  1. It's long past time we do this here.
  2. Yeah. It’s making me really antsy. Especially because my passport was actually valid for a while, but they mailed my old valid one back with holes punched in it. I only renewed this early because of a vacation in December that to get a visa my passport has to be valid 8 months after entry—it would have been valid 7 months. Ugh.
  3. By mail. The passport office near me only accepts new applications and kids’ passports and I was told that I had to apply by mail.
  4. I paid for expedited. And sent the application in late June.
  5. Not sure WTF is up with this. I know they're behind, but it's been months. About 2 weeks ago I finally got back my passport that's set to expire, with holes punched in it, and a note saying that the renewed passport will arrive in a separate mailing. Meanwhile, the State Department website says that my passport is being printed and should arrive by September 1. I have a trip planned for December. Anyone have recent experience with passport renewal, and how long should it take right now?
  6. Anyone else having trouble getting the site to load? I could only get in via tapa. It wouldn’t load on my computer in either chrome or safari.
  7. I will be there. And thank you for taking the time to express what I was too aggravated to do and Penelope got the links.
  8. To be clear, I think you're trolling and I wasn't really answering your question, as pointing out the absurdity of your question, as though the federal government could ever successfully force 100% vaccination, which is apparently your idiotic metric of success. FFS, just stay the fuck home and away from me and my loved ones if you're too fucking selfish to be vaccinated.
  9. I don't know what you mean. How do you think the federal government is going to give a "proper federal mandate" that everyone be vaccinated against Covid? Calling up the Guard and sending them to everyone's house and forcibly giving them shots at gunpoint? Nothing is 100%. But if you want to be a part of society, society needs to require that people act like it and do the bare minimum to protect each other, which includes a jab with a needle. If people still choose not to get vaccinated they can stay the fuck home and not interact with others. Like a time out for a two year old until the toddler behaves.
  10. There's no way to vaccinate everyone. But we can make the choice to be unvaccinated as painful as possible for those who choose it in order to protect the rest of us. No restaurants, no air travel, no theaters, no public transportation, no taking your own car to the shop to be fixed, no working in any public facing job, no working in any non-public facing job if you have any coworkers (i.e. you can only work at home by yourself), no entering stores.
  11. In the NYC area it was the inland areas that were worst hit by Ida. Not from the tropical storm winds. But 8-10 inches of rain fell in a couple of hours. You're not going to be safe from climate change just by moving inland.
  12. nevermind.
  13. Monday is the deadline for healthcare workers. I saw a protest of Healthcare workers saying medical and religious freedom on 1st Ave. Fuck all of them. I am done. You don't want to get vaccinated, get another fucking job. You exercising your freedom is hurting others. At this point I just feel bad for the other healthcare workers who have been vaccinated, and now may have to deal with short staffing due to healthcare worker selfish antivaxxers on top of the antivaxxers in the ICU.
  14. Without information on how widely available the vaccines are in those countries and when vaccines became widely available the data doesn’t mean much
  15. He can't. Because it proves him wrong. NYC publishes its vaccination rates, including by race. And the "data" lmao posted is a lie.
  16. womp. womp.
  17. Because the Republican party doesn't care about anything but power and money. But they can get their rubes to rationalize anything and everything by pretending to care about the unborn and acting sanctimonious.
  18. I would love to see the Venn diagram of people on a Texas message board bitching about Newsom eating at French Laundry who said one damn thing about Cruz going to Cancun.
  19. Also the vaccine may improve or get rid of any long haul symptoms people who had Covid were continuing to suffer from. https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/vaccines-long-covid
  20. It's not like the group who feels compelled to wear body armor when at the deli buying lunch, but can't be arsed to put a piece of cloth over their face for those same 5 minutes, really give a fuck about protecting anyone or anything but their egos.
  21. So how does trump giving a speech to the Moonies on 9/11 fit in? This is one hell of a conspiracy theory.

    9/11

I'm conflicted. I was working in the airline industry and was living just outside of NYC on 9/11 and knew some of the people killed that day. Thankfully, no close family or friends. But I see how we've used that day since that time and am even more disturbed looking back. I saw someone somewhere (twitter?) comparing 9/11 to the Reichstag Fire, not the day itself, but the way those in power have used an attack on the country to seize power, and that feels like a good comparison at this point.
  23. Or you could just convince the "super valuable employee" who's also somehow simultaneously too fucking stupid to get vaccinated to get tested weekly. If your "super valuable employee" won't even consent to testing to protect 102 other people maybe, just maybe, he or she isn't "super valuable."
