I have an A300 in wood. Love it.

Never heard of Ganzo before this thread. Not a huge knife guy, just carried a random folder in my pocket for utility's sake. Most recently I had a Cold Steel Pro Lite Tanto that I lost over the course of a drunken Saturday. Replaced it with a G720. Its a lot heavier and a little bigger, but man it came sharp as a razor out of the box and it is really well made. For $20ish, I was impressed enough to buy some other Ganzo models just because.

I vote for Charissa Thompson on loan from Fox.

This play stood out to me as well. It was great, complementary team defense. Locke actually was the one who made the tackle IMO, you can see him about to get him around the waist in the pic. But he was only able to catch up because Boyd and Jones were containing Hurd to the sideline. If Locke was alone, Hurd turns up field earlier and roasts him. If its just Boyd I think Hurd gets the corner. It's possible Jones could have done this on his own just because he occasionally takes a perfect angle and has very good closing speed. The way it unfolded in real time though was fun to watch. Especially since Hurd is an ugly douchebag type player.

This is some baseball level nerd shit. I don't know how it works but when you beat #6 and they stay put while you drop 8 spots, that is clearly retarded. 538 should hire the S&P+ guy, he'd fit right in.

I hated the BCS. It was a lame half measure. The current playoff is better than the BCS but still inadequate. The very first year convinced me of this. TCU was absolutely in the conversation with the 4 teams that made it and they were actually 6th in the standings behind Baylor because of a road head to head coin flip type game. I'd be ok with 16, but I think 8 is the way to go. First, establish some scheduling minimums for the P5 schools to qualify for an automatic berth. Something like schools must play 9 conference games and at least 11 FBS games before conference champs get an automatic berth. This ends the SEC scheduling charade or it forces them to contend for limited committee selected at large slots. ACC only plays 8 conference games as well. So you might only have 3 automatic bids the first few years if those conferences don't meet the requirements, but eventually they would fall in line. I think this (having 5/8 being automatic slots) also incentivizes ND to join a P5 conference which I think would be good overall. Then use the committee to fill the at large slots and to seed the teams. Make the first round of the playoff home games for top 4 seeds, use the current bowl rotation for the last 3 games. I am not in favor of a set aside for the best G5 school. Most years this would screw a more deserving team and the G5 team would get blasted in a tune-up game by the 1 seed. UCF will finish top 8 this year if they stay undefeated so the G5 problem works itself out if the G5 team is good enough and the playoff field is expanded.

It seems like the trend is leave and get paid. I think you have to grow up wanting to be a Longhorn to stay for 4 years and delay a huge payday. It probably helps if you come from money and a two parent home as well, not sure what LJH's situation there is. He's going to crush it in the NFL. He reminds me of Travis Kelce. Long freak athlete who can line up anywhere. Able to bully defenders or make them miss.
-
LJH should be a first round pick. Scouts might be sleeping on him now but if he declares he's guaranteed a combine invite because he is a freak athlete with crazy measurables. The scouts will eventually catch up. He reminds me of Travis Kelce. Don't let his whiteness fool you, Kelce is a freak athlete as well and KC uses him as more of a slot than a traditional hand on the ground tight end. CJ could leave early and get picked for sure. I don't think he will go first round but it would not shock me if he continues to play great and gets screen time in a conference championship and bowl game.

His performance today was awesome. He played great last year as a freshman in this game, but this was obviously even more impressive. Gus Johnson said something on the call yesterday like 'This kid was born to be a Texas quarterback' and they showed some home video footage of Sam as a 2-3 year old throwing a football at his dad saying 'I'm Chris Simms!' as his off camera mom narrated. They also showed the black and white twitter pick of Sam doing the horns up as a 4 year old that I am sure everyone has seen. It was amazing and his life has kind of been like a movie script to this point except the movie would have him with a different name (Colt McCoy sounds right). Anyway. He outplayed Murray in a game that non-partisan fans would likely name one of the greatest versions of a contest held 113 times. He is a Longhorn legend at this point and he's the guy for the next two of these. He is tough. He is a leader. He flashes at times, the throw to CJ on the first drive on the sidelines while not perfect, was an NFL type of throw in that it thrown perfectly secure in that CJ was going to get it or it was going to be incomplete. A very low risk/high reward type of throw. The ball to Tre for his TD was pretty nice too. And then more than anything, and the difference between the two QBs, was no turnovers. Again. Him setting the record for most passed without a pick by a UT QB...I've always been a fan but even I'll have to admit that Sam breaking and extending that record is...improbable. I can't wait to see how much better he gets.

Herman's post-game locker room speech was on YouTube for a while but has since been pulled. Anyone see it or have another link? One of the quotes from it that I saw was "...those motherfuckers have to get on a bus and drive back to Norman, Oklahoma..."
-
The official is standing over this happening. Looking at the video its hard to see how there was no ejection, let alone a flag. The ref is just waving his arms while he is elbow deep into our guy. I knew sooners loved cock but this is next level.
-
I am surprised at all the Sam hate. He is clearly improved from last year and there is no reason to think he won't continue to improve. Also, he's running the offense that's being called...if you listen to Herman...he believes all the shit he says at his pressers. He means it when he says stuff like the offense's job is to outscore the other team by at least a point. You can see this in the play calling. It gets conservative when we have a two possession lead. Sam had a good game last year against OU and in the post game I loved it when he said he was looking forward to the next 3 years. I think Herman plays the long game...its the only way I can rationalize things like Porter getting snaps in contested games. I think we've been running a little simple because he thought they could get away with that and still beat people while keeping things off tape for as long as possible. Sam definitely needs to get his deep ball more accurate but he's come along way in terms of not turning the ball over and with Orlando's defenses, most of the time that is going to be good enough to win. I'm not sure Sam ever loses this job outside of injury. Herman clearly loves him and someone's going to have to utterly kill it in practice to unseat him as a returning junior with two letters.

On offense I think we need to fine tune what we tried to do against K State. 7/8 drives were 10+ plays and 4+ minutes, only one 3 and out. Army nearly won by keeping OU's offense off the field. Run Ingram early and often, get the middle opened up and let CJ and LJH work OU's weakest unit. OU has not played anyone good. Baylor and Army look like .500 teams to me and those are their best two opponents. Hopefully we can leverage this for some early gains by just being physical. Murray is deadly when he has time. We need to hit him, early and often. I am hoping Foster can go because if I am Orlando I have him spy/blitz Murray on passing downs. Foster is going to be a punishing NFL player. I don't see how a tiny Murray could stand up to repeated Fosterings. GJ is a great option here as well but I feel like Foster is the best choice for Ewok hunting detail.
-
I think KY is decent and they match up well on offene against an aggie defense that is light on talent and depth. Bama, Georgia, KY...only undefeated teams that have beaten everyone they played by 10. Not that one is like the other two...but its an interesting stat. It definitely looks like Georgia@KY will decide the SEC East.
-
I don't know. I mean I think Davis is better but he already starts. I'd like to see the Boyd snaps go to a guy with 2-3 years left who has upside.
-
I'm not a GM but I think I have a pretty good handle on how it works. The fifth year option for the team for first round picks is there for the team's benefit, not the players. My point was that the NFL player's union sucks. They signed a terrible CBA that is costing them billions of dollars over the life of the deal.
-
It's maddening how badly Herman has managed skill position snaps on offense. He's gotten better at it, generally speaking the right WRs get the most snaps...but man he still sucks at divvying up RB snaps. Ingram is much better than all the rest. He should get every snap if the game is in question unless there is a workload/injury concern. Tre is solid but he just doesn't run as well as Ingram. Young, at this point in the season looking at his body of work, should not get snaps unless the game is decided. Porter should not get any more snaps until Senior day and then only if his parents are there. NFI if we'll ever see CJ's brother or TC again.
-
I'm pretty sick of reading and hearing about Boyd being our best corner. He isn't very good, certainly not great. He gets beaten badly multiple times a game and is always good for at least one drive extending penalty per game. I think Davis is better overall and I would also be in favor of giving a younger guy with more upside Boyd reps. K State went to Boyd's side intentionally, after they switched QBs and introduced the forward pass to their offense. It nearly won them the game.
-
The way they were calling the game, very one sided and nothing at all on K State, I was completely surprised they did not get him for taunting after the sack/safety. I think the TV guy might have been right, if Nelson and 23 don't rip right out of there, he might have gotten rung up.
-
I'd guess K State is generally under penalized relative to the rest of the Big 12 just because it seems like something you'd associate with a coach like Snyder. But fuck 10-0 in penalties? That does not happen, and if it does the game was called poorly. It can't happen, it threatens the integrity of the game result. We all know Big 12 refs are shit but there needs to be some kind of follow up to this. And honestly, I felt like most of the time we got flagged it was earned, minus the unsportsmanlike on Zach. But they just refused to call anything on K State. So many holds my god. Also 71 is a piece of shit, he was getting away with murder. There was a play where he and Gary Johnson were going at it and I guess he felt like Gary had his hands in his face for too long after the whistle and he started throwing punches trying to get separation from. Right in front of a fucking official and nothing. It was very inconsistently officiated. I was really surprised Charles O did not get taunting called when he stood over their QB and leaned down at him after the sack/safety. Thank god we won. I'd be at just below Ok St criminally fixed needed an FBI investigation game levels of outrage. edit: On the Wheeler defensive holding on a successful run by their QB...I was initially very triggered because of, again, the fucking Ok St heist where that happend...but when I saw the replay...a good ref wouldnt have flagged it because it had zero impact on the play and was so far away from the ball, but I mean to me at least, it looked like Wheeler knocked down an eligible receiver even if the RB might have oversold the impact. From a rules perspective, I don't know if it should have been tacked on to the run or not.

The whole reason I mentioned Penn State 2016 up thread was to point out that there are some other non Ohio State teams at the top of the Big 10 that are good/relevant. Its hindsight, but again 2016 Ohio State got destroyed by Clemson. It was a pretty bad look, the only worse playoff appearance was probably Michigan State getting mudholed by Bama. So, in retrospect, was Penn State worse than that? Do they get shut out by Clemson and lose by 31? I don't think so, but who knows.
-
2016 Penn State was pretty good. They had an argument, IMO, to get into the Playoff ahead of Ohio State. Ohio State got destroyed by Clemson that year.

I like the Fox coverage, especially Klatt. I really used to hate Neuheisel because of Colorado and then his goddamn kid beating us and all. He's on the Dan Patrick show a couple of times a year and its true what they say, time heals all wounds. I like him now. He tells good stories and seems cool. He had a funny anecdote about Harbaugh beating him: I am pretty down on ESPN over the past few years, just across the board.

To me the NFL player's union is just objectively terrible relative to the other unions. To the point where it seems like the owners run it. Why did they agree to slotted contracts based on draft round and position? 'Oh well it only applies to rookies and they have not put in their dues'. But then you peel the onion back and...the teams have a 5th year option for every 1st round player which is a hedge against having to pay them market value for another year when if a guy is good enough to pull that 5th year trigger the team has almost certainly already gotten the player for 4 years at below market value. Then if he's really good but they don't want him long term, bang franchise tag. Year 7 coming up? Still don't want to get married, bang franchise tag again! Player gets hurt...team cuts bait and now the player is gonna get on a vet minimum shit deal with someone willing to gamble on him and a positional need. They got so incredibly screwed in the last CBA with league...and they keep re-electing the same idiot who agreed to that deal.
