  1. I don't know if the bill was ever signed by the governor or if it got struck down by courts immediately, but the Louisiana legislature passed a law back in 1990 that lowered the penalty for beating a person that was desecrating an American flag to a $25 maximum fine. It was never enacted. This Texas abortion law reminds me of that but this is so much worse. Flag burning was never really an issue that mattered to anyone. It was just an attempt to make a culture wars wedge issue. Our abortion law has far reaching effects and is the law today because the Supreme Court chose not to make a ruling. Our law doesn't just minimize the penalty for interfering in the exercise of someone else's rights. It rewards and encourages it. Plus, that 1990 bill was passed by those Southern Comfort assholes we used to laugh at, the same people that almost elected David Duke. This shit is the law in Texas. It's amazing how far we've fallen. https://apnews.com/article/d0d556c5d4254d1db5984ca2266d3c9e
  2. It hasn't magically changed things for the better but I imagine it's put the brakes on some crazy, right wing shit like our abortion law. Some Trumpkin, both sider dumbshit wandered in to the CR the other day talking about the leftist agenda. The American leftist agenda is pretty much dreaming of someday having universal healthcare like the rest of the developed world, maybe someday doing something about climate change, maybe someday raising the minimum wage (still $7.25 an hour!), and legalizing weed. Otherwise, we play defense against insane Maga and Rebublican bullshit and try to slow our descent into hell. Winning the occasional upset election in a red state helps things from getting worse but you're right that it won't do wonders if you don't control everything.
  3. We're on our way to being face sucking Aliens. Holy shit.
  4. It's not impossible. Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana are redder than Texas and all have Democratic governors.
  5. Today in Texas, all abortions after about 6 weeks are prohibited with no exceptions for rape or incest. Any private citizen can sue an abortion provider or anyone that "aids or abets" an abortion.
  6. I don't know. They got hit by 3 hurricanes last year and were 10-1.
  7. Not exactly Hagler, Hearns. I feel like Woodley has thrown about 8 punches in his last 5 fights. The Manute Bol v Fridge fight was better.
  8. I'm expecting that Newsom will somehow flub the issue of the parole of Sirhan Sirhan thus triggering his recall and the installation of some right wing nut that gets less than 20% of the vote. The simulation keeps chugging along.
  9. How about this? What comes out of his own mouth is entirely consistent with the accounts of dozens of accusers. This man was President of the United States and you voted for him twice, if you were eligible. Which is worse a joke made by an anonymous message board poster or a man that went on to become President bragging about sexual assault?
  10. What happened to the old site still amazes me. It's like some dorky kid inherited an abandoned water park.
  11. I love that part. At first Al seems like he's just a ruthless criminal. As the show goes, you realize he likes and respects the entrepreneurial types like Merrick, Nutall, Ellsworth, Wu, Joanie, even Sol that take a chance and claim their own stake. He's wary of Bullock and Tolliver because they seem to want to control other people. It's why he despises Hearst.
  12. Fozzz, what the fuck is your point? The story you posted concludes that it wasn't a super spreader. At two weeks since the start of the music festival, the city is well within the timeline to see COVID symptoms develop and cases be able to be identified that can be linked to the event. Arwady said an estimated 385,000 people were there throughout the four day festival. So far, only 203 attendees have tested positive for COVID-19, or about 0.05% of people who attended.
  13. For me, this really is the one true answer. There is no character on tv or anywhere else that is as complicated and kickass as Al. In the first season, he orders Dan to murder the squarehead girl. In the end, I love the guy despite the fact that it was entirely consistent with his character.
  14. I'll do my part and say some hail merrys.
  15. A hell of a lot of veterinarians in Texas are aggy. That's about as deep as the conspiracy needs to go.
  16. One thing they should do is stop allowing a restart to every thread that they move to the CR. The 5 threads at the top of the page in DT right now are AISD back to school which is largely about Covid, Afghanistan reboot thread, Covid vaccine, Covid reboot (version 5.0), and Cuba which I'm sure is totally non-political.
  17. Might just be that the mods don't want to read all that shit and they wait for users to report posts. I imagine the DTs safe spacers flag anything remotely political if they disagree with it.
  18. What happened to TexasHammer? Wasn't that the name of the poster that had a Pepe the Frog avatar on the old site?
  19. Thanks. Donkey Cigars, the most honest current day Republican on this website. It's not a high bar but, Congratulations.
  20. He's just trying to shore up support among the base so he doesn't have to face a challenger in the primary.
