  1. I did Breck the week before Xmas. Weird experience. Don’t understand the reservation system because it’s hard to believe they throttled demand given the long lift lines and full parking lots. Employees everywhere were quick to call out anyone not fully mouth/nose masked. You could choose to not share a lift with randoms. Almost no indoor mountain dining options which is good. As long as you spaced out in line, it felt safe.
  2. Two separate Denver friends have hit Vail and Breck the past two weeks. Saying it’s pretty full. When Vail Resorts says they are capping lift tix at say, 25% and the mountain has say 25% of the trails opens, then are they 100%...
  3. Necro bump - any recs for fee only financial planning fiduciaries in Austin ?
  4. Crazy scene with most the big CO counties, including Summit, going to “code red “ this week and a new “code purple” designation created. All indoor dining getting shut down. Lots of limits on outdoor stuff, meanwhile, vail resorts blasting their email base with opening day celebration messages.
  5. Well, that’s an insightful post. I formally take my cunt bomb back, but it will be a sad global shame if we have a good vaccine people are afraid to take and this shit goes longer than it has to.
  6. I looked at everything last month and went with Ring. 1) cheap monthly monitoring at $10 2) tons of hardware options 3) Amazon owns them, so no question they will continue to invest in R&D 4) crazy easy to install 4) simple yet powerful app I was willing to spend and almost did vivint, but holy shit, look at their yelp reviews. I’ve never seen customers hate a company like that.
  7. You really know plenty of people fucked up from experimental vaccines they were forced to take? I think you’re a lying anti vaxxer cunt.
  8. This is one reason I have hope. Much like Vegas has figured out away to let the casinos limp along with restrictions, skiing is a lifeblood to many economies. If they throttle ticket sales, space out the lift lines, and largely rely on outdoor food / drink setups, then that part seems acceptably safe. It’s the nightlife, etc that would get dicey, but I’m personally not interested in any of that.
  9. Yup, totally prepared for that and the epic pass has insurance baked in. Hope is a strategy in this case.
  10. I got my epic pass days reserved this morning. I was in the waiting room at 7am mt and was 30,000 in line when it went live at 8am and it took like 30 minutes to get through. But I had no problem getting dates in Breck and Park City. My buddy got “in line” late and the system said there were 110,000 ahead and he’s still sitting by his computer. Now let’s just hope the mountains don’t close.
  11. Thanks. Ring looks like the winner. Cheap monthly monitoring, and a diverse set of hardware options, plus I just don’t see amazon walking away from the hardware development. Crazy to see how hard Vivint’s customers hate them. There are reddit conspiracies that Vivint buys user names to plant rosy reviews.
  12. Bump. I just got a quote for Vivint and although the equipment is expensive, a few of the online reviews like PCMag said they were tops, but holy shit they have a 1 star Yelp rating with over 500 reviews. That’s hard to do. I’m looking for an integrated security monitoring, cameras, door bell, smart thermostat, garage door control and flood/ leak detection. I was drawn to one system for everything, but may look at piecing it together.
  13. Yes, this is the uncomfortable elephant in the room. Doctors, nurses, pilots, grocers, mechanics, pharmacists, cops, gas stations, bus drivers, retail workers, restaurant staff, etc. I am hugely sympathetic to teachers that are concerned about in class instruction, but struggle with the comparability given the absence of educational alternatives.
  14. Best route for insurance on a new house? Pursue the giants directly or go through a broker?
  15. We have a house under contract that has a detached garage. On the sellers disclosure it stated “water sometimes pools in garage after raining”, but nothing about mold. We had a mold inspector confirm garage has mold and guy can see multiple attempts to cosmetically fix sheetrock. It may have been easy for seller to play dumb before, but if we provide a state licensed mold test would seller have to disclose on a subsequent attempt to sell? Or is a detached garage with no hvac outside of what is disclosable?
  16. Totally fair. I’m slinging around thoughts that make sense in my head about staying away from the resorts and off in one the surrounding towns, but WalMarts and Whole Foods fuck up my mental analogy. I do the locals epic pass and want the Keystone/Breck flexibility to maximize the chances of thwarting a jacked up holiday season. On the COVID front, if Vail is limiting capacity and forcing social distancing, and we stay out of the lodges outside of bio breaks, and we maintain the basic safety measures, then I’m ready to ski.
  17. You should look at the epic 4 day pass. With their insurance package this year you will get a refund if you can’t book / reserve your target dates by a certain dates (I forget, maybe early December), plus Covid shutdown coverage is baked in. I’m fairly certain buying that now will be a big savings versus buying 4 day walk ups. I think today is a deadline for getting bunch of buddy passes which could subside extra tickets for whoever you go with.
  18. My family has a solid protocol. A house out in the woods is doable.
  19. Edit - typically just done small family place in town, this year seeking total change to big place in the sticks...linked cabins / lodge / main house with bunkhouse, etc.
  20. Anyone have specific recs for somewhere “between” Breck and Keystone for the holidays e.g, Frisco and Silverthorne? This year im looking to host a big place for extended family of skiers and non skiers, kids to grand parents. We’ve always stayed in town and / or on bus loop. But this year looking for covid outskirt option. Nothing opulent, but big rustic 5-7 bedroom within 30 minutes of Breck or keystone.
  21. Sling has a free 3 day trial. Like someone said, get the orange plus the sports add on.
  22. Vail is gonna Vail. Big time price discrimination move. Stock up almost double from 52 week lows and trending towards normal. My family has done 4 epic passes 4 years in a row, but wow, hanging hats on their premium properties in light of Covid uncertainties is tough.
