  1. Wife: “Hi, honey. What are you reading?” Me: “Oh, I’m on a website where men talk to other men, and we discuss other men’s bodies, and how ripped the men look, cause they’ve added so much muscle.” Wife: “Okay. Is there something you’d like to tell me?”
  2. There should be a historic plaque outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin that reads, “On this spot in 2005, Ryan Philipe cheated on his wife, Reese Witherspoon, with Australian actress, Abbie Cornish.”
  3. Instead of separating himself from the morons, he acted in a very aggressive way. He grabbed people, held onto them, pushed people back, etc. He should have just walked away and let the idiots sort it out. But since Vince is well, an idiot, he placed himself right in the middle of a very stupid, pointless and unproductive situation. I'm so glad he attended the University of Texas and got us a championship. However, he has become an embarrassment to himself. Hope he gets some help but at this point, my expectations for him are very low. I agree that a lot of bars in Texas suck. However, breweries here and across the US are fantastic.
  4. Always go for the bum rush. That's what I did last fall at the Surly tailgate. While @immamac was stacking the condiments on the folding table, I launched a withering assault from behind and landed a wicked blow to the back of his head with all the aged might I could muster. Both of us tumbled forward straight into the table, which collapsed, with ketchup and mustard bottles, beer openers, paper plates and containers of cole slaw flying every which way. A woman screamed and a huge roar of anger erupted from the crowd. I remember a wild scramble as men grabbed at me, dragging me off Immamac by my legs. His face was bleeding and his glasses were shattered. The enraged onlookers pummeled me with punches and kicks, and I freely admit that I screamed in terror like a girl. As the furious men pounded me with heavy blows, I cried, whimpered and screamed for mercy, stuttering that my medication was to blame. They must have broken my nose, and I was engulfed in pain from the many vicious blows and kicks. Finally, seeing me wrapped up in a ball and crying hysterically, they relaxed their grip. I could see Immamac laying close to me with @6th Street's fiancee administering first aid to him. With what little strength I could muster, I delivered the hardest kick I could, straight to Immamac's face, and I could feel the bones and tissue of his nose collapse, as blood flew everywhere. A mighty cry of fury erupted and three or four dudes proceeded to beat the living crap out of me That's the last thing I remember.
  5. I've been watching the Calipari train-wreck videos on YouTube. He really threw his players under the bus in the press conference following the horrible loss to Oakland. Fun tip: great leaders don't use language to separate themselves from their team. Calipari says awful things like, 'They couldn't do stuff.' 'They got anxious,' etc. Subtext: 'It wasn't my fault.' In many of the videos, the creators discuss whom they would like to replace him. Guess what name hasn't been ever mentioned? Chris Beard really screwed up his life.
  6. Democracy is always at a disadvantage. The very nature of being tolerant puts you at a disadvantage against people who are willing to use a democratic system to seize power, and install a totalitarian regime. The Nazis were a prime example of this, as were the Bolsheviks. I can see Trump and his minions using the courts to have him declared president for life.
  7. My fave Churchill quote about Labour politician Stafford Cripps “He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire."
  8. Thanks for a great post. Random thoughts below. Hitler and Stalin were hardly subtle threats. I gave him credit for his resolve and emotional leadership. It can never be stated enough, especially the threat that Stalin represented before and after the war. Sadly, FDR was fairly blind to the Russian threat but Truman stood up to them. His view on racial superiority that was (is) all too common is one of the reasons nobody wanted to go to war with Germany over the extermination of the Jews. As you likely know, there was a strong, pro-Nazi fascist contingent among the elites of the UK. Germany and Japan did not become enemies to fight until they attacked the would-be Allies. Churchill responded to attack which was natural and represented the consensus of England to resist. True about the fascist support for Hitler, even all over Europe. Like today, it was quite popular, with many fascist dictatorships across the continent. Churchill was one of the early identifiers of the threat Hitler posed and also always hated Stalin. I don't know what the world would be like without Churchill's resolve. Germany was doomed when their attempt to seize the Soviet Union was halted. Russia was defeating the Wehrmacht without the Western front being opened. I think it's 8 of 10 German soldiers who died in WW2 were killed by the Red Army. Always worth repeating that we supplied aircraft, trucks, jeeps, and most importantly, food for the Red Army. Did you know the first Russian tanks into Berlin were Shermans? Crazy stat: Russians SHOT almost as many of their own soldiers for cowardice than we had total combat deaths. The Russians continued to attack the Japanese in Manchuria AFTER the Japanese has surrendered to seize as much land as possible. They even demanded occupation of Japan (after fighting the Japanese for a whole week) and we told them to F off. I'm not sure Churchill's resolve does the trick for England if the Japanese don't bomb Pearl Harbor and Germany does not declare war on the US. The Royal Navy would have prevented any invasion of the British Isles as it had done for centuries. England would have had to just take the battering of the Luftwaffe and missiles until Germany fell. The Germans were planning on floating their army to England on barges. LOL, a German invasion planner was removed from command for asking if anyone else was concerned that their invasion fleet would cross the Channel slower than Napoleon's would have. Churchill was a terrific symbol. Please have the last word. I'm sure nobody needs to read any more on the subject from me. Thanks for your response.
  9. While he certainly had his flaws, his views on racial superiority were very common for his time. And while he was no great military strategist, he rightly perceived the biggest threats to Western civilization in Hitler and Stalin. Without his resolve, we could be living in a much worse world today.
  10. Last year, the NCAA delighted in disrespecting Aggy for daring to question the system. They deserved a 5-seed They were punished with a 7-seed. Then they lost to a 10-seed who was probably given secret instructions to really play dirty. I'm a Longhorn fan, but someone really needs to file a Freedom of Information.

  12. UK signed a horrible deal that with Calipari. At $33M, he literally has the biggest buyout in college athletic history. No one will ever top it. They should be embarrassed about it. Oh, wait.
  13. Love this because someone designed a concept vehicle and didn't wimp out (like they always do) and end up with something boring. Plus, steer-by-wire is awesome. My only complaint is the name and the logo, haha.
  14. Sorry to derail this conversation. Let’s get it back on subject: did you enjoy, “The Last of Us.”
  15. I recently visited a mushroom farm (really just a warehouse) and was amazed how crazy mushrooms truly are. They grow in so many wild shapes and sizes. They gave me a mushroom block to grow (which is a block of soil in a bag about 12” x 12” x 20”) and it was almost frightening how quickly it grew, breaking through the bag and more than doubling its size in less than a week. I was very impressed with the whole thing but I still think they kinda suck.
  16. Finally. Someone had the courage to talk about how awful beets are. I hated them as a kid when my poor, unsophisticated mother served them out of a can. And I hate them just as much today in all of those awful, trendy, gourmet dishes. It’s like eating dirt. Beets just suck. Mushrooms, too.
  17. They should definitely forfeit their game vs Westlake.
  18. Advertising the party on social media is actually a really good idea. It usually attracts the best sort of people. Got kicked out of the party so they fired shots into the house. That's a pretty normal reaction.
  19. I don’t and will never understand the awNFL.
  20. Good point, although now they profess to hate the SEC and are now whining about moving to move to the Big 10. I will address.
