  1. Money and power. They keep making money, with no oversight of their fraud, and no regulations they have to follow. And they live in their private fortresses, without worries about the safety of their own tap water. Meanwhile, 2024 comes around, with air pollution, unsafe drinking water, no workplace safety measures, and on and on, and the rubes who are either brainwashed by Fox or paying attention only to the Depp/Heard trial but are pissed about their family being killed by toxic "medication" no longer subject to FDA approval, votes for the GQP, while other votes are being suppressed.
  2. It's not as obvious a point as with Roe, and a lot depends on how extreme SCOTUS is in its decision, though no reason to believe they won't burn down the government. But the executive's regulatory authority is huge currently, and most safety and health safeguards would potentially be gutted. For example and off the top of my head: Anything to do with the environment, emissions, pollution Workplace safety--OSHA and Div. of Labor safe food and medicine - the FDA EEOC And on and on. It'll be a shitshow.
  3. If you do head back to Chicago, there's a Holocaust museum just outside the city in Skokie, which I think is at least as good as the one in DC.
  4. And more ruined vacation plans. I was supposed to visit some family for the first time in ages over July 4th weekend, but they tested positive Monday. And then I made alternate plans to head to the beach with a friend, but she tested positive yesterday. Everyone fucking has it now.
  5. I spent a week in Quebec City and don't speak French and had no problems. I've also been to Montreal with no issues, but one of the friends I was with on that trip is from France
  6. Montreal and/or Quebec City Also, Florida in August will be brutal. I'd wait for the fall for that one.
  7. I still can't get over the fact that Dotard's SS code name was "Mogul." I mean I know he's a delusional narcissist, but wow.
  8. Huh. Weird that the House GOP thinks the Federal Rules of Evidence on admissibility in Federal trials somehow applies to Congressional testimony. Maybe we should take them up on this and have her testify in court. Are they conceding this is a criminal matter?
  9. I have such mixed feelings about this witness. She is clearly brave, and at 25-years-old showed more courage than anyone else in trumpworld. But she's also proud of her "legislative accomplishments" on behalf of the trump WH, presumably including such things as separating brown babies from their mothers and getting ACB on the Court. She's done some vile things that should transcend politics, had one of the "political parties" not gone completely off the rails in fascism.
  10. And your point is what, exactly? Politician has different opinion today than he espoused 16 years ago News at 11.
  11. Things were more obviously at a breaking point in the 60s. We're in a Constitutional crisis right now, with a Supreme Court of political hacks and a political party that controls many state legislatures telegraphing that they'll install a GQPer into office regardless of the true election results. But we don't have violence in the streets or a situation where even the white GOPers have to worry about their kids getting getting drafted into war unless they were wealthy. Instead, we have a country brainwashed by facebook and Tucker and paying more attention to Johnny Depp/Amber Heard than rising fascism. Just look at the posts on this board, saying why are you hysterical, women can just travel to other states, they'll never go after other things. We're entertaining ourselves to death, while the fascists take over the country. This was rambling. But I don't think the issue is division of the country, so much as that most of the country is living in an alternate reality, and can't work up the enthusiasm to care about anyone or anything, so long as they can live in their 4 bedroom house in the burbs and afford cable with Fox News on it.
  12. The problem's not the Constitution. It's a piece of paper. And only has as much value as the people in charge give it. The people currently in charge are treating it like toilet paper, while being cheered on by a few and ignored by many, who are receiving a steady diet of empty rage on gas prices, transgender athletes, and drag queen story hour.
  13. It was just a ruined vacation. But people are just so stupid. We're having a surge of cases, and everyone's like well less people are dying from it. So let's spread it all over the fucking place. And who gives a fuck about the economic impact of people out from work. The same people who wanted to kill Grandma so they could eat at Applebees, are fine with Applebees not being able to find enough workers because everyone's out sick, or having to cancel their vacations. It's bizarro world.
  14. After avoiding it for 2 1/2 years, I tested positive at the beginning of June. It seems like everyone I know who hadn't gotten Omicron in the last wave has gotten whatever the latest variant is. Pretty sure I got it on the 6 hour flight that was delayed 2 hours in the plane also, in which I was about the only one in a mask. I get that it's milder now, but so stupid that we're sitting in basically the same place for hours on end, where essentially there's no way to avoid giving it to your neighbor if you're positive, and no one can be bothered to put a fucking mask on. Like that's a bridge too far. But apparently having to isolate once you're at your destination is a-okay.
  15. I've lived in NJ for years. My last job wanted me to move back to TX, and I said no, and don't regret that decision at all. I live under an hour from NYC and the beach, and within maybe 90 minutes of the mountains. Have four seasons, none of which are extreme. Legal pot. And as a woman, I have access to healthcare. I live in a town that is walkable, with good restaurants, bars, theaters, etc., public transportation, parks, and some of the best public schools in the country. Yeah, the cost of living and taxes are high, but you get what you pay for.
