  1. I left 2 years ago and no plan on going back to Texas. Wife and I got our U.K. passports in 2011 so was always the plan to get back to London. It just took a bit longer than planned when we moved back in 2020. Is London  forever? Maybe, maybe not, but Texas is no longer on the radar. And the longer we live here, most of the US won’t be either. Although we do talk about Santa Fe or San Diego at times.

The trade winds seem to be blowing Kounde in the direction of Barca now. That would be a massive blow at this stage in the game.

The winds are more than blowing, I think it’s done. Dave may not be headed to Barca now though. Feel bad for him but helps us.

Posting here first in hopes of finding some help. Headed to London in a few weeks which aligns with Week 2 of EPL. Want to attend the Tottenham @ Chelsea match that Saturday. Does anyone have any advice on the best place to secure aftermarket tickets without being ripped off? I've seen a few sites, but hard to tell what is/isn't reputable. TIA!

The secondary market is very difficult. In the past, I used our hotel concierge to get tickets.

Dude Helo, you're more than welcome to participate and trash talk. I just don't understand the need for being such a raging asshole for no good reason.

Because it’s really hard to talk trash when you keep getting the shit kicked out of you over and over? He just resorts to being a little bitch.

Decided to swap a couple of watches that I rarely, if ever, wear anymore. Went through Watchfinder and am getting rid of my IWC Aquatimer Darwin Edition and Girard Perregeaux Richeville Chrono. I’m getting the IWC Top Gun and Tudor Black Bay GMT Coke, plus a bit of cash back. There’s a fair amount of watch theft in London these days, so I was looking for a few to wear more often while giving the Vacheron Overseas and Audemars RO a bit more rest.

These two arrived today. In great condition and feeling very good about the swap with the others I no longer wore. 726A3FAD-815E-47BE-8033-E6BBA86EBB0A.thumb.jpeg.fc7334f7203f3c4dcd3784f118348662.jpegAADBF015-CB33-4713-B582-2E1619923088.thumb.jpeg.2930956d408643adfdf9791d67922f17.jpeg

Just like "shhh, it'll all be over soon" doesn't exactly comfort a rape victim in mid-rape, your words bring little solace to the euros who have never experienced triple digit heat in their lives.  It's just pure suck.

Well, that’s a bizarre comparison. Not trying to bring solace or show lack of sympathy. It’s just a fact - it cools off in 24 hours….

Highs tomorrow in London and Paris: 102 and 106.  A buttload of people are going to die.

And as bad as the summer of 2011 was, I don't recall it being THIS bad.  The 102-104 degree highs are unrelenting, they go back for 45 days, and the forecast seems endless with them repeating.  It's goddamned unlivable.

It’s hot as shit here right now, 97f at 7pm now. Tomorrow will be hotter. I’m lucky in that my office has great air con and at home we have 2 portable units for the living room and bedroom.  It’s actually not bad for us but lots of people are uncomfortable now. Will all be over in 24 hours though.

I've already flown 25k miles this year on vacations. So far not a single delay and that includes 3 international trips and going both in and out of Heathrow. Don't let a few bad stories dissuade you

Haven’t flown a ton out of London this year but have been to Marrakech, Croatia, Romania 2x, Dublin and Stockholm. Most for pleasure, some for business, and it’s been fine. A few long security lines (70 minutes) in my one flight out of Gatwick but otherwise manageable. Not as easy as pre-Covid times, but not as dramatic as the news makes it sound.

But….you have to be very careful traveling around the school holidays/half terms here. That’s when it really goes to shit.

Avoid flying out of Heathrow at all costs.

Gatwick is much worse, and the worst in the U.K. for cancellations. But in reality, the whole country is a shitshow now and will get much worse next week when the kids are out of school.  I won’t fly again until September.

  11. Second opinion is always worthwhile. Good luck with it. The struggle is always the slow decline, when you know what’s coming but not necessarily when. It’s stressful and worrisome. My FIL is putting down his 11yo yellow lab today up in Sequim. She’s a sweetheart, and it’s going to be a tough day for him, and us to some degree.

I decided to skip the beaches altogether. I got through most of my guidebook on the first flight to Tokyo and Northern Thailand seems more culturally unique so I'm gonna stay up there after 4 days in Bangkok.

Nice, and a great choice if you’re not really in search of beaches. Let us know where you end up.

I'm about to board a flight to Thailand and this was the only thread briefly discussing it. I'll be in Bangkok 4 nights then Chiang Mai 4 nights. I'm thinking one of the beach areas for four nights then back to Bangkok a night or two before flying home. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A blog was suggesting Ko Tao which requires a flight to Ko Samui then a 2 hour ferry to Ko Tao. I live in Hawaii so seeing pretty beaches is fine, but not necessarily a high priority if there are more culturally interesting places to visit in the country. I figured I would go to Bangkok first and get suggestions from locals and expats before booking the last four or five days of the trip.

You could keep going north up to Chiang Rai, maybe even go across into Myanmar. There’s enough to do up there for 3 or 4 days and you could get a driver from Chiang Mai.

Krabi is a good beach trip, although I seem to recall it was a short flight from Bangkok.

  14. How long are you there? I used to live in Scotland so could give some recs. the west coast and some of the Hebrides are fantastic, but November will be a difficult time. The weather is guaranteed to suck and the days will be short.

  16. And he’s done. Yesterday he was “buoyant” and “ready for a fight.” This morning, he has resigned. Long overdue, Boris is a fucking idiot, constantly lying and his Chancellor (Rishi Sunak, who resigned Tuesday) actually raised taxes in a time where inflation and cost of living increases are crushing people. Good to see him go, the challenge will be who replaces him in the next few weeks. The list of Tory candidates is not strong.

Unfortunately, the pills have stopped being effective.  They were great for about two months, but they stopped working while I was gone.  She is still in high spirits, but is having stomach and pooping issues that aren’t fair to her or me.  It’s tough because she is back to jumping on the bed, wags her tail, loves to go on walks (and hunt for rats), and still eats like a horse.   🥺

Sorry to hear that and all the best. Had a similar issue with my last bully. Had a cancerous mass around her heart that was slowly growing. Once she hit 10 years, it sped up, growing more and beginning to spread. She stopped eating without assistance and had no energy. She went on some pills and was like her old self for about 2 months, but then it stopped working and that was all she wrote. Still tears my heart out to this day.
