  1. In FY2019, AISD anticipates the district will submit $669.6 million to the state in recapture funds. This amount is expected to increase by $115 million in FY2020, as a result of a projected increase in the district’s taxable property value and tax collection and the recalculation of the state funding formulas. From FY2002 to FY2019, AISD will have paid the state of Texas more than $3.7 billion in recapture payments.
  2. The senate education committee voted and fast tracked their bill today. Full senate will vote tomorrow. Both the senate and house bills would be an improvement. Just hoping the final version doesn’t become worthlessly watered down. Just as a reminder, AISD pays the same amount into recapture as it does for all salaries in the district combined. It’s roughly 46% of the budget....just gone. Desperate for this mess to get fixed.
  3. It’s not just the 12 seats, it’s the fact that a lot were in the burbs. Plenty of pubs see the writing on the wall if they don’t work on property taxes and education. Unfortunately you are right about Patrick and things won’t really change until his is gone.
  4. Looks like the senate education committee is going to vote on the education bill tomorrow morning. The house is trying to tie their property tax relief bill to the education bill they already passed. I can honestly say that this has been a really good session for the house. I completely expect the senate to fuck things up.
  5. I’ve been busy at work and have lost track of the education bill that went to the senate. I assume no news means they are quietly butchering it.
  6. Harassing strangers for wearing what they want. Classy.
  7. The commercial with him standing next to a 50s pickup was right in the Texas GOP voters wheelhouse. Yearning for yesteryear with a good ole boy who “gets it”. Just got done clearing some brush when the camera rolled up. Put an R next to his name and it’s game over. I wish MJ would run against him instead of Cornyn. Bad ass military vet vs a giant puss.
  8. Was just about to post this. Their lunch tacos are solid. Much better breakfast options elsewhere.
  9. I completely agree. The only thing I might change is to add some media appearances in order to drive people to his local events. You have to have some star power to get people in large numbers.
  10. I’ve paid for the real stuff. It sucks.
  11. I don’t have a lot of money to give to politics so I’ve started only giving to local Texas races where my money would make a difference. Suburban Texas house races are a great place to start for people that want to get into this and feel like they are making an impact. Bucy, a Democrat, won my district which is made up of western round rock and cedar park. He’s been in the legislature fighting hard for education in his first term. The house could look very different in a few cycles if we get more people like him in there.
  12. That’s a nice way of saying student consequences are confidential and I don’t want to lose my job, especially if that student was in special education. I have parents hitting me up all the time to know what ever happened to this or that kid. I can’t say shit. Edit to ask if you a parent or teacher. I would tell a teacher that has an educational interest in the student.
  13. Do expunged records typically show up in a background check? Also, wasn’t he acquitted? I always check social media on my hires but most are locked down, as they should be.
  14. Ribs were good when I went. Been a few years though.
  15. Different reason for each person. Child respond better to males, no father figure at home, mom thinks he’s hot, etc. In general, men at elementary schools run fun, engaging classes and the kids beg to be in them. They are more likely to go play sports with the kids at recess and are just more noticeable as a minority. When I was a teacher I was on a grade level with another man for exactly one year. Pay just doesn’t cut it or more guys might be interested.
  16. It will always depend on qualifications and interviews but I’m doing all I can to hire one or two more men at my elementary school for next year. I only have a couple and they are always highly requested by parents and are amazing educators.
  17. I don’t know the answers to a lot of those but I do know driver retention is a big issue. They advertise “life changing money” but it’s really more of a grind. There are a lot of costs involved and the drivers now get about 80 cents a mile or less depending on the city. Hard for them to really cut that any more considering it started around $2 a mile. They still have enough drivers but I will say quality has suffered. Seems like they are just trying to get by until they can use self driving cars. Next time you are in an uber ask the guy how long he has been driving. Usually you will get 6 months or less. Not necessarily a problem as long as they can keep finding replacements.
  18. If you aren’t scared of small enclosed spaces, get a ticket to go to the top of city hall in philly. Some ransom security guard will take you up what is basically a freight elevator but the views are incredible. It’s right next to reading market.
  19. There’s a politics thread for anybody that wants to go that route with it.
  20. The laws are stupid, the comments about how brits are living in fear of violence are just as stupid.
  21. I got called a pussy by the Bernie people on here for “caring about shit talking on twitter” about a month ago. I’ve given up on them having any sense of decency during this primary, especially if he gets behind. I truly hope that most will get in line with the eventual nominee like BT.
  22. Maybe we shouldn’t talk too much shit?
  23. It’s a thread of unpopular opinions not blasphemous bullshit like this. GTFO.
