  1. Dear Longhorns: I don't necessarily care one way or another how the rest of your season goes, except for your games against Tech obviously, but for the love of all that is holy, please humiliate the agroids this Sunday. Please. If they even play the game close, they will be even more insufferable to be around. Thanks in advance.
  2. Is it just me or do the replacement hires seem really late in coming this year? Or am I just not paying attention? Seems a number have been fired/quit, but I haven't heard much about the new hires.
  3. I don't see why anyone would go to an NFL stadium wearing the opposing teams' gear any more in this day and age: https://twitter.com/barstoolsports/status/1202820680045285376?s=20 What am I doing wrong in regards to embedding a tweet into the post?
  4. Fuck Baylor.
  5. We crossed paths. We know many of the same people I suspect I won’t even begin to describe my 1995 Cotton Bowl experience.
  6. Spike viewed the bowl game as a treat for his players, with all the fanfare and gifts and stuff. Free trip to somewhere exotic like Shreveport or Birmingham [/sarcasm]. What Spike failed to consider is how much money Tech fans spent on going to these bowl games just to see his coaching staff not take it that seriously. I loved Spike, and I had the chance as a student to interact with him quite a bit (he wasn't a fan when we rolled out the smoke machines to replace the old high school painted busters). But man I never liked his approach to bowl games. He won two in his entire tenure...the All-American Bowl vs. Duke (coached by Spurrier) and the Copper Bowl vs. Air Force.
  7. The first season he went up against the mighty juggernaut East Carolina Pirates in the much coveted mattress mac galleryfurniture.com bowl in Houston. Tech was a heavy favorite as I recall. We had driven back to Texas from a white Christmas in the New Mexico mountains the night of the game, and I think arrived at my folks place sometime around half-time. East Carolina just whooped Tech up and down the field. I don't think the game was as close as the final score of 40-27, but maybe it was. All I know is my dad and I were disgusted because this was supposed to be an easy win for Tech, and we weren't that enamored with what we saw on the field that first season to begin with. My dad was cussing about "dink and dunk this shit and dink and dunk that shit and lose to fucking east fucking carolina." It was my new bride's and my first Christmas as a lawfully wedded couple. Good times. We followed it up the next year by investing in a bowl trip to San Antonio to watch the mighty Tech offense score a whopping 16 points to Iowa, who scored 19, in yet another game in which Tech was favored to win. Yep, those first two years under Leach weren't too bueno. And sadly, still better than pretty much all but 2 or 3 of the past 10 years.
  8. Goddamit, Goose! Put the fucking flag away and find Jester before he shoots our ass!
  9. An actual, real, and true update: I have not been contacted in regards to any of the current vacancies.
  10. They have to pay for those stadium bonds and Jimbo's salary somehow. Can't make no money on them road trips.
  11. Well said. Pigmeat & some others like him have this notion that Wells inherited ample talent from KK and should have just been able to plug and play and win 7-8 games right out of the gate. Statistically speaking, that's not going to happen most of the time, but especially not when you've inherited decent, but not great, starters with absolutely zero depth to speak of behind them. Tag on a few injuries in key spots, and it's a recipe for a disastrous season.
  12. Back up in North Texas.
  13. Well great. We reset the receiver.
  14. It’s like someone blowed up the satellite. No direct tv currently at my house in North Texas. Not even the DVR. Anyone else experiencing the same?
  15. There's a good chance that the mono has caused some dehydration and seriously depleted his electrolytes, potassium, and other vitamin levels over time. The potassium levels alone could be working against him. I would get some electrolyte replacement drinks going (vitamin water zero, pedialyte, MiO flavor enhancer that specifically has electrolytes, etc.) and also get him taking some Vitamin D, C, B12, & A supplements with meals. Also, get him to eat more foods with higher potassium contents (don't do supplements, because you don't want to do too much potassium...just try and get it through nutrition alone). Here's a list of high potassium, nutritious foods: https://www.webmd.com/diet/foods-rich-in-potassium#1
  16. I don't know those people.
  17. Dammit, I knew that sounded wrong. All arkansas schools look the same to me.
  18. Never can be said enough. +rep.
  19. People who saw what he did that year at Arkansas State knew he was the coach to get. I know at the time UNLV hired him I posted somewhere that I really wish we could have grabbed him. Others in my circle had said the same thing. People who were paying attention knew he was the hot commodity to get. As soon as Tubbs announced he was leaving for Memphis, I think every Tech fan's first response was, "Go get Beard." It seemed it was a no-brainer to everyone at that time. Heck i remember some Tech fans during the season, before Tubbs left, that Beard would be the ideal next coach.
  20. And it helps him on the recruiting trail because he can negate the negative recruiting tactics of other coaches telling the recruits that Campbell won't be there much longer.
  21. Hocutt deserves ample criticism for the KK hire. He rolled the dice on someone that everyone was pot banging to be hired because he was the OC for Johnny F'n Football. It was a risk to hire KK, but at the time he was trending up. No one then realized that KK just wasn't ready to run an entire program, recruiting and all. Hocutt probably knew better than to roll the dice on KK that early, but if he hadn't and KK had gone on to success at another school, he would have been run out of Lubbock on a rail. The Tech fan base, myself included, kind of painted Hocutt into a corner on that hire because Tuberville was such a polarizing failure of a hire (not Hocutt's hire). KK was a roll of the dice, and unfortunately we crapped out on that roll. So I give Hocutt a pass on that hire for all the reasons I state above. I think it's too early to make a summary judgement on Wells & his staff. Yes, there were some head scratching moments this season, but I wasn't at the practices, in the film room, or on the sidelines during the game. And the defense, that was already pretty thin depth-wise, was decimated by injuries. So I am going to give him and his staff the benefit of the doubt for this season. But he needs to show real improvement next year before we decide Hocutt has gone 0-2 on football head coaching hires at Tech. Now, Beard was a no-brainer. Even the worst AD in America would have known to go after Beard as soon as Tubbs left for Memphis, regardless if Beard just signed a big contract at another school two weeks prior. The credit I give to Hocutt for the Beard hire was to not be resigned to the fact he was just hired by UNLV and to go after him anyway. But I don't give him credit for the Beard hire in as far as he could see talent there that no one else could. Hell, we all knew Beard was the guy to get. I wanted him before Tubbs left and UNLV hired him...so did many others. It was the no-brainer hire of all no-brainer hires.
  22. I stopped my sub at RRS years ago. Twitter basically started providing the same amount of "inside information", if not more, for free. Once Robert Gio left to go work for Tech, that site went downhill faster than a snowball in the alps.
  23. Oh I remember. I’m 46. First football hero was Roger Staubach. I’ve been a Cowboys fan since as long as I can remember.
