  1. Bonus because Paul Newman cuddles with her in Slap Shot.
  2. That's a result of the most commonly used world map being one that was developed for nautical reasons. This distortion is because of something called the Mercator Projection. Historically, maps can be traced back to the ancient times when explorations took place by using the magnetic compass and Pole Star for navigation. While traditional maps made on flat surfaces gave apt information but gave inaccurate size of countries or places depending on their position relative to the equator. Putting a 3D planet on a two-dimensional map was something of a challenge for early cartographers and so Dutch geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator came up with a solution. In 1569 he designed a map that could be accurately used for navigation purposes, but the downside was that his system distorted the size of objects depending on their position relative to the equator. Because of this, landmasses like Antarctica and Greenland appeared much larger than they actually are. https://geospatialworld.net/blogs/maps-that-show-why-some-countries-are-not-as-big-as-they-look/#:~:text=Why does this happen?,larger than they actually are. Here's a to-scale world map:

  4. Wrong. All of you are wrong. For anyone supporting any version of that abomination, may God have mercy on your soul.
  5. "Little Drummer Boy" makes me surly. If a stupid drummer came up to our house on the night that our baby was born, he'd get a load of 12-gauge birdshot in his drumming ass. By far the stupidest Christmas song. Makes me surly as soon as it comes on.

  16. In that scenario, it would have been even better if it were Oregon, as 2-pac would have sugar daddy Knight . . . Still, it's notoriously big . . . I'll be here all week.
  17. I agree with you that the NCAA has lost almost all of its usefulness. But legally, B1G and SECX3 eligibility rules aren't likely to fare much better. Once athletes became commercial actors with NIL, then any attempt to regulate their ability to earn a living is subject to the Sherman Act, and potentially illegal anti-trust activity. Unfortunately, only Congress can fix this. Is there a worse position to be in than that? Anyone here want Congress regulating CFB?
