  1. This. What he didn’t say is how many conversations he’s had with his president.
  2. So basically the NIL contract will become the new collegiate free agency control mechanism.
  3. Hey Nate, why do you hang out at Surly? Me: For commentary such as this.
  4. Interesting development...no mention of CU or ASU. Haven't seen UDub mentioned w/o Oregon until now:
  5. I like the Double T scoreboard because we've had a Double T scoreboard in the south ez my entire life, so I'm glad they are going to keep that bit of history going, albeit with a new and modern version. I remember my first game at age 7 just starting at it and thinking it was the coolest scoreboard in the world. I agree with you on the video boards.
  6. Bell towers. It's kind of our thing.
  7. Can't hit the QB while in a passing posture??? What the holy fuck is this shit?
  8. The ACC isn't going to make it to 2036. It's not going to make it to 2026. The Big12 is in a stronger position now than previously thought, and if 4-6 PAC10 schools do end up defecting, the dominos are going to start to fall and the ACC GoR will go the way of the dodo. Of course every conference is saying what they are saying right now because there's a lot of legal two-stepping they have to do in this dance. But the ACC House of Cards is going to come down soon.
  9. Now do Lincoln NE, Manhattan KS, Lawrence KS, Iowa City, Ames, Waco, College Station, Tucson, Eugene, Columbia MO, Fayettville, the State of Mississippi, the State of Alabama, Knoxville, whatever podunk town in west Virginia that VA Tech is in. Lubbock is has more flight options and more convenient airport-to-campus than ANY of those towns.
  10. Take Texas Tech as another example. Our football team has sucked hind-tit for over a decade now and we still will have 50,000+ attend our games in our 65,000 capacity stadium even when we suck. And a good percentage of that 50,000-60,000 is coming from hundreds of miles away...Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc. And this is during a time period where our football program is the worse it has been since the early 80's. We have better attendance than other programs (see Baylor) who have been way more successful lately. Basketball is selling out a 15,000 seat arena. Baseball is sold out and even on a down year we made the playoffs. We have a student enrollment of 40,000 and a huge spread out, fanatical alumni base. But we are being compared with the bottom feeders in FBS. I don't get it.
  11. Not to cloak room this thread, but does anyone else feel we (fans, schools, etc) are nothing but the puppets at the end of the strings being pulled by two mega, mega media conglomerates? If Standard Oil and Ma Bell were considered dangerous monopolies that had to be broken up for the common good, what does that make ESPN/Disney and Fox? ALL of this realignment stuff is being completely manipulated by these two companies. I’m getting the whole industrial media complex vibe and I don’t see it being a good thing in the end.
  12. I assumed they would go to the B1G if this scenario played out.
  13. So if it plays out like that, does the Big12, after getting the four corner schools, then go after Louisville and NC State? I think it would make sense.
  14. I disagree. I think CU and AZ are ready to jump yesterday, and ASU to a somewhat lesser degree. They are desperate to find solid ground somewhere, and see jumping to the Big12 as helping to create that solid ground. Big12, likewise, can’t say no if these schools ask to join. It’s mutually beneficial to all parties.
  15. Dump Oregon St., Wake Forest, Rutgers, Cal (because they simply don't care about athletics anymore), and Houston because Fuck Houston.
  16. Tell me you completely missed the point without telling me you completely missed the point. We don’t need an NFL 2.0 or NFL lite. CFB has a rabid fan base because it is a unique product. Well, it was a unique product. It’s already gone down this road with the Jumbotrons and commercials and canned music, trying too hard to emulate the “entertainment” of pro stadiums. This will be the last nail in the coffin for its unique brand.
  17. But what would motivate the haves from doing that? It would, in their opinion, dilute the amount of the pie they would receive. It’s all about money now. I see the Big 2 limiting this to 32-40 teams max. It’s all about greed at this point. I love your scenario above, but the realist in me says it won’t happen. The college football I love is dead and has been replaced with NFL light.
  18. I’m going to go a different route and give her 45 days.
  19. Joel thinks everyone wants to see only the elites play, like an NFL light. They think we are all going to gravitate to the product they force on us. I think they’ve forgotten what makes CFB fandom unique. I think excluding 2/3 -3/4 of the college football fan bases out there is short-sided and risky. If they limit this to 32 or so teams, I think they will end up destroying the value of the product.
  20. Fucking this. A BS urban legend in the same category as “you automatically get all A’s for the semester if your roommate dies.” Conferences don’t have a private school in its membership to avoid FOIA. Total myth Can we once and for all dismiss this BS line of thinking? Please?
  21. It's not personal, Sonny. It's business.
  22. If true that it is six schools and not four, that tells me the rumors that UO and UW were not, and are not, going to be considered by BIG are accurate, and they see no other option. Also if true, this is the absolute best scenario the current Big 12 (sans UT and OU) could have possibly dreamt of, and never would have imagined a year ago happening.
