I'm not going to get into a discussion of who does or doesn't believe, and I don't care, since my opinion can be based on what Ibelieve, but if Mack hadn't dragged things out like a pussy to prevent it (with enabling from Powers), Saban would have been our coach and not Coach Potato.
It may approach it, but for me Mack will always be in the lead. I blame Mack for causing the downfall that put us on the long road to having this asshole as our coach. Every year that we suck, no matter who the coach, I hold Mack equally responsible.
My biggest concern with this whole concept (if true) that Herm has been given required benchmarks to meet next year (ie. Playoffor else) is what do you do if the guy gets in the vicinity of the benchmarks but doesn't achieve them. If he loses 2 games early and is never in the playoff discussion, but ends with just 2 losses do you still fire him? Probably not. Then you're stuck in limbo for another year waitimg to see if that year or this year was the real TH.
USC and Helton is an example. Instead of just cutting bait last year they gave him one more season with required thresholds. He didn't meet them but got close. Last I checked they haven't fired him yet and some think they won't. And yet how much confidence is there that he's going to take them to a championship level based on this year's result?
Negotiating with who? If Herman truly had awareness of the problems and the need to fix things then he should be the one wanting to get rid of these guys. The only reason he'd be negotiating is because he's beimg force to get rid of guys he wants to keep. If that's the case then he has no real recognition of the problems and we're fucked as lomg as he's here.
Maybe Alabama just wasn't that good when they wanted to fire Shula to get Saban, after a string of failed coaches. Yeah, the fans of that program just need to accept their mediocrity cause they'll never be great again.
Oh wait....
That's all well and good, but if you pass on the chance for a homerun like Meyer due to some slavish loyalty to a 5 year quota, then you damn sure better have a new homerun hire identified and ready to come in at that point or CDC should expect for his ass to be next out the door.
You should never be so inflexible in your strategy that you fail to accept a lucky break when handed to you just because it isn't what you had planned.
I'm drunk and I fucking hate every coach and administrator associated with this this program because NO ONE makes a fucking decision based on what we need to do to be champions. Everyone is fucking happy with winning a few games each year as long as we have alignment and continuity and maintain an image that winning isn't our priority.
FUCK EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING.
That TD celebration was one of the most absolutely fucking stupid thimgs I've ever seen. Literally begging the refs for an unsportsmanlike penalty. He cost his entire team a chance to go to a bowl. I'd be tempted to boot him off the team.
My mistake on the bowl eligibility. Still monumentally stupid.
I'm thankful for all the free time I'm going to have on Fall saturdays the next year or two, and thankful to have everyone here to commiserate with about it.
Nothing for them to be scared of. We'll show the usual inaction and give TH another year or two while Meyer goes to win championships somewhere else. Then we'll finally figure out TH is a failure and should have been fired now. Instead we will have wasted a year or two of everyone's life and playing career, missed out on the transcedent coaching hire, and pick between the various 2nd tier hit or miss coaches available at that time that we'll tell ourselves is the real deal because he fits our standards.
Rinse and repeat every few years.
It's what we do. Nothing for them to worry about.
