Has the EU stopped buying Russian gas yet? Because all these other sanctions are likely manageable (if painful) and expected by Putin. I would think that’s not something that can turn in a dime, but that’s the economic pressure that would really hurt the most.

    Canada has stepped up.

A friend doing a Baltic cruise in a couple of months said they'd already been informed that St. Petersburg has been removed as one of the destination ports.  Not sure what it might have been replace by, if anything.

And remember what Rubio who has been nails accurate and is likely an official outlet of US intelligence - Putin is off and not the same. Dangerous times indeed.

Yea this is what has me slightly worried. Rubio’s last few tweets are not optimal.

Having gone three days without power last year I don’t need a cyber attack or EMP in 2022.

Take this for what it’s worth, but I have a family member with 20+ years in Navy intel services. He texted the family that he’d recommend getting 2 weeks of emergency supplies in case of a cyber attack against the grid. Pretty measured guy, so wanted to pass along. Scary times.

got the same from my dad who spent 35+ in special operations, most intel.

So should I bunker down in Terrell County, Menard County, Culberson County, or Dawson County? Menard has tons of pecan trees but those might get irradiated.

The Biden administration and its key European allies have reached a preliminary agreement to bar Russian companies, oligarchs and government officials who are subject to sanctions from using the SWIFT system, essentially barring them from international financial transactions — but without interfering with gas deliveries to European nations.

The agreement, referred to in general terms by German officials and confirmed by American and European diplomats, falls short of a blanket cutoff of Russia from the financial messaging system, which some officials see as a nuclear option of sorts. Such a move would have essentially severed Russia from much of the global financial system.

The targeted approach also means that Russia, at least for now, will still be able to reap revenues from its gas sales to Germany, Italy and other European powers.
