  1. Oddly enough HCAD won’t let me file a protest on their website. Not sure what that means. I have been using something like pro tax the last few years with good results so maybe they already filed. Normally I am able to click the link and see documents though.

We had to pull the plug on our Rosemary Beach trip with two other families.  Our house was booked the week of May 31, but it was just too close to know whether things would be back to "normal" in Florida, i.e, beaches and restaurants open.  The only option we had for this same house was early August, but it didn't work out for all three families, so we rebooked for 2021 and the owner gave us $1,000 of the total.

So now I'm booking a hypothetical long weekend in San Francisco sometime mid to late July.  I have no idea what San Francisco will look like then, and whether any of the restaurants on my draft itinerary will be re-opened or will have shut down for good.  But it's at least giving me something to look forward to and cure the boredom.

    Fuck you, COVID-19.

Probably the right call. Rosemary and Seaside have locked their beaches down and obviously the restaurants are closed. A couple weeks ago a decent number were doing take out only but now most have closed.

Walton County initially closed public beach access only, deeded access was fine. Beginning of last week private access was closed and now there is a lawsuit fighting that. I can tell you that beach closures were not enforced unless there was a significant group. We were stopped once during the last couple weeks and asked to leave.

As far as I know Florida has canceled all rentals for the last few weeks. Not sure how that would have affected your deposit assuming cancellations are extended but 2021 will hopefully be here before we know it.

I understand the faith in an antibody test, but it is misguided. The positive predictive value of tests in other parts of the world has been poor. Testing negative may not mean that you are negative and testing positive does not mean that you positive. This means that it can give people a false sense of security. This would lead to a rapid spread of disease as people move away from social distancing.

This. I posted some twitter threads discussing this exact deal a few pages back. This visualization does a good job explaining how false positives can be a big issue at scale if only small percentage of population has been exposed:

  4. I am using the app from USAA. I am currently eligible for a 15% discount when my premium renews. Seems worth it so far.

edit: also my driving score is quite better then the wife’s. I’ve made sure she knows this multiple times because she used to complain about my driving.

Lol at Nate Silver. Still trying to be relevant after getting his pants pulled down during the 2016 election. 538 is garbage at everything, even sports. Their article a couple years ago about why Saquon Barkley would be a terrible NFL RB is a funny read.

I'm not sure how his pants were pulled down? The 538 model gave Trump an actual probability to win the election. Many other models not so much. /noCR
