I’m on a family vacation in Colorado with my family, wife’s sisters family and mother in law.

A pine marten (sort of like a ferret) comes up on the porch.  We are all oohing and watching it run around. Kids are all jostling to see it. Stays around for 5 minutes. Everyone thinks it is cool.

I crack open the door for about 1 second to toss out some apple slices for him.  Immediate reaction from wife, MIL and SIL of “what!? Don’t do that! He might get in! He’s dangerous! Stop! What are you doing! He could attack us! Why did you do that!?” It goes on and on about how terrible feeding him was. Safety conscious water torture unending for an imagined set of ridiculous potential outcomes.

I crack. “Jesus Christ. It’s fine. Nothing happened. I was right there with my hand on the door. Nothing is getting in.” I was louder than I usually let myself be. Now everyone is mad at me for raising my voice. Wife is pissed. I’m supposed to apologize. No one feels any responsibility for the 5 minutes of berating for a non-event as the instigating factor.

    Tone. It was your tone.

So we made it to TN last night with only one minor issue.  When my SIL took over driving, she damn near killed us.

Tomorrow we're going to complete the most poorly planned "spreading of ashes" ceremony (MIL) I've ever seen.

My wife and SIL put together a slide show... for a ceremony ... outdoors, in the mountains.  When I asked where they expected to show this 28-minute masterpiece, they had no idea.

When completed, apparently all 20 or so of us are to go to a restaurant in Gatlingburg WITHOUT a reservation or call ahead.

I can't wait to see how this works out.

Gatlinburg is one of the most overcrowded, touristy death traps that ever existed. Good luck.

Based on the 80-something movies in their extensive library, here's a surefire method for success that will take you from "Lonely Guy On The Couch" to doing the hibbidy dibbidy in just six short weeks:

    1. Quit your job in the big city and return home between Halloween and Thanksgiving to some rustic setting with an idyllic name like “Angel Falls” or “Piney Acres.”

    2. Find a former high school girlfriend who has just been widowed. Expect her to have two children between the ages of 5 and 8.

    3. Bump into her at the small town’s outdoor farmers' market. Expect her to be firmly in the camp of “never going to fall in love again” when you first reconnect. Plan the platonic catch-up for coffee.

    4. Accept the platonic catch-up for coffee. Get a phone call five minutes into. Apologize that you have to leave immediately on a family emergency but ask if you can reschedule for a dinner.

    5. Meet for dinner at her house. Help male child with homework in subject he is having trouble with or female child with sports skill. Enjoy salad and pasta. Don’t ask why kids inexplicably go to bed at 7 p.m. Look at old high school yearbook after dinner, then excuse yourself before things heat up.

    6. Ghost her for a week or two. Bump into her again at the grocery store as you’re struggling to make Thanksgiving dinner.

    7. Reluctantly accept invitation to her house for Thanksgiving since it will be her family’s first since her spouse passed.

    8. Continue to express interest in male child’s academic struggles and/or female child’s athletic activity. Offer to attend school performance/game on Friday night.

    9. Finally – The Big Day…. Be available to hang Christmas lights on the roof (he always did that) on Saturday afternoon. As the sun sinks in the West and the snow begins to fall, go Christmas Tree shopping.

    10. Welcome to Bone Town, population You.

  4. if you like hookers. Stay at the Westin. The frequency of transactions occurring there Monday through Wednesday was impressive.

I second the Cellar. Merchant and Trade was a decent rooftop bar.

So, as I posted in the other Boston thread, I'll be there for just one day.  I fly in late Friday and fly out early Sunday so I'm staying at the Embassy Suites in East Boston by BOS.

I'm thinking of taking the subway to Fenway, getting on the Maverick Blue line and switching to the Green line at Gov't Center and then taking that to the Fenway stop.  Is that correct?  Then take the same way back to Gov't Center and start walking up Hanover St and having a bit to eat or drink at each place.

But, I was wanting to get some good chowdah, Scrod, and lobstah rolls.  It's gonna be a fat boy day.  And then good places to day drink on that path.

I know there's the Union Oyster House.  They were good the last time I was there, but maybe that was just gringo tourista food.  Like Mi Tierra in SA.

Just use google maps. It will tell you what lines to take. The subway is simple though.

Latest is that the cold weather ain't coming anywhere near here.

Of course last year we all laughed...

.. but this ain't last year.

However, the Farmer's Almanac forecasts a '21 style Iceageddon for January.  We will see (rubs hands).

This one?  Maybe, possibly high 40's or 50's high, but so far most of the models ain't bitin'.

I'll be back to gloat or take the Frankie Walk of Shame.  Probably to gloat, tho, honestly...

These last few years have taught me to hope for the best and expect the worst.

The latest model has the coldest anomaly off to the east.

Any reason why? I haven't read much about it, but logically my brain tells me that getting two different types of shots would be at least as, if not more, effective as only receiving one type. My only hesitancy is that I had zero side effects with Moderna so I have no concerns about the booster, but I'll be nervous going in to get Pfizer since I don't know how I'll react.

Anywho, got my 6 and 8 year olds scheduled for next week. Very exited for them, and they're super pumped as well. Soon I'll only have to worry about the 3 yo.

    Probably my OCD preventing me.

I’m about to get my flu shot and Moderna booster at the same time. Wish me luck.

How did you do? I got the flu shot just over 24 hours ago and I felt nothing. Not even soreness in my arm.

CVS offered me a booster but they only had Moderna. I am riding or dying with Pfizer.

Eh, this can go here. In laws are in town and the recycling bin is apparently the same as the trash now. They try, but they are clueless. Dirty napkin?  Yeah sure, recycle. Aluminum take out dish?  Straight to the trash. It’s like I’m playing cards with my brother’s kids here.

It’s all going to the same place. Don’t worry about it.
