  1. Seems reasonable.
  2. They're actually playing pretty well tonight. Bear Alexander is in the backfield all the time, Shane Lee is playing better and Tackett Curtis is a stud. Reminds me of Cushing.
  3. I doubt this fucker will ever be brought to justice. The government should suspend his passport due to the seriousness of the crime. And if he tries to fly his own plane to safety, they should make sure the pilot will face federal charges and loss of his pilots license for aiding in the flight of a fugitive. Otherwise, I figure Putin has a place for him in Russia, a gift in return for his unfailing loyalty. He will never serve a day in jail is my guess.
  4. It's over. Il a fini. I felt Pog needed to basically cut the lead in half on this stage and all Jonas did was bury him. But Pog probably wasn't completely ready for the Tour this year. With those two, it's whoever is highest in the climber category. That's going to be the winner. Barring disaster, the tour belongs to Jonas.
  5. Never Look Away A phenomenal film that's essentially based on Gerhard Richter's life and work.
  6. I grew up when Page, Clapton, Richards and Gilmore were in their prime, so they're always high on my list. But Hendrix, in my view, stands alone. Gotta give some love to Chuck Berry.
  7. Obviously didn't embalm.
  8. Ump cam sucks balls.
  9. It's not wise to bet against LSU in a CWS final. They've won 6 and only finished 2nd once. Sometimes they don't get to the finals, but when they do, they seem to have some mojo that carries them through.
  10. Bruno sucks.
  11. Strike zone is tight.
  12. Bruno has not been on lately. His last two outings were poor.
  13. That curveball was on the inside black and nasty. Good call.
  14. First class facilities at USM.
  15. Should probably leave that guy in the game.
  16. Maybe. But it sounds more like sexual harassment.
  17. There's a column in the New York Times today, written by a journalist based in Memphis, that discusses a historical perspective on police violence in Memphis, as well as violence against black males. I know the history, because I've been here since 1962, and was a History major. But most outside of Memphis do not. It's harrowing and shows a long line of intentional murders carried out by police in Memphis. When I was around 12, my dad was having a conversation with an ex-cop. I think we were at our duck club, and they were talking about how "the blacks" were taking over Memphis. Then the cop says, "I remember a day when we just carried out justice down at the Harahan bridge." I was old enough to know what he meant, and I never forgot it. Violence in policing is part of its cultural DNA. They attract males that are inclined toward violence and that hold brutish ideas about how to deal with crime.
  18. I'm always amazed by the grace and restraint I see in the African American community, especially in light of the fact that these types of stories have unfortunately become a regular part of American life. Death at the hands of the police is the 6th leading cause of death for black young men. About 100 in 100,000 black men and boys will be killed by police during their lives. That's an appalling statistic. Who wants to live in a nation where you are literally afraid you'll be killed during a traffic stop.
  19. It's pretty clear he had good reason to run. He's saying he's on the ground and trying to comply and they keep escalating. They wanted to beat the shit out of him.
  20. That's right, and now people are also saying how she handled it should be the textbook example of how things should be handled.
  21. There's a rumor that's starting to circulate here in Memphis that the victim had perhaps started dating or seeing a woman formerly involved with one of the officers. Supposedly comes from a person in the department. And since there's no evidence of any reckless driving, and victim claims he wasn't doing anything wrong in the video, it would perhaps indicate he was targeted.
  22. My wife was a tour guide at Graceland when we met. She grew up on Graceland Dr. about a mile from the mansion. Rough area these days. Sad news about Lisa Marie.
