  1. Waiting for July 14th run offs. Taking nominations in the thread if you want to suggest somebody. Wendy has already been nominated and seems to fit the parameters well.
  2. They have to have cameras, right?
  3. It’s sad when we can’t even look at a local shooting without national political talking points that are completely irrelevant dominating the conversation. People get so programmed by politics that they can’t have a conversation about anything. I feel like this happens to me all the time now: “Weather seems nice today.” “See, global warming is a hoax!”
  4. A 3000 sqft house in Tomball where they park their f350 before their 80 mile round trip commute to an office building.
  5. Correct. We are planning on having the teachers rotate instead of the kids in some cases though.
  6. Don’t take my opinion on who undecideds are as me predicting trump will win. I think a good amount of those people will go back to him but he’s going to need more than that to make up what is possibly a 10 point deficit nationwide right now.
  7. In aisd, staff that can complete their job remotely must be given the option to do so if they have serious risk factors. There is a special “covid leave” for people that can’t complete their job duties remotely. Need to reread the doc but it’s 66% pay I think. For teachers, they can be matched with students that are doing virtual learning only. About 90% of my staff wants to be back on campus.
  8. That depends on the campus and teacher. I had UT professors asking to use some of our material in their lessons because they liked it so much. I have other teachers that can’t figure out how to plug their computer in.
  9. We have a ton of kids that live with grandparents or other high risk people. I don’t have stats, but the number would shock most people. Especially true in the Hispanic and Asian communities, which make up over 60% of our district.
  10. Let’s say a middle school has 1200 students and 800 of them are going to school in person. That would mean 400 on A days and 400 on B days. If you have 10 people with temp scanners, they would do 40 each. Could easily be done in a typical 20 minute arrival period.
  11. Point 2 is a big concern for us. We are looking at creating groups of 6-8 kids that come to school two days a week. These groups will take weeks to create because every service imaginable has to take place in the classroom now. For example, kids that need reading intervention would usually go to the specialist at a specific time with kids from other classes that are on the same level. We can’t mix them up now. Kids have to be grouped so that reading intervention can be provided by a teacher who travels from class to class. Now do that x5 other things and it quickly becomes a Rubik’s cube. We will likely ask parents to commit to a program for the first semester before switching. Legally they can probably switch but it will definitely mess things up.
  12. I would guess that a lot of the undecideds are typically right leaning folks that don’t like trump and can’t figure out what to do. Hate trump but “liberalism is a mental disorder”. I worry about a lot of those people going back to trump because some wedge issue that comes up in the month before the election. Wouldn’t be surprised for Dotard to start going off on abortion to get those people back on board.
  13. Elastic waist jorts? That’s bad, even for aggy.
  14. Damn straight. There has been a lot of talk about trying to get economically disadvantaged kids back in the building if their parents are ok with it. It’s just hard when 60% of the students in the district have that label and we are supposed to be dealing with fewer students at a time. Many schools are more than 90% economically disadvantaged. As with most things in life that suck...they suck way more when you are poor.
  15. Kids will likely go to school 1-2 days a week in person, the rest will be done online. Could be exceptions for special education students. TEA has promised more guidance/expectations on Tuesday so we will see what that brings. A few things to consider: Many parents have reached out to me saying the want to remain 100% virtual because they do not feel safe sending their kid back yet. This will be an option and Abbott reconfirmed that today (kinda). Districts are screwed no matter which route they go with this. Go back full time and it’s “omg they’re killing everyone in a worldwide pandemic”. Stay virtual and it’s “parents have to go to work, online sucks, etc, etc”. Kids aren’t too impacted by covid (usually) but the adults who work with them damn sure can be. I employ at least a dozen people with risk factors that make this dangerous for them. Going to have to figure it out with each of them on an individual basis.
  16. Somebody won one of the jackpots for over 400 million this week so it reset. I would guess that sales are down though.
  17. I voted to change buildings and statues but not the song. I’m actually not against it but think there needs to be a larger discussion had by the university community. Without that, people will just perceive this a the liberals taking things away and not do any soul searching. If the larger discussion is had and people want to keep the song then I’m fine with that too.
  18. Know one of the be more pacific owners through friends. They recently opened another in Houston, which turned out to be terrible timing. I’ll try to see if they are both closing or if they had to choose between the two.
  19. Agree. Not every piece of shit or mentally ill person is a Karen. A Karen wants to speak to the manager or call the cops. Maybe even let the HOA know that your trash can was out 7 minutes early.
  20. I only came here to see how many negs OP had. Haven’t read a word and I’m sure I missed nothing I couldn’t have got off OAN for myself.
  21. I’m not going to derail another thread with this so one post only. 46% of the tax revenue collected for AISD goes to other districts through recapture. As long as that happens, tax payers in Austin are proper fucked. AISD pays for about 1/3 of the recapture total for the entire state.
  22. It’s going to be expensive as a motherfucker. That’s the price we pay for not starting on this and major road projects 30 years ago. The available land will only go down and the price go up if we try to do this after another 2 million people move here. Transportation is the number one critical issue facing Austin over the next 10 years. I hope we get it right, and I include major road improvements in this as well. I grew up here and hate that my personal version of old Austin is gone. I loved the early 90s when I was a kid. But the reality is that we are a big city now and getting bigger by the day. The current Austin clusterfuck of the worst traffic for a city our size in the nation was created by people trying to hold onto the past. Time to start thinking about what Austin in 2040 will look like. For starters, it will have 4 million people in the area.
