  1. Of the Democrats on here, I’m far from the most liberal. But, I’m all in with what BT is advocating for on healthcare. The current system is a nightmare for millions of people for all the reasons outlined above. Ill give a personal anecdote. About 12 years ago my now wife was diagnosed with a chronic health condition and was fired from her job for missing work to sort out new doctors, medications, have tests run, etc. She got a new job that allowed her flexibility to figure all of this out as a 23 year old. It didn’t offer any benefits such as health insurance but she had to take it to pay her bills. She got health insurance through cobra....but it was about to expire and her condition would now be considered pre-existing and not covered when she got insurance in the future. This was pre-Obamacare. We got married and I put her on my insurance. Everything about this situation was complicated and difficult to manage for two college educated people. 12 years later she is doing great with her health but has to take days off of work to argue with insurance companies about billing errors, prescription problems, etc. Some of this is probably unavoidable in any system but holy shit if our system isn’t a beating. Her family in England is always shocked at what we have to deal with.
  2. Is “twitter” a language one can speak conversationally? If so, he’s up to 1.
  3. Can Beto close an umbrella?
  4. Dude you have to give more than 50 cents
  5. Beto’s energy and cash could play well in the long run.
  6. I think it’s a benefit because he’s coming off a tough race. It’s not like anybody else in the field would have beat Cruz. Doubtful they would have come as close as Beto or would have engaged so many typical non-voters.
  7. I just want to go on the record as stating I think he wins or at the very least makes a very strong showing. He has some weaknesses to overcome but he has too much going his way to not do well. 1. High energy 2. Connects with people in a genuine way 3. Hard worker 4. Great fundraiser 5. Experienced town hall campaigner 6. Good looking 7. Speaks Spanish 8. Commands an audience when he speaks, even if not polished
  8. Agree with this more than the people that think people are looking for a dem to come out swinging. I think most people want somebody that will restore civility and positivity after 4 years of this shit stain in office. Beto is the most opposite of trump on approach.
  9. He was a big underdog vs Cruz. I think he would be the favorite vs trump.
  10. I thought Betos campaign did a good job of that and mainly focused on turnout. It worked enough for turnout to be way up and almost enough to win.
  11. Presidential election year is a different animal than a midterm. Dems best shot at winning Texas is trump continuing to trump. Add a Beto type on the ticket somewhere and it gets interesting. You would have to be a real sack of shit to vote for trump over anybody, let alone Beto. Unfortunately there are a lot of sacks of shit out there.
  12. Time to fire up the act blue account. I’m going to be a lot poorer $20 at a time.
  13. Nobody in this race will come close to matching his energy level or experience in doing town halls. He will outwork everybody.
  14. Challenged Cruz to two debates in Spanish so I sure hope so.
  15. Won’t get it. If Beto wins he’s not picking another Texan. If Beto doesn’t get it then it will be Beto who gets the call if they want a Texan that speaks spanish.
  16. Team Beto! If he can inspire Texans to the democratic cause enough to almost beat an incumbent senator in a red state, the rest of America should seem easy.
  17. I’m much less concerned with resume padding by rich kids than the bad attitude, lazy, spoiled, rich kids that continually are propped up by their parents. Those parents will go to amazing lengths to bully teachers and schools to keep any of their behavior infractions off their record, demand special programs, grade changes, etc. I know because it’s my job to deal with it, and thats only elementary school. I see the same kids get in trouble with the cops but their connections and high end lawyers are usually able to work their magic. Parents will continually pay for tutors and lawyers to get them through college and into a decent job. They don’t become ultra rich or anything but it pisses me off because the same bratty kid from the other side of town usually ends up with a criminal record and a low wage job, and certainly no degree.
  18. This thread turned into a bunch of nerds.
  19. Schools are judged on retention rates and how quickly they get kids to graduation. Makes for some strange policies.
  20. Interesting because in the recording he said he used the money for facilities. I’m wondering if Patterson was pressuring him so much that he chose the deal with the devil.
  21. Richard Kimble gave them all sorts of trouble.
  22. Is it still the case that you can write a check and get your kid into an elite school? I heard that it’s not like it used to be. I also don’t have 350 million, so that do I know?
  23. I see how crazy some of the competitive parents are in elementary school. Can’t even imagine jr and sr years of hs.
