  1. I've seen a bunch of vague mention about yurcich not calling the game. Is there anything substantiated to that, or just throwing shit at the wall since we looked lackluster? I wasn't thrilled with our offense, we definitely looked out of sync, but we scored enough to win that game. The defense is where the flashing red lights went off yesterday. The offense we saw yesterday is good enough to win most games this season, and we're still down two of our best playmakers. Offensive line is still a concern, though.
  2. The pirate vs coach o is an underrated storyline for the first week back in the sec. Go bulldogs.
  3. The cake was baked?
  4. He's ass, my dude.
  5. Texags has developed a theory that Ausbon was pushing blm stuff within the team and Jimbo valiantly and voluntarily gave him the boot to put a stop to it. Oh, but bc Jimbo is such a nice guy, he let Ausbon frame it like he chose to leave instead of being booted. I shit you not, this is actually what they're claiming happened, and they're pretending the team is better off for the change.
  6. I have a friend from work who just did this. Her boyfriend is from Italy and got stuck there with his family in February. They had been waiting for things to clear up for him to come back to NY, but that was feeling unlikely so three weeks ago they both went to the UK, and last week they both went to Italy. She was super nervous about how it would actually play out once she got over there, but sounds like from London everything was pretty normal.
  7. That, and housing cost, are why Boulder proper is off the list. Reading about culture felt a lot like Seattle, and looking at real estate reminded me of looking in Austin these days.
  8. Eh, to each his own. Denver is a good enough city when it comes to activities, pro sports, etc for me if we have the itch to go into the city for a weekend. I don't want to live there, but it checks the box on jobs, airport, enough culture. Those small towns just heading into the mountains are anything but ugly IMO, but we highly value the scenery and outdoor activities close by.
  9. I don't think we'd do Denver proper for the reasons you mention. We like a lot of the surrounding areas, particularly closer to the mountains.
  10. In Colorado we're primarily looking at the broader Denver/Boulder area. In NC we've considered both Raleigh and Charlotte areas, probably more around Davidson vs Charlotte proper. The criteria list is fairly broad. We're not trying to solve for one big issue, just looking for a change of scenery, both literally and culturally, from where we're currently at. We're both from Texas and while it's a fine place to live and raise kids, we'd like to expose them to some of the rest of the country, and possibly world, and there's really nothing stopping us from doing that right now. Probably the considerations highest on our list: Ok, I think those are the top of the list. The places on our list now (in the US) are the places we've found that match most closely. Appreciate the Shenandoah recommendation, adding it to check out. Would welcome any others we should consider.
  11. Good post. I was actually coming to the board to see if there was a topic like this active at this point in 2020. The wife and I have been having a range of conversations on relocation, ranging from moving locally to an area with more land to moving out of state to moving internationally. What's hard is figuring out how much of this is the covid stir crazies vs covid highlighting things that are very real in our current setup that we'd really like to change. I suspect the truth is somewhere between those two. Right now we're most strongly considering relocating to a change of scenery in the US, with Colorado and North Carolina leading the pack, or starting to plan for an international relocation with Spain and Ireland at the top of our list. I work remotely for a company in NY, and the only real requirements there are that I work roughly ET hours and visit ~1x/month (in non covid times). The company also has an office in London, but even with that there's no reason for me to be in any of the international locations on a work visa, so figuring out visas would be a challenge. The other consideration is that our oldest kid will start kindergarten in 2021, and we'd like to make any change well before that and be set up wherever we're going to be so we avoid throwing too much change at him at once. For now, we're heading out this week to explore Colorado for a month. Partially to see how much we really like it there r extended periods of time, and partially to get the kids out of this summer heat and let them get in nature after being mostly cooped up for the last 3-4 months. Would love to chat with anyone who has lived in CO, NC, or particularly has moved abroad with young kids. We're pretty level headed, not overly spontaneous people, so it's currently low probability we pull the trigger on the more extreme options, but they are all definitely intriguing so we're going to at least run down what information we can and decide if we want to get serious about them or not.
  12. For some strange reason, they get a little extra enjoyment out of it this time around.
  13. States are going to start restricting travel if stuff like this goes on. No sense in having your state buckle down, only to get an influx of infected from a state that didn't when the shit inevitably hits the fan as a result of that mistake.
  14. This is the guy my friend in Seattle knew. Someone up thread asked if he had elevated risk, considering his age. Sounds like he not only had elevated risk, but had a delay in getting his prescribed meds. Really sad, nonetheless. Young guy, young family, all happened very fast.
  15. Go fuck yourself. She's reposting his wife's updates, including the one she shared today that her husband has died 5 days after being perfectly fine. I know the person sharing these posts quite well and she went to school with the guy in question. It's not rumor it's a fucking true sad story in all of this.
  16. I honestly don't know the guy or much about him. I just know when they first shared about it, the outlook was that he's young and not in the at risk group so no one seemed concerned he wouldn't be able to get through it with treatment at the hospital.
  17. A rumor is going around that they're going to close even grocery for two weeks. I really don't believe it, but the wife does, and it's enough to have just kicked off a nice little spat in our house about whether this rumor warrants rushing out to buy fresh produce before the stores close. Fuck you, quarantine. On a separate note, we lived in Seattle for several years and have good friends up there. One of our friends has been posting updates about a friend they know who tested positive on the 14th. He's 34, and got on a ventilator really early bc they haven't been overwhelmed yet. He died today. Fuck.
  18. Someone from my work just tested positive, and a really close friend logged off early today with chills and body aches. I work remotely full time and hadn't been in the office since 2/27, so I think it's unlikely I'm at risk from that exposure or it would've surfaced by now. The rest of the company just went full wfh this week, so they're recommending everyone quarantine for 2 weeks from last Friday. This shit just hit way too close to home.
  19. The thing that worries me from his statement is that getting parts might be the trickiest. They can ramp up production, but is he certain he can get the parts he needs to do that? Everything I've read is that those parts all come from China and are in high demand worldwide. It doesn't matter if you have production capacity without the parts. Maybe it's the most cynical side of me, but I would worry about this being a situation where you take a billion dollar order and then have production delays and can't meet the urgent need. If you say you can ramp your production quickly in a time like this, you'd better be damn sure you can actually do it.
  20. One of my wife's friends was planning to leave for a cruise today until it was cancelled. She was pissed it was cancelled. The people who wanted to go on cruises before still want to go on cruises now and they'll still want to go on cruises later because they're idiots.
  21. There are no good solutions here. No matter what we do, there will be tragic loss here. Financial loss, even mass tragic loss, can be fixed. Mass, tragic loss of life cannot be, and will most likely be accompanied by financial loss, anyway. Given the choice between the two, I'd choose the financial price.
  22. I'd be the same. Mine are both young and at home, so I don't have to make that call. If they weren't, I'd probably see them regardless of risk.
  23. Unless that family guaranteed me that they'd all been exposed only to themselves for the last 14 days and no one has symptoms in that time, I personally wouldn't do it. We've had discussions in our family about who we'd be ok seeing as time passes with this, and the list is pretty darn short. I'd basically need to know that whoever we're seeing is being equally cautious about exposure, and that the people they're exposing themselves to are all being equally cautious as well. At some point that's hard to know with any confidence. It's great if you isolate yourself from all but like 3 families, but if one of the three families has a kid that went to crowded bday party and a mall last week, you might as well have gone to those places, too. Yes, I'm on the extreme end of this and in the "I'm going to do everything in my power not to be in the % of the country that catches this" boat. I don't want the sickness, the potential long term side effects, or the risk to those around me. There's not much change to day to day life that isn't worth making for a few months to try to avoid this for me.
