  1. To each their own. That’s generally how I think of Milan. Florence, on the other hand, is my fav of the large cities in Italy. The art, architecture and food are amazing.
  2. Boarded Pearl for a few weeks at a great place in Norfolk while in Spain. I think she is going to prefer this over coming home.
  3. Why not both? Flying to Spain is 2 hours for me and it’s a 16 day trip. No need to rush things…
  4. Up at 4am for the flight to Sevilla this morning. Wiped the fuck out so it’s a pool day.
  5. Yup, they went from the place off Kirby to another one on W. Alabama between Kirby and Shepherd (maybe the old Mission Burrito). I was there on the last night. Went to the new place once, 1836, before I moved almost exactly one year ago and it just didn’t live up. it was another good bar that died. I fear Kenneallys will be another one to go in the next 5-10 years.
  6. Ha, and as I expected, Italy removed the 5-day quarantine for UK travelers. Oh well, Morocco was already canceled and replaced with Spain.
  7. Yep, that’s it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I remember those vividly from my childhood. Those two restaurants, plus the Flying Dutchman in Kemah (before Tillman destroyed) and the Strawberry Patch were some of our go to’s for special occasions with the grandparents.
  9. That’s like buying wine in a steakhouse. A $30k watch selling at 3x to 4x is robbery. love the watch and it will always be a grail for me but not at that price. I bought an AP Royal Oak and VC Overseas first and hope I complete the trifecta some day.
  10. Baileson in West U is great and worth a look. Was always my fav when I lived there.
  11. So Spain it is! I mentioned on another thread of a plan to go to Morocco, mainly Marrakech, in September. The government instituted a 9pm curfew, which originally turned me off to the idea, but I got back on board due to the quality of the hotels/resorts as we were mainly looking for some sun and pool time. It has been a crap summer in the UK so that is desperately needed. Now it looks like Morocco could be headed to the UK red list next week so that plan is dead. Will save Marrakech for 4 to 5 days at another time. The plan is now 12 nights in Andalucia and am thinking the following: 4 Sevilla 1 Cordoba 2 Granada 5 Costa del Sol (Malaga/Marbella and likely a trip to Ronda) I will likely pick up a car on the last day in Sevilla and drive the trip so there is plenty of flexibility to get around or stop off. Anything I’m missing here?
  12. Bulldog in the Wild….narrated by David Attenborough
  13. The Nyetimber isn’t bad. I drink a bit of it in London as it is always reasonably priced for a sparkler. it’s not Krug or Cristal but it can do the trick.
  14. I did 6.5 years in the UK (Aberdeen and London) that ended almost exactly a decade ago. All employer related, move both ways and housing paid, taxes covered. That duration in the UK ultimately enabled me to get citizenship so have a UK passport in addition to my US. The first few years were challenging to settle in but the travel was amazing - all through Europe, Africa and Russia. I always planned on moving back but didn’t realize it would take a decade to get it done. Finally said fuck it last September, sold the house and moved back to London in the middle of Covid and looming lockdowns. Did it all on our own with minimal outside help. That shit was much harder and more stressful at the age of 46 than the first time at a carefree 31. Also had a full house to move over. All that said, haven’t regretted it for a minute and glad to be back in Marylebone where I know loads of people and the neighborhood in general.
  15. I’m curious to see that data as well. And the UK and Israel have some of the best vaccine uptake with adults, so I feel like it’s a different ballgame.
  16. I suspect you will be fine. While the EU can make recommendations, each member country decides their owntravel restrictions. And Italy, Spain, etc need the tourism money badly.
  17. Yup, it’s hard when the rules are always changing. EU is supposed to be discussing the possibility of travel restrictions for Americans this week. Hope it all works out for you.
  18. You should be fine in January, absent any crazy new variant popping up. The UK is in great shape now, will have about 90% of adults jabbed in about another month. Delta is on the way down significantly. Cases still a bit high here but hospitalizations and deaths are low and the vaccine program is working. Life is starting to return to normal in London, although it still feels a bit quiet at times. There isn’t the “buzz” you normally have in the city, but that can be nice too. Pubs, restaurants, etc are quieter and easier to get in.
  19. Yup, mandatory five day quarantine for UK travelers. They will decide to end or extend on August 30 but who knows what will happen.
  20. Sounds like a great trip. Annoyed that I can’t get to Italy without a 5 day quarantine but Spain and France have opened up to UK travelers so that’s my likely option now. Can’t recommend much for Zurich, it’s a bit sleepy. Used to go there for board meetings for a night or two and stayed at the Dolder Grand, which was pretty nice. We would go into the old town for dinner or drinks but nothing ever stood out.
  21. I’ve had the LLC a few times and it really underperformed so curious about your thoughts. Also had the GPL and a few of the Poyferre’s, and they were absolutely singing.
