"Bryce Foster is high on A&M and some SEC schools." Hmmm... Perroni seems to have left off one of Foster's top schools and possible current leader. I wonder why?
-
Looks like he's a step down from Watson, but I'll take what we can get. Wish there was more footage of him catching passes out of the backfield, but after watching bits of their putrid offense last year, it wouldn't surprise me if their QB can't make those throws.
-
This. I watched 35 seconds, determined that it was most definitely not worth my time, and kept scrolling. The small part I did catch was just laughably bad - despite not having anything remotely worth laughing at.
-
I wonder how Mookie's going to feel about "family" when Lovie gets shitcanned (and Patterson by extension) before Illinois' bowl game what would have been Illinois' bowl game if they were eligible? I sincerely hope we stay on this kid.
-
All about context here. I'm trying to be optimistic that this one is on the up and up.I really like Mookie - seems like a smart kid with a good head on his shoulders based his quotes and (I think?) an interview I watched a while back. Plus, I think he's a special talent that would kill it here. However, the fact that it's Illinois involved here makes me think I'm being naive about this. I don't know anything about Williams, but the Beason recruitment had all of the usual signs of underhanded, shady shit and then some. As last year's flagrantly shady recruitments go, Beason and Dylan Wright are in a class by themselves. And none of that even includes the discussion on how the hell Illinois is going to keep Beason eligible, given that he's barely semi-literate of below average commitment to academics. Because that's going to take an ever more astounding amount of rule "bending."

This is basically where I'm at well. I can see his old coach pitching something along the lines of "we really, really need you here more than Texas does. And, you know, if we don't get some results soon, I might be out of a job. Not pressure you (of course), but you know how it is... Plus, we've got a bunch of your old teammates here. Can you at least open things back up and give us a little bit more of an honest, in-depth look?" Assuming said former coach is someone Mookie respects and looks up to, that might be hard to turn down. Obviously, it would be pretty slimy to put that kind of pressure on a high school kid, but CFB coaches are gonna do CFB coach things. Especially when it comes to recruiting. My real question, that we don't seem to have answer to, is whether he's still considering us. I REALLY hope he is, because I think he's a special talent. I think he could be an incredible weapon in Herman's offense. I also really hope this isn't a Marquez Beason type situation, because Mookie seems like a good kid (although good kids can be bought too). But if he commits to Illinois out of the blue in the next week or so, then we'll have a much better idea. I mean, the Beason situation was something else. That recruitment was so dirty that even aggy mostly kept their distance until they later when they got REALLY desperate for CB help. So I guess that tells you all you need to know about Illinois recruiting right now. However, if people are going to consistently start that kind of thing with Texas, I'm not sure that right now is the time to do it. Pulling that shit with Herman enough to get him pissed... well, let's just say "he's definitely not Mack Brown" when it comes to that kind of behavior and leave it at that.

Going all in on a three star OL from Alabama that Bama and Auburn don't want? Bold strategy, Cotton.
-
Ah, well. Sucks because he's a player. Hopefully, the staff gets moving on Ty Jordan ASAP. Interesting that Smith was selling Cooper on being "somebody" at Illinois as opposed to "just another player" at Texas. That would seem to imply that Lovie doesn't think he's good enough to succeed here. Personally, I think he would have torn it up at Texas. Plus, there are no "somebodies" on Illinois' football team - everyone who isn't a basketball player there is basically "just another player."
-
Is it wrong for me to hope that he stays committed so aggy either has to: a) take him; or b) pull his scholarship and deal with the associated fallout? I feel really bad for Jefferson - he's done nothing wrong aside from accepting a scholarship offer to that shit show - but it sounds like aggy is going to screw him either way. Hopefully, they do so in the most spectacularly disastrous way possible (for aggy, not Jefferson).
-
I'm sure that's what they're selling him on, but at least the offense at Purdue was innovative and and they could sell him a trendy new coach with an improved record. Lovie at Illinois is just hopeless. During Lovie's tenure, I think Illinois has gone 3-9, 2-10, and 4-8 (maybe I'm adding a year there when he wasn't around). Sure, Purdue's 2017 record wasn't amazing, but at least they could sell improvement and a cool offense. What the hell does Illinois have outside of "we'll get the ball 75% of the time or more because the rest of our team is god awful?" Never mind that their new QB will be someone who couldn't beat out AJ "53.9 completion percentage" Bush.
-
Since when does Illinois care enough about football to cheat? It would be like if Kansas randomly started buying players. Not saying that this is what's going on here (although it's pretty clearly what happened with Beason), but this is REALLY weird even with his teammates there. That place is a football dumpster fire. Always has been and likely always will be. Surely Mookie has to realize that Lovie won't even be there in a few years, right?
-
How does that work? I think the general understanding was that, since he sat out last year with a shoulder injury, it essentially counted as a RS year. Which would mean that he only used one year of eligibility, but wouldn't be able to red shirt. I'm not doubting anyone - if Machinator posted it, I'm sure it's true. I've always assumed that his circuits aren't programmed for dishonesty. But, serious - what the fuck? Did he play some last year and everyone somehow missed it?
-
There it is - "we don't wanna play no sips 'less they plays a real skedyuwul like ess-ee-see." Never mind the three directional schools they play annually. aggy is already making excuses because they know what will happen. History proves what will happen. Never play those clowns again. Period.
-
This is correct. Throughout the 76 losses in 118 tries, aggy has basically only shut up twice - and even then, it was for like a total of 8 seconds each time. The first was right after 4th and 5: The second was this: After those 8 seconds were up, it was right back to "y'all's losin y'all's whole secondary," "Radio's knee wuz day-own;" "that weren't no pers-uh-null fow-ull," and so on. If we were to play aggy, they'd go right back to losing 70% (or more) of the games with a built in excuse - "We wuz beat up from playin a tuff Ess-Ee-See sked-yul. Y'all don't play no real football in that there BDF." We should never play them again. Ever.

Wheaton's HUDL: http://www.hudl.com/v/29Pcth His game reminds me an awful lot of a certain future HOF RB from PA - Memorial that played for us a while ago. Someone said that Wheaton ran a 4.37 at a TCU camp and that film does nothing to make me doubt that number.

Best of all, it looks like the only thing he used it for was tweeting directly to recruits: As others have said, I was completely blown away when I learned that he was a real person and not someone trolling. Only aggy could produce this guy.

It's the most time honored aggy turdition.

Here's the 5 star recruits we got while Muschamp was here: 2008: none 2009: Garrett Gilbert - would've been offered by EVERYONE if it hadn't be so painfully obvious that he was a Texas lock; Mason Walters - Stanford, Michigan, USC, Notre Dame, and probably quite a few others that weren't listed 2010: Jackson Jeffcoat - EVERYONE offered; Jordan Hicks - also offered by pretty much everyone. I guess 247 has Mike Davis (LSU, Stanford, OU, Notre Dame, Florida, Nebraska, etc.), Reggie Wilson (FSU, Nebraska, ND, OU, USC, etc.), and Darius White (basically the whole country) as composite 5 stars. 2011 (since Muschamp did recruit a bunch of those guys before he left): Malcolm Brown - offered by the entire country. So, sure thing, coach. What a bunch of obscure recruits that no one else was chasing... If his statement was accurate, guys like Patrick Nwkopara (who Muschamp handpicked, IIRC) wouldn't have stayed three stars. So I'm not really sure that Looch's dumbass argument is as unassailable as he seems to think. Quite the opposite, in fact. Not that this has ever stopped him from doubling down on stupid shit with no factual basis in the past, so...

I was a big fan of this particular exchange: Props to Mr. Robinson for standing up to these ass clowns. I mean, Demas is a GREAT prospect and I'd love to have him, but he isn't on Evans' level. He just isn't. And I would maintain that assertion even if Evans was committed to aggy and Demas was committed to us even though it would be a painful admission. They're both game changers, but Evans is something special.

1) I think he did, but I'm not 100%. 2a) I'm not sure. 2b and 3) I think the biggest issue is that Herman is a HUGE fan of Beck. I get some of it - decent hands, good blocker, ran some solid routes, but I certainly don't love his game as much as Herman. Also, Herman has made it clear that he's absolutely in love with 11 personnel. I don't recall seeing any two TE sets last season, but that doesn't mean they didn't happen. Just that, if we did run them, it wasn't often. With that in mind, I think Herman was very reluctant to take Beck off the field. He's a coach who had a player he trusted implicitly who was a solid fit in the scheme he wants to run. We've seen it before with some guys who maybe didn't deserve that level of faith (see: Muschamp, Will and Gideon, Blake; Strong, Charlie and Haines, Dylan; Brown, Mack and any number of terrible OLs), so at least Herman put his faith in a guy who could play a little bit. With that in mind, I've read that a number of people behind the scenes are really enamored with Brewer - they just don't trust his blocking yet. I'm optimistic that he'll get there because we know he can catch and run. With Leitao, I thought I remembered that he had kind of the opposite issue - decent blocker with some ball issues? Maybe I'm imagining that though. Hopefully, both of the young TEs turn the corner. Otherwise, Liebrock should be able to handle all that stuff in a year or two, maybe even sooner.

Lawrence Okoye of the AAF Birmingham Iron had a rough week
campcrunk replied to Dennis Taylor's topic in Football
It'll be interesting to see how the AAF handles this. I'm kind of hoping they don't suspend him too long because I'm curious about whether this guy is ever going to develop into a football player. Seems kind doubtful at this point since he's 27 and has already been given a chance by a bunch of NFL teams. But not too many human beings can run a 4.78 forty with a 36 inch vertical at 6'6" 310 pounds. Edit: another pic of his wife just because. -
Wow. Outside of Green, are we really sure that Okie State's line is actually less talented than that? I don't know much about OSU's OL, but it seems like it would be hard to be any worse than that. Plus, it's not like starting Green at tackle ass a freshman is a recipe for success. Might work against their FCS opponents, but that seems like a line that'll get eaten alive against their opponents in the fabled "line of scrimmage" league, not to mention Clemson.

Jimbo 2019: The Only Tail Getting Busted is Candi's
campcrunk replied to closetojumping's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
Based on what I saw (again, you can only tell so much from HUDL), I would think center looks like his best shot/natural position. His best attribute is his ability to maul the guy in front of him - and he admittedly seems to be very good at that. I could see that working out better than the other two slots on the interior. -
Jimbo 2019: The Only Tail Getting Busted is Candi's
campcrunk replied to closetojumping's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
I was curious, so I watched the film as well. Obvious disclaimer: it's a highlight reel, so my ability to make conclusions is very limited. But... Center, guard, or otherwise, he looks stiff, plays high, and has heavy feet. That's problematic. He does do some good things. I like the way he finishes blocks and he's a big, strong dude. But let's not pretend that he doesn't need quite a bit of work to not be a liability at the next level. I'll wait to see who y'all hire to replace Turner, but even if it's a home run hire, the feet and stiffness are going to be problems - especially if he plays guard, where he'll have to pull sometimes. There's a reason one of the most important things Saban looks for in OL is flexibility. Good coaching can certainly help him overcome some of these issues, like pad level - but how often do you see guys without much flexibility suddenly develop it at the next level? Even highly ranked ones. He also seems to have some issues reaching the next level, which looks related the above. Basically, right now, he looks like a depth guy to me who will either get trapdoored or take up a roster slot for 4 or 5 years without much production (although a lot of that will probably depend on what kind of coaching he gets). If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. And I will have no trouble fessing up if that's the case, so feel free to bookmark this if you want. If that happens, I'll happily eat my words.
