tom can't win it this year.
  24. Bru McCoy recovered the onside kick that allowed USC to pull off the miracle comeback. He also scored a TD for them. If he had stuck with us, they very well may have lost that game.
