My company was aiming for mid-September and just pushed it to TBD.  The return is also going to be at 50% capacity for the foreseeable future with at least 2 days remote for all positions that can do so.

I've also heard unofficially that our Austin office is identifying which positions could be WFH full-time because they'd like to get rid of some of our square footage if possible. We pay like $1.2M/year in rent.

I’m so happy I work for a small company and we only have 8 folks in the office. I’ve been working from home for two weeks now and it’s driving me crazy.

Next week I’m back in the office.  I miss my 15 minute commute routine and not being interrupted by my two year old yelling, “Daddy, where are youuuuuuuuuu???” every 5 minutes.

Just saw the 400m hurdle race on YouTube. What a letdown, everyone was making it sound like some epic neck & neck race. It wasn’t even that close, no one had a major comeback, nothing.

That usually happens when the guy running is the WR holder and he sets a new WR.

When my son tested positive late last year with almost no symptoms other than a slight headache, we asked about false positives and were told that (1) rapid testing has improved a lot over the course of all of this and (2) false positives (as opposed to false negatives) are pretty rare.

    Glad your symptoms are mild.

That is what I heard too so I probably had it. At this point just glad to be vaccinated and as far as I can tell I did not spread any virus to anyone else.

It is a huge misrepresentation of reality and obviously a political troll post. Of course there is no free lunch. 0 total emissions is likely impossible. But, 0 net emissions after carbon capture is possible. And the important thing is to improve from now. The CO2 produced in the manufacture of solar panels, even in dirty grids like China, represents a small fraction of the CO2 that would be produced if the energy produced by those panels was produced by fossil fuels. It is still a huge net decrease in CO2. And as grids get cleaner, less CO2 will be produced during manufacture. The same is true with EVs. An EV powered by the dirtiest grid, and including emissions associated with manufacture, still has less lifetime emissions than all but the most fuel efficient ICE cars. And as the grid gets cleaner, that lead increases.

The WSJ article is not a troll post (perhaps the delivery was trollish). My career has pivoted to "green" energy so I am all for increased adoption and the amount of money I see being thrown around makes me believe we are going there.

As I have come to find out there are many different shades of green as we transition to "new" energy sources. A lot of this green, zero net carbon, use clever marketing and hide some inconvenient truths.

  6. I supposedly got a breakthrough infection (Pfizer. Last shot in May). Only symptom was slight cough. Work had everyone who attended our last conference take a test. This is my 4th test to take since last year and I’ve been positive for 3 out of 4 so not sure I trust the rapid test that much.

Symptoms (cough) lasted 4 days. I never had a fever or anything else. Thankfully the rest of the family has yet to develop anything. They are 8 days in now from when I was possibly symptomatic with a cough.

edit: I should add this is the first time taking a test with an actual symptom. Other times I was tested to visit my grandmother in a nursing home. I had to push that visit back 2 months because of positive tests.

All these places are great.  Also, all of them are insane waits.

Very true and if I remember correctly none take reservations. We usually put our name in early and then go walk around until our table is ready. Fish out of Water is great for this. You can walk down the beach from Watercolor to Seaside and they will text your phone when the table is ready.

Going to Seaside next weekend for the first time in a year.  Anyone got any good restaurant or bar recs?

As others have said Great Southern is always good. One of my favorites is Fish out of Water just down the road in Watercolor. They have great outdoor seating to catch the sunset while you have dinner.

Bud & Alley's opened up their new upstairs outdoor seating and is a good place for drinks.

Another good dinner spot is George's in Alys. No views of the beach but it is good people watching.

Across HWY 98 near Rosemary is shopping district called 30Avenue. Goatfeathers is amazing for lunch.

I think anyone that's been on this god forsaken site since it's inception has their law degree.  Still pre med though...

Fuck that. Geosciences. But now I just do green stuff that doesn’t make any money but for some reason I make money.

If that’s what it boils down to, then I’m ok with that outcome. I generally expect some degree of unforeseen expenses when traveling, but just wanted to make sure I’m not leaving money on the table by eating that cost.

That’s been my experience. If I bought another ticket on another airline I never got any money back.

I’m sure there is someone somewhere who did but I’ve never seen it or had any luck.

I’d get work to pay 😉

  11. Yea travel insurance is a complete waste. Anyway most reward cards cover delayed flights over X hours and cancellations with up to $500 or so reimbursed for hotel cost per day.

If you absolutely need to get home the day you are supposed to leave then it’s on you unfortunately.

The refund for one leg never works out in your favor.

I just had an epiphany while reading about aggy's continued meltdown and damage control.

You're either a program who would freak the fuck out about any other program joining your league, or you're not.

If you're in the former camp, you're a little brother. It's as simple as that.

Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Texas...some might have programs they'd prefer not see added for recruiting purposes, but none would freak out to this point of public embarrassment about any programs joining their league.

This tantrum alone does nothing but confirm what aggy has always been. A program that is desperately trying to avoid playing big brother so that they can bluster about how they'd win if they did.

Of course, we've always known this, but I'm glad it's being confirmed very publicly and embarrassingly for all to see.

Aggy needs to make an appointment.
