  1. Sounds like you are leaving right around then but Lone Star Park starts live racing in mid-April.
  2. I don’t have specific knowledge of any collectable but like to hustle to make extra money on the side. What is something easy to get into just to get some experience with this? I have bought and sold on eBay in the past but it was just stuff I wanted to get rid of, not something I was trying to flip. Any advice you have would be helpful.
  3. 10 years ago - solid republican voter 8 years ago - luke warm republican voter 4 years ago - luke warm Democrat voter Now - Democrat donor and solid voter who will be an insufferable prick to republicans when this state goes blue. Fuck those vote suppressing mother fuckers and the bullshit they pull to try to retain power at the expense of the least advantaged in society. Unlike republicans, Dems won’t have to play those games because when this state goes blue, it’s never going back.
  4. I’ll gladly vote for her if she is the dem nominee. If you like her policies, I highly suggest you register and vote for the eventual dem nominee as well. They will have much more in common with her than a cruel con man like Trump.
  5. I have so much respect for Beto and what it is doing. He could easily be sitting at home or making a shitload at a corporate gig. Buts he’s been out campaigning for other people, even if they have little shot at winning. He’s done more to turn Texas blue than anybody since the republicans took over.
  6. I’ve read through the thread and thought about it. I moved here as an 8 year old in 1991 so I have seen most of the changes and I have two answers. 1. The late 90s tech boom because it populated the suburbs. Austin wasn’t really a city where many people lived in the burbs until around that time. At the beginning of that decade, in 1990, around 5,000 people lived in cedar park. Now there are 80,000 there with an additional 130,000 in round rock. It was the first time where the greater Austin area began to stretch across large swaths of land. 2. 2009 The freak out over the 2008 collapse was in the beginning stages of recovery and people started moving to Austin from all over with good paying jobs. They growth was always there but this time it was different. Many were coming from outside of Texas and with a big budget. They wanted to live in the city and didn’t mind paying a ton or living in a high rise condo. This is when the culture of the city changed as much as the skyline. I never cared much about money growing up because I could do everything that I wanted to with my middle class parents footing the modest bill. Rich or middle class didn’t matter too much because we all hung out at the same places. Hell, half of what I did was completely free. You never knew if the guy next to you wearing jorts and an obscure band shirt was homeless or a millionaire. Money matters a lot in Austin now. It’s expensive to live in the parts of the city that make Austin cool. Most events and the better restaurants are expensive as well. I still hang out at places like workhorse and draughthouse that have a local vibe and won’t break the bank, but that’s not most people’s version of Austin anymore. Im not too bitter about the changes because it’s been a constant since I’ve moved here. There was never a time that Austin wasn’t growing. I think the poster that said Austin is in it’s weird pre-teen awkward phase is pretty correct. There is a lot of almost anxiety about what Austin is and what it will become.
  7. Would love to hear prosecutors defend evidence collected by that cop in their upcoming trials.
  8. There was a great article that came out in the Atlantic a few years ago about “the death of expertise”. We now distrust people that have devoted their life to a field of study to instead listen to a political hack with a catchy phrase.
  9. Bernie madoff talk no going away 2020
  10. Same thing with fake complaints on regular uber rides. People just scamming for free rides and uber says no less than south Austin’s mom.
  11. CNN currently interviewing people from different candidates asking them what they will do if their candidate isn’t the eventual nominee. 100% said vote for the democrat no matter what.
  12. You’re a Bernie bro and I’m a warren guy. Assuming both of our candidates are viable, is there no opportunity for us to try to recruit the other to our side? From the description it sounds like only supporters of non-viable candidates can be recruited. Which is dumb. If if Grandpa from the corn farm comes in as a mild biden supporter because he’s heard of him and biden is at 17% he’s stuck with him and never had an opportunity to learn more about other candidates that aren’t blubbering idiots.
  13. For the first time my sportsbook now has Bernie as the favorite to win the overall nomination. iowa -175 nevada -150 New Hampshire -300
  14. Yep. I was raised as a Republican but turned into a Democrat in my 30s. Everything I was fed as a kid was bullshit. Enough years in the real world and I figured it out.
  15. Y’all tell me why Eliz getting beat by double digits is no big deal and not a sign of things to come in November.
  16. Gonna have to check truck stop bathroom stall walls for info like that.
  17. My sportsbook has Bernie as the favorite for Iowa/Nevada, and a heavy favorite for New Hampshire. Biden is a heavy favorite for South Carolina. Iowa odds: Bernie Sanders -140 Joe Biden +200 Pete Buttigieg +400 Elizabeth Warren +500 Nevada odds: Bernie Sanders -140 Joe Biden +120 Elizabeth Warren +1000 New Hampshire: Bernie Sanders -200 Joe Biden +250 Pete Buttigieg +700 Elizabeth Warren +900
  18. In my comparison I was using a rent price for both. However, it does seem easier to buy here. I bought 10 years ago and am in a much better financial position because of it. It would have taken me significantly longer to buy in nyc even with the theoretical car savings.
  19. Sure but I live in a nice house in a cul de sac in the burbs that many would scoff at compared to living in nyc. Different strokes....
  20. Let’s say the last listing I posted is fake, which I can believe. Use this one and keep all the numbers the same. It still seems like I personally would come out ahead. I can see how other people, especially those with kids, would come out behind. https://www.trulia.com/p/ny/brooklyn/139-17th-st-2-brooklyn-ny-11215--2441129821
  21. Car payment for 2 cars: 600 Insurance: 100 Gas: 150 Oil changes/maintenance average: 50 Other: news tires, car washes, registration average 50 Total 950 I pay cash for cars but estimate that’s about what I would pay per month for the cost of the car over the lifetime.
  22. A lot of your “extras” have to do with kids. I don’t have any and that will stay the same in the future. I could see child related expenses being much more in NYC but that doesn’t apply to me.
