  1. More like the free space in bingo. Everyone gets him.
  2. “pick at least guess who is currently under 40“ I’ll play, just want to clarify this part though.
  3. It’s about what everyone on here expected. She’s in the foulest of foul moods. BIL and FIL went to work (by choice) so it’s just me, her, wife and SIL. Of course, SIL continues to be great and calls her out on her shitty attitude. Nothing over the top, just incredibly rude to anybody that tries to talk to her. SIL told her at 9:30 this morning that she’s packing up and leaving if it continues. That is actually a threat because MIL like having everybody over. Somehow she hasn’t made the connection that people would come over much more often if she acted like a human. Probably because people keep coming back. I actually think she has a mood disorder or something. Just a quick story on the rib roast ordeal from yesterday to give you a picture. SIL asks her husband when he is going to start cooking the 3 rib roasts. From across the house MIL rudely yells that he won’t be cooking any of them because she didn’t like the way his turned out last year. He doesn’t care then leaves the kitchen to watch sports. An hour later MIL comes back and yells at him that if he doesn’t start cooking his roast (1 of the 3) that it won’t be ready in time. We all look at each other like WTF. SIL proceeds to give it to MIL about her absurdity. He cooks his one roast, she cooks her two. As he’s cutting his up, she makes all types of noises and proclaims his to be raw and that nobody will eat that. 5 minutes later his is gone and only MIL and one other old lady are eating the shoe leather ones. His was actually slightly over cooked unintentionally but still ok. Well this pissed MIL off even more because she’s had mostly an uncontested reign of all things, including the food, until last year. Later she got sent to bed pissed off. I don’t really have any hope that it will get better, but it’s much more bearable when all the people in their 30s stick together.
  4. Yeah, I’m sure that will be next Christmas. I actually think it will be an ongoing battle but it will be better now that we are all on the same page. One on one battles were impossible and demoralizing.
  5. Today is a day that will live in infamy. 5 brave people stood up to a reign of terror than has lasted well over 30 years. The 3 children of MIL decided that no more shit will be taken and the the outlandish rudeness will stop and two were supported by spouses. It did not come without many battles throughout the day but she was thwarted at every turn. The final battle came around the great fire pit when SIL told her she should return to her dwelling (go to bed) if she is going to be negative and rude. MIL desperately looked for support, which she did not find, before heading to her nest. For over an hour now the victorious children have celebrated the win and regaled each other with battle stories from the day, something that has never happened before. The battle of breakfast, the battle of prime rib, the aggression of cleaning before guests, the counter insurgence of child rearing criticism, and finally the battle of fire pit. We may be lean, but for the first time we are unified and organized. The MIL has been put on notice, with a clear directive, that she shall ruin no more holidays. The long game has won. Let freedom ring. On a more serious note, she was really told repeatedly that she is ruining everyone’s Christmas with her negativity and lashing out. Sounds like everybody has felt the same way for a long time and we finally got organized in supporting each other in putting a stop to it. Hallelujah.
  6. I will celebrate it’s demise when the day comes.
  7. BIL left to go visit trashy gf instead of bringing her here. Missed out on a damn good opportunity there. People are coming over at 4:00. He will be late....and drunk. MIL will be pissed about both. SILs husband cooked the rib roast last year and it was great. MIL is refusing to let him do it again this year because it wasn’t burned to her tasting. SIL saves the day again and he is cooking 1 of the 3. I’ll be first in line for the good shit. We have enough fire wood for the next 5 years. FIL just left to buy fire wood. Whatever, he probably just wanted a break.
  8. When is the Hobby building going? I hate that piece of shit.
  9. Things are still pretty calm around here. This afternoon all of the in-laws friends come over. Somebody draw me a bingo board of all the shit boomer trumpkins like to talk about. Muslims, gays, obummer, etc. The gift from MIL this year was bed sheets. No lecture. Strange but I’ll call it a win. BIL went to the grocery store this morning to do his Christmas shopping and came back smelling like booze. Still under control though. SIL did the cooking this morning and did a great job. Of course MIL who over salts everything complained that it was too salty (it wasn’t at all). SIL checks her with a quickness. She is the unexpected hero of the trip so far.
  10. That would have actually worked because she doesn’t put names on the gifts and we have to switch them around after we open them most years.
  11. It’s not my battle to fight with the MIL on this stuff. She won’t fuck with me directly anymore because she knows I will give it right back. That’s why I get passive aggressive presents instead. It’s somewhat nice being able to sit back and watch the show without being involved in it too much. Think of me as a narrator. Edit: there were some pretty good stories before she learned that I posted on hornfans over 10 years ago.
  12. We made it to church on time as did SIL and her fam. MIL there 1 hour and 15 minutes early. Sisters kids were hooligans and they had to leave 25 mins into the service. Probably over a hundred kids there and they were the only two with issues but that wasn’t a surprise. Showed up at the house and BIL was hammered and sweating bullets. Under control for now though. SIL is doing a great job of keeping MIL in check. It will turn into fighting by tomorrow for sure. This thing always starts off slow. A couple of things to look for tomorrow. Does BIL bring a trashy girl over? What do I get from MIL for Christmas. I got a dustpan two years ago along with a lecture that mine was too flimsy. For those of you offering advice: take it to the Dr. fucking Phil thread. This is for bitching. Also, I’m winning the long game. The crazier they act, the less I have to come here. Down from about 15 days a year to 5.
  13. Do you eat at 10p and go to bed at 1030p? Or does your dishwasher take 3 hours to complete the cycle? She runs it on some crazy long cycle that takes forever. Well over an hour. I have to be up at 5:30 for work so I go to bed early.
  14. Well, we have an earlier than expected update. I went to load up the car and one tire is dead flat. Tried putting air in it but it was too punctured to be safe....on goes the spare. Now I’m sitting at discount for the next hour plus. No big deal, it’s still early and we are going to be at the in-laws for days. Wrong. Church starts at 4:00 today. This, of course, means nothing to me. However, it is insanely important to controlling MIL who has lied about the start time in the past to have us there almost two hours early so that she can have her favorite seat. Wife will expect me to drive home, change into church clothes, and drive like a bat out of hell to make it to church on time in another city. Does she care about church? Hell no. But go back to my first post. It’s all about appeasing MIL at all costs. If we somehow don’t make it we will get passive aggressive comments and attitude for days. Will at least make for better material on here.
  15. Just now catching up on this thread. My wife also will never run the dishwasher unless somebody is home and awake. I can’t even get her to run it after dinner some nights because “it won’t be finished by the time we go to bed”.
  16. Heading to the in-laws for three days tomorrow morning. We used to go thanksgiving and Christmas but I have managed to reduce it down. It’s always a minor disaster with some really obnoxious people. Let’s meet the cast of characters so that the play by play will be easier later. Wife: seeing her family is very important to her. She will also start bitching about how we are surrounded by lunatics within the first 30 minutes. When it’s time for another visit she will have somehow forgotten. She tries to appease MIL, which is an impossible task. Only sibling worth a shit because she left and never went back. MIL: Very domineering personality. She’s really weird and also very controlling so we always get roped into bizarre things. She’s very judgmental towards everyone, but nobody else is allowed to be the same way toward a family member or she will snap at you. She is a very picky eater but controls the menu. We are having a rib roast but she will not touch anything unless it’s burned to shit. Instead of having all of our food ruined (again) I’m getting FIL to cut her off an end piece to turn into smoldering shoe leather. 100% chance of a story about her coming up. FIL: really nice guy and a good cook of traditional food but has a really narrow window of what he deems acceptable. Really just a narrow world view that’s getting worse by the year, thanks largely to Fox News. He does his best to keep the peace but will not get in the way of MIL at any cost. 5% chance of a story BIL: He is MIL’s perfect angel who can do no wrong. She talks shit about all her friends kids and adores him. BIL is in his 30s and lives at home. He’s not a bad guy, just makes poor life choices and is an overall waste of potential because he is so coddled. He has never had to face any real world consequences. I will find out about yet another thing they are doing for him in the next few days. They don’t trust him to do anything on his own because he will screw it up...but he never has the opportunity to learn. He drinks too much and has made a scene before. He also likes to invite trashy women who he meets at bars over for Christmas dinner. They also make a scene sometimes. He was immediately pulled aside and told “she’s not the one” by MIL last year. 70% chance of a story Wildcard: any chick BIL brings over. 100% of a story if one comes. Last years girl brought her daughter who was calling BIL “daddy”. Several near heart attacks in the room. SIL: was really batshit crazy in her earlier years and put the family through hell. Never did anything to better herself but latched on to an upper middle class guy. Hasn’t worked a day in at least 10 years, even before she had kids. The family pretends that nothing bad ever happened with her. She has the same personality as MIL and they butt heads a lot. She will have kids with her that she won’t parent. 50% chance of a story. 100% chance of yelling and bitching about stuff. Family friends that come over: all old, all trumpkins that have weird obsessions. 100% chance of bitching about gays, Muslims, scammers, Hollywood, liberals, etc. Prediction: first update will be MIL freaking out about something nonsensical and driving everybody crazy by 6:00 tomorrow evening.
  17. Didn’t realize LLCs were such a touchy subject. I don’t really have a dog in this fight, but I have read many stories on mr landlord and bigger pockets where judges allowed an individual to be sued in addition to the llc, especially if it was owned by one person. Here is an excerpt from an article that touches on this: The purpose of owning the property in an LLC is to protect the LLC owners from personal liability. But you have to think about the possible ramifications if that owner personally oversees repairs or other work on the property and later someone is hurt as a result of that work. In our litigious society, you’d expect the plaintiff’s attorney to sue the LLC, the contractor that did the work and the person who hired the contractor and oversaw the work. In a nutshell, we prefer small property owners buy better liability insurance, with a higher limit, to protect them (and their assets) in case of an accident at the property. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/07/31/how-determine-whether-put-rental-income-property-into-an-llc/%3foutputType=amp
  18. It’s amazing how fragile some white people are when it comes to talking about race and the advantages that the average white person has because of race/history. It’s avoidance at first, deflection next, then finally wanting to “deal with it” so that we can move on like it’s taking spankings from a father. You can see it right here in this thread in 2019. There is no moving on. This is who we are as a nation and we will be dealing with it forever. There is no single conversation, scholarship, or book to read that fixes this. What will help is constant awareness of the past and how it shapes the present. Constant vigilance to interrupt the racism that still persists today, and fight for a better future for ALL kids. If you care, you will have to fight through all denials, deflections, whataboutisms, and claims that you are making everything about race. You also have to know that when you die this isn’t a problem that will be resolved and that it’s a struggle that will go on forever. For those of you that seem to be really uncomfortable with these conversations or want to avoid them, I hope you will ask yourself why that is.
  19. I don’t have any rental properties but have done a fair amount of reading as I would like to one day. Everything I have read says that an llc isn’t really going to help you if sued. I have also read that it’s harder to get a loan if you wish to buy more properties via that route. I’m sure the mortgage guys can confirm or refute that.
  20. “Daddy, why are there two women kissing?” Adults who are in romantic relationships often kiss. Boom. Problem solved.
  21. If this was just disagreeing on political issues, it would be easy. This is complete brain rot that has taken over many of our loved ones. They have become hateful, terrible people that are far from silent about their beliefs. These people cannot have a conversation for more than 3 minutes without some talk radio jab about Hillary or some other nonsense. Not every trump voter is like this. I still get along with my parents and they voted for him.
  22. Terrorist incident making international news in country with strict gun laws: 2 victims dead. Terrorist incidents in US with much less strict gun laws: Las Vegas: 58 dead orlando: 49 dead virgina tech: 32 dead sandy hook: 27 dead sutherland springs: 26 dead Three of those five in the last three years. But let’s get on the internet and make snide jokes about knife bans to show that gun control doesn’t work. Meanwhile their murder rate is about 0.90 and ours is about 4.90....
