  1. Anyone prep their water system for this storm? We went out this evening after work and pulled it from our storage, dumped the water tank, and blew out the lines. Probably didn’t need to but feel better about it after having it done. Low temps are saying 25F where we keep it so just wanting to be on the safe side.
  2. Did y’all buy or build your cabin? Any other outbuilding other than the shitter at the cabin? That one pic of the cabin looks like you are in a heavily wooded area. What does your regular garden look like?
  3. Yep, we've all been there.
  4. This lifestyle is pretty fascinating to me down here in Tx and while I don't think I could handle a full winter in AK I would like to experience some of that for a little bit. As I posted in the other thread I came across this youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/SimpleLivingAlaska/featured and its a young couple living an off grid lifestyle in Alaska down toward Anchorage. Their channel is simply videos of them doing everyday life: growing a garden, canning food, raising chickens and bees, hunting and fishing for meat and working around their small homestead. They use a small solar system with an inverter supplemented with generator for power, wood for heating and propane for cooking. The contrasts between winter and summer are quite amazing to me.
  5. Edit timed out so: ETA: And about the battery running down, my kids car had a faulty trunk light switch that failed on and would keep the trunk light on all the time. He was at school and not driving it very much and would go out after a week and have to jump it off. I replaced one battery in it and we finally traced it down by measuring the leakage current draw on the battery and pulling fuses until it stopped. Did the same to an older suburban that had a bad gauge cluster and would cause a battery draw down. Intermittent electrical issues in vehicles are a pain in the ass to troubleshoot.
  6. I had bought and put jumper cables in my kids vehicles when they started driving. Made them a safety kit with a flashlight, gloves, LED flares, some basic tools, a tow strap for the 4x4 Tacoma, etc. Both have either been jumped off or jumped off someone else using the cables but a couple of years ago I got them both the GB40 version of this jump box. Works great for medium sized vehicles and during AZN black friday they are typically 25-33% off. Much easier than cables. I bought the big GB70 version for my truck and have used it on trucks, tractors and the dozer. I still carry a set of cables but these jump boxes have pretty much rendered them obsolete.
  7. Nice, inside and out. A longtime buddy has been working a while of fixing up and old hay barn into his weekend getaway/man cave. From the outside its just and old barn but inside is a pretty good hangout. While not a big deer spot, there are always a couple of rabbit dogs under foot, pigs to shoot, good food to eat and beer to drink and a pretty good domino game every once in a while.
  8. Not a hollow point. Full metal jacket rounds don’t deform that much. Shot plenty of 9mm and 40 SW into a dirt backstop that were later dug out and looked perfect except for rifling grooves.
  9. RIP Dr Johnny Fever.

  18. Grill company apologizes after sending meatloaf recipe day after rock star Meat Loaf's death NEW YORK — Weber picked the wrong day to suggest grilling meatloaf. The outdoor grill maker apologized on Friday for sending a recipe-of-the-week email earlier that day featuring instructions on how to prepare “BBQ Meat Loaf.” The email coincided with news of the death of Marvin Lee Aday, best known as rock superstar Meat Loaf. Not long after sending out its recipe, Weber Grills followed up, offering its “sincerest apologies” to recipients. “At the time we shared this recipe with you, we were not aware of the unfortunate passing of American singer and actor Mr. Marvin Lee Aday, also known as Meat Loaf,” Weber said. “We want to express our deepest apologies for this oversight and for any offense this email may have caused.”
