I got Somme too last night. She battled my bulge and I wanted to stop Midway, but finished on her Tets.

I'm taking a moment to give this post a shout-out. It's stupid/genius stuff like this that makes Surly so amazing. Let's hope we can get back to this level at some point in the future.

It’s pretty alarming how worked up they are getting about that statue on texags. This could get pretty ugly if/when they remove it. It’s a lot like those yahoo comments but moderated.

  3. Hey, if the decision is made to change the names of campus buildings and drop "the Eyes of Texas," it's fine with me. I think an even better idea would be to contribute a portion of the athletic budget to assist black colleges.

What I am concerned about is the Longhorns winning football games. I want our team to make me proud to be a Lifetime Longhorn.

But if this team tanks in the upcoming season, I don't want all the people here clamoring for change to post that "they've never been more proud of the Longhorn players, blah, blah, blah."

    We are proud of championships.

Let's be realistic though - this decade was probably the low point in NFL history for offensive creativity and conservative coach-think.  The same was true of many front offices in the league and their approach to scouting and drafting, leading to at least 30% of the league being consistently terrible for decades. When the Dolphins went 14-0 in the 1972 regular season, they played 2 games against teams with a winning record; there's no way in hell you'll have a team do that in the NFL today.

Fair point but watch the Cowboys play calling vs Dolphins in Super Bowl VI. It is really creative:

  5. Apologies to all the smarter minds here if someone has already mentioned this point, but rather than promising to contribute .05% of profits to Black Lives Matter, which is a political movement (and I have no idea what they would do with the money,) I feel way more people would get behind this proposal if the money was fairly distributed to historically Black universities throughout the state. While you contemplate this thought, here is a picture of an attractive woman.

  6. No idea. I pulled her pic from the JUGGS thread and combined it with a pic from the Surly LSU bar party (which was a really fun event). I would do a Google Images search for her but my younger daughter's college friends are over. It wouldn't be a good look.

Did our players tweet things like this during the last pandemic? That was in the 1300s, right? I could be wrong. I'm not solid with history, dates, numbers, math or football. I'm kind of flustered. I just want our troops to kill everyone and come home.

Reads like poetry. Actually, it IS poetry.

what exactly does this mean?  what do I differently today?

Well, you can start by celebrating the courageous, anonymous posters who continue to educate us about their beliefs about non-related football topics on the Surly football thread.

Nobody made you click on the thread and read until page 4. If mods want to move the topic to CR that’s fine but you knew what you were clicking on.

I'm all for talk about Brennan Eagles' post and how it affects him, the Longhorns and college football in general. One of the reasons the Surly Football thread is great is because it's about...football. There are plenty of other places and ways to get involved in the bigger discussions. As I stated earlier, I am proud of my efforts to help our minority community, as my communications platform reaches over 100,000 people in Central Texas and beyond.  But I love Surly Football for what it is.

This shit needs to be everywhere so people can't ignore it. I post on an anonymous website to annoy people like you.

Well, if you post here to annoy me, I salute you for that.

Silence is acceptance, fuck your safe place.

So not wanting to post about it on an anonymous website is silence, lol?

I own a platform that promotes local black business. What do you do?

Didn’t even have to read more than one post to figure that the appropriate response to the last 2ish pages should be - “Take this shit to the mother fucking cloak room.”.

Agree 100%. We're here to get AWAY from that stuff.  And that doesn't mean that we care any less.

"I could’ve easily got on social media and attacked @drewbrees yesterday. His comments were extremely insensitive, dismissive, and flat out disappointing. Knowing him personally and his character I decided not to do so, and addressed things internally...."

Sure sounds like he DID attack Drew Brees on social media.
