  1. Yeah, they should have impeached Wednesday night immediately after the EC stuff. I can sort of understand waiting a day, especially since they and their staffs had been terrorized on Wednesday. It was the wrong decision, but I can get it. But there is no excuse for impeachment not to have started last week.
  2. His father was also business partners with Paul Manafort. There's obviously not enough information to conclude anything right now, but I hope this is being investigated by the FBI. I'm certainly not saying he orchestrated this, but he could have been one of the officers involved in letting the rioters in, taking selfies, etc.
  3. Yes. There's video of the whole thing. I posted it yesterday. At the very beginning of the video, with a crowd of white rioters screaming at him, he shoves one of them. He then runs up some stairs, and then away from the Senate chamber, while radioing his location, so that they are met by Capitol police away from the chamber. He deserves the Medal of Freedom. The real one.
  4. NSIAP. He basically saved the republic here. He shoved one of the white rioters, and got them all to follow him, away from the Senate chamber.
  5. Maybe we should pretend that people lost to Covid are actually lost twitter followers. Then they'd actually give a fuck.
  6. FWIW, his father was business partners with Paul Manafort in the 1980s. https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Howard_S_Liebengood
  7. Anecdotally, the most batshit stuff I've seen on facebook from any of my "friends" is from my cousin's son, mid-20s, recently left the Marines. His page is filled with vile hatred. I unfriended him a while ago, but it popped back into my feed recently when some other family members tried to put some correct facts out there, and that ended in everyone basically disowning each other, and the "friends" in his echo chamber all reinforcing how wronged he was by his mean family.
  8. This is a must read, although long, from a professor who studies authoritarianism. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/09/magazine/trump-coup.html?referringSource=articleShare&fbclid=IwAR3m8eT9G59X-xdG5d_OSxvIWqwtD9WpFZXrF28OCk-FnGUeKTjc9vuvdLg
  9. He does a short show trial, so that the real trial and evidence doesn't put all his members on the spot after 1/20 when Schumer becomes majority leader.
  10. No one is being silenced. Trump, Cruz, and Romney could all call a press conference right this second. They can issue statements on their own websites. They can talk to the media, OAN, or whoever. Trump literally has a press office in his house. You seem to want the government to force private entitles to print specific speech you like. And to be clear, what you like right now is seditious speech.
  11. Any laws are only as strong as the people wielding them. We can make as many changes to the pardon power or the Constitution as we want, but if the people in charge of governing our country don't believe in the rule of law it doesn't matter. If the pardon power were different, trump would just find a different way to abuse it or something else to abuse. There is no legal reform that would stop him.
  12. Why is Graham at the airport? None of these fucksticks should be leaving DC right now.
  13. Impeachment also furthers that goal. Not that I have any faith in the GOP in the Senate, but drop this on their lap. Make them take a position. And because they're invertebrates, maybe if they actually have to take a position, they'll lean on Pence to invoke the 25th or Trump to resign.
  14. If trump did this, wouldn't it be an admission of guilt? Couldn't this be used against his co-conspirators (Cruz, Hawley, Don Jr., etc.) who helped him incite the coup attempt?
  15. One thing he's not wrong about.
  16. Bingo. And while I'd rather he resign than be 25th-ed, with the threat of impeachment and having to put GOP Senators on the record, McConnell could also pressure Pence, whose political career is over anyway now, to invoke the 25th. While impeachment is better than the 25th, at least with the 25th Trump wouldn't have access to the nukes or be able to command the military.
  17. Yeah. You're right. Although he'd have to preside over the hearing in the Senate.
  18. When do Ossoff and Warnock get sworn in? McConnell will still (I think) be majority leader until Jan. 20, but you'd possibly be forcing Pence to vote on impeachment, and maybe get some of the GOP senators or Pence to fucking do something about the 25th other than cowardly, anonymous leaks that it's "being considered."
  19. They need to impeach him today. No more giving the GOP time to make stories about how Antifa really did this, or what the fuck ever. Make clear that every second trump controls the military and the nukes he is a threat to the republic. And get the vote done this afternoon. Let the GOP senators who know how bad this is go on record that they support trump anyway, or force them to call for either trump's resignation or invocation of the 25th. The GOP senators need be put on the spot. This minute.
  20. No one. There's only 99 senators---Ossoff hasn't been seated yet.
