If you have your own office and, generally, can avoid people, you'll be fine.  Mask up outside of your office and don't sweat it too much.  I've been back in the office since last June.  Similar situation.  Could be remote easily, but run by [cough, cough].

I put a Keurig and refrigerator in my office so I don’t have to leave. The peeing in plastic bags is a little gross but I hide them in the corner.

Were we all going to get a version of covid no matter what? Was the selling of the vaccine as a cure and end of the pandemic the way to go? Is counting cases at this point productive or should we just focus on actual illness and severity (if you’re not vaxxed you’re fucked)?

Counting cases is a proxy for how much finding out there will be from fucking around.

  3. Has anyone bought their Tesla with an Amex? The internet has a few examples of folks being successful but it doesn’t seem too probable.

On my last car purchase the BMW dealership was not going to let me put TT&L on a card because it was over $2k until I said I would not purchase the car.

CSB when I was a 3rd year med student we had this skinny dude from South America who was sick as shit and no one could figure out what was going on. No fever normal total WBC normal other labs. The intern looked closer at the differential and his eosinophils were sky high. She said I bet he’s got worms. Long story short gave him ivermectin and 2 days later he shit out a 2 foot tapeworm /csb

That’s good enough for me. Where do I get this again? Tractors Supply?

and that is the fact that as more people become vaccinated, the percentage of breakthrough infections goes up, and with 100% vaccination rate every infection would be by definition a breakthrough infection.

fuck it is sad that this simple concept is completely lost on some folks.

  6. I’m on team, this peaked Aug 11th. I have nothing to qualify this with other then the study posted pages back.

This virus seem to really do it’s own thing. Mitigation efforts seem to move case load somewhat but overall trends seem like they do what they do.

Let’s see that Frikin steep decline of positive cases please.

    Yep.

I'll finish my career in Texas, because that's where my business is.  But I can't imagine me spending my retirement years in this state.

You would be crazy to. It is entirely too humid. Retirement should be in the mountains during the summer and on the beach in the winter.

Massive reservoirs of unvaccinated people = continuing variants.

If you loved Delta, you're gonna LOVE Psi!

Not quite. A Newsweek article explained this pretty well. Thankfully the spike protein on the virus can only undergo so many changes before it becomes non functional. Of these hundred or so changes a handful might make the virus nastier, i.e., Delta.

The article notes an important difference between Covid and the Flu virus is Covid cannot mix and match genetic material between different variants so Covid should not require a "guess" on what vaccine to manufacture to maintain efficacy.

And in my expert opinion there are only so many letters in the Greek alphabet. So we have that going for us.

I personally do not. I had a breakthrough and the only reason I know is I had to get tested after a conference to go back to the office.

It is crazy how much the symptoms vary from person to person but for me it was simply a dry cough. No fever. No aches. Perhaps some fatigue. I still did cardio with no problem during my time at home.

I don’t think I’m anything special. Especially seeing some very athletic people that were struck down by this disease. I’m sure the vaccine is what helped. Not that it means anything but my reaction to shot #2 was fairly bad.

Are you an MD? That's why i was asking Sawbonz.

10 4. My bad. Enjoy Colorado.

You don't think the risks are bad for vaxxed people? Serious question. I'm also considering putting the gym on hold again.

LOL. Just so you know, 2% chance of a place crash is awful.  I would not get on that plane.  Current odds are 1 in 11M, or roughly 0.000009%.

If your chance of dying of COVID was 0.000009%, I do not think any of us would care if you were vaxxed or not.

Haha. I’m aware. It’s something I think about when flying my own plane with my current skill level. What are the odds? I keep going up.

You are right. If air travel had 2% chance of crashing people are not going. Thankfully being vaxxed I’m sure my chances of becoming a Covid fatality are very very low.

So, somone made the argument recently that 98% of people survive COVID.  I have posited the question of would you get on a plane if there was a 2% chance it would crash?  I am waiting for a response.

Math, people are not good at it.

How cheap is the flight and where is it going?

We talked about this a little bit last week.  It should probably be noted that when the UK began its increase with Delta in late May, they were only around 37% vaxed, while the US was up at ~48% when our current rise began around the 4th of July.

The UK increased their vaccination rate more rapidly than we have during the course of the spike, but initially they were about 10% behind the US when Delta began doing its thing in each country, respectively.

That is a good point. Another variable that makes drawing parallels difficult is our vaccinations are not equal across a much large geographic area. I'm sure the U.K. has areas where vaccination rates are much lower but when Texas alone is almost 3x the size U.K. the spread will behave different.

  14. @Brisketexan Let's hope we get through the burn through quicker then numbers published out of India.

    India:

Estimated start of Delta increase to peak is Feb. 28 (perhaps a few days earlier) to May 8th is 70 days.

    U.S. chart:

July 5th could be considered the beginning of the rise of Delta. 70 days takes us to Sept. 13th but we are have a much higher rate of vaccination then India. I hope we are very close to peaking and watching the Delta #'s fall of a cliff soon (I'd really like that tweet referenced earlier to be right about peak on 8/11). The U.K. peaked and fell off from high after ~32 days with 58% fully vaccinated to our 50% according to NYT.

Holy fuck. 14 beds in the whole damn county.

I am curious how ICU beds are classified in that tweet. I thought this infographic from TMC was helpful breaking out ICU status for the med center. Either way it is getting gnarly in not a good way.

It will seem like a blink, and you’ll be missing the “daddy where are youuuuu”. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Oh I know you are right. I got three solid weeks with the toddler and infant in WY over July which was amazing. The work piled up during my hiatus and I did not anticipate having to quarantine for two weeks once I got back. My only productive time has been nap time. As I write this I should probably be off Surly right now.
