  1. Say someone had a few thousand dollars they wanted to make a stonks bet on the S&P 500 going down in the next 6-12 months. What would be the best method for doing this? I understand the concept of a put option and how they work, but don't understand how they are priced. Any good resources to learn about this? How do you know if they are "expensive" and if this information is already "priced in"? I've read some on the Black Scholes model, but where I tend to get lost is with the implied volatility. Also, other than the infinite downside, which I would think would be more limited when shorting an index vs individual stock, what would be the difference between shorting the index vs buying put options?
  2. Watched Jimmy O Yang's (Jian Yang from Silicon Valley and the crazy bachelor party guy in Crazy Rich Asians) stand up special last night and it is solid. Pretty funny bits about trying to explain stand up to his Chinese father and how his father started successfully acting after he did.
  3. When I was in high school an assistant principal came into my English class and pulled our teacher out of the room. He came back a few minutes later and said she wouldn't be returning to class that day, but didn't tell us anything else. We found out later in the day that her husband, who was a DPS officer, was shot and killed while he was conducting a traffic stop. https://www.kxan.com/news/texas-troopers-shooter-previously-threatened-to-kill-police/

  5. I have a 2011 135i with DCT that I bought CPO in 2013 when I was living in the bay area. It is my first sports car, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I love it. It is plenty fast for me and has great acceleration. The original run-flat tires with the stiff suspension made for a pretty tough ride, but when it was time to replace them, I went with non run-flats and the ride is much improved. Since I moved back to Denver, I bought a beater SUV for snow days, so I could keep this car. As far as issues, it's been a daily driver for me and I've only had two non-standard maintenance issues with it. The first was the water pump failed a couple of years after I bought it and that was covered under warranty. Then, a couple of years ago there was a leak in the engine cooling system that was about $700 to repair at my independent mechanic. They also replaced the battery at the same time because it was throwing off some other codes (all cleared with new battery) and that was about $400 since they have to "register" the battery to the car for it to charge properly. I've worked from home the last couple years, so it doesn't get driven as much (~7k miles/yr). Mostly out to the airport and a couple road trips a year, in addition to the grocery runs/errands. It's been paid off for a few years now and I don't have any plans to get something else any time soon. Let me know if you have any questions I didn't answer.
  6. Show last night was awesome. They played for about 1:45 straight, then just left the stage for a 12 minute intermission (had a countdown timer with the laser lights). When they came back Danny Carey played Chocolate Chip Trip and then the rest of the band rejoined for three more songs. All in they played for about 2:15. They started out with Fear Inoculum, then Aenema, The Pot, Parabol/Parabola, before playing Pneuma. The only other song they played from the new album was Invincible. Others I remember them playing were Vicarious, Schism, 46&2, Jambi, and they closed with Stinkfist. I know there are a few songs I'm forgetting. My only complaint was the sound mix, the bass was too high and vocals too low. There were a few songs that it took me awhile to realize what they were because the bass was drowning out the guitar and vocals. Otherwise, it was a great show and the crowd was really into it. Here are a couple pics during Stinkfist
  7. Osama wins for best tail number on his Phenom 300. CF-WTF
  8. Yep, I watch his videos on occasion, along with the others you listed. The others I have in my rotation are Niko's Wings, Trent Palmer, and Aviation101 (lives in Austin with plane hangared in San Marcos).
  9. Got my tickets to the show in Denver. A couple floor seats kept popping up, but every time I tried to add them I'd get some error. Fuckin ticketmaster. Oh well, I'm in section 104, which are pretty decent.
  10. On my second time through the album now. Invincible and 7empest are the two that jump out at me off the bat. We'll see how the others grow the more I listen.
  11. I've done this 3 different times with 2 different companies and the package was different each time. First move Dallas to Denver with a midsize company. A couple of trips to Denver for apartment hunting, all expenses driving up (mainly gas/food since you can do the drive in one day), professional movers, and costs of breaking my lease were paid for. Second move Denver to San Jose with large company where they had a relocation company handle everything. Package included two trips for house hunting with realtor guiding me around, professional movers with packing service, 30 days temp housing and storage of household goods, all expenses for driving from Denver to San Jose, and one month salary for "incidentals". I didn't have to break a lease on this move, but they would have reimbursed for that as well, along with expenses selling a home if I had one. Anything that wasn't tax deductible was grossed up. Don't remember the exact amount as I was way under it, but think they capped the total package at $60k. Third move with same company as second, San Jose to Denver. I negotiated a move back to Denver with a work from home arrangement since my company no longer had an office out here. I was expecting to pay for the move back myself, but they gave me an $8k lump sum that I was able to do with what I wanted. No tax gross up on it. For all of these I had to sign a 1-2 year employment contract with pro-rated payback terms if I left early.
  12. I don't have netflix, but because of this I'll sign up to watch.
  13. Here's what I could find from the Cussler museum
  14. Took my dad here when he came to visit about a month ago. He really enjoyed it and it was cool to see all of the old steam train engines they have in there too. The other car museum I've been to up here is the Cussler Museum in Arvada. They display a rotating selection of around 70 cars from Clive Cussler's collection. Really cool, especially if you enjoy his books. The collection is split up in two rooms with prewar cars in one and post war through the 60's in the other. The main downside is it is only open on weekdays during the summer. I'll try to dig up some pictures from the last time I was there.
  15. how much do clothes cost in the matrix?
  16. I had tickets for the Red Rocks show and not surprisingly got an email today that the show has been canceled. They are now saying they will be on an indefinite hiatus. I've pasted the full message below. From the band: To Our Fans, We want to again apologize for the abrupt cancellations of our shows this past weekend. We can assure you that the situation was not in our control. We want nothing more than the opportunity for to heal, and to not put all of you though this ever again. To have a chance for any of this, we need to cancel all of our remaining tour dates. Turnpike Troubadours will go on an indefinite hiatus until a time we feel that everyone is of strong mind, body and spirit and can deliver what our fans deserve. Refunds for all scheduled shows can be made at point of purchase. To all of you who have given us so much, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You believed in us, you raised us up, you stuck by us and you gave us more unconditional love than any band could ask for. We are humbled. We ask that you please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we work to support and encourage. Thank you all for everything. We love you!

  18. My grandparents used to own a dancehall in Victoria, so I have some vague recollections of seeing Jerry Jeff Walker and Doug Stone, among others, there when I was little. I have a picture with Jerry Jeff and my dad when I was 4. First real concert was Toadies and Everclear at Sunken Gardens in San Antonio. It was in either '95 or '96.
  19. I'm not a professional pilot, just an aviation enthusiast, but I have perused the corporate pilot salary survey results in the past. Pay will vary greatly depending upon aircraft type (flying a large Gulfstream will typically pay more than light Cessna CJ series), experience, etc. Here is a site with the 2018 survey results breaking it down for pay by aircraft type for Captain, First Officer, and Chief Pilot. I'll let the airline guys on here comment on salary by type for the majors and discount carriers.
  20. I bought the Tramontina 80114/535DS Professional Aluminum Nonstick Restaurant Fry Pan off of Amazon about a year ago to replace an old Anolon frying pan and it is holding up really well. The nonstick coating is still in great shape.
  21. Danny Ric!!! "Tripping major nut sack right now" 😄
  22. Just came to post this one and saw it at the top of the page. I heard a Deryl Dodd cover of it and have been listening to both a lot recently.
