  1. Easily. Despite some comments made on that thread nobody is watching that fish once it’s iced down and in the cockpit. Someone might check on it once an hour.
  2. The boats are insured. You can’t get in a slip in a marina without it. Some will require you to attempt to move the boat out of the way of a named storm.
  3. I’ve seen your bar tabs. That’s not gonna cover it.
  4. Small world. I assume you are talking about Wayne Sr. I don’t see them much anymore since we moved our boat to CR but Marlin Magic used to be in the slip next to me when we had the boat here in the city marina. A few years after that incident most of their crew was fishing with me on my boat in POCO. It got cancelled due to weather so Wayne Jr, Jordan, and a few of my guys jumped on a plane and flew to CR to fish the FADs . I think we caught 9 blues on a day trip the first day. If POCO hadn’t been cancelled and I had not been on that trip I’m not sure I would have moved my boat. Funny how things work. And we never did get our entry fee back. That was the beginning of the end for POCO a lot of people were really pissed off.
  5. Oh, and the Freeman shit was a mate pumping like 3 gallons of water into the marlin whiie they were running into the scales. There’s a LONG thread about it on thehulltruth
  6. I’ll head up there after lunch and save us a table. I’m pretty sure I can make it till Thursday night. Bring food though. We almost got an OU sucks chant going there last night. I did manage to get a strong Hook ‘em out of the guitar player.
  7. That ‘12 POCO thing was pretty good friends of mine out of Port A. They were fishing a center console and landed what would have been the winning fish so worth well over 500,000. Details are a little hazy but I think it was the only kill fish that year. Anyway, they got the marlin to the boat and stuck it with the flying gaff. Fish went nuts, pulled the gaff out and the leader also broke or maybe the hook just pulled. Fish is gone. Minutes later while they go back to fishing and are crying about it the fish pops back up near the boat so they drive over to it and bring it in the boat. I can’t recall if they self-reported or if another boat saw it happen and turned them in. Per IGFA rules that would have been a catch if they were just trying to release it since they had the leader but since they were trying to boat it it’s a DQ for losing control of the fish.
  8. Back on track. @immamac I can get there when they open but unfortunately can’t drink much after that although I would love to. Hate family weddings. I’ll steal a table or 2 if they won’t let you.
  9. Sorry bad night. Done with pretty much everything here.
  10. Because you have no clue what you are talking about. See you at Lavaca 🤘
  11. From Port A? mostly because I know these people. And I’m going the wrong direction next weekend.. Any other question?
  12. @ztejas @BornAndRaised @MissingInActionWe could get you an Uber back and forth from Port A
  13. Can’t speak to freshwater tournaments but saltwater is a bunch of rich guys basically gambling. Say you’ve got 100 boats in a tournament. Maybe 20 have a decent shot of winning. The other 80 are just taking their shot at getting lucky. I don’t know that I would call it weird and it’s not a culture because it attracts all types. It’s definitely still for enjoyment and the outdoors. It’s not relaxing at all. It’s not for everyone for sure.
  14. Hey, he’s got air but flush and straight draw. Call with your J high. While behind.
  15. Good luck. I hate to say it but it doesn’t get any easier for a long time. Even once you get water and power back you are still going to have to deal with housing issues for your staff much less those in your portfolio. And then the contractors come in and a lot are shitty but you still have to find a place to put those people too to help fix everything. It’s a mess that takes well over a year to get better and really more like 2 years to be 90% back to normal. if it’s anything like Port A you will see some wild property value fluctuations over the next 2 years and some opportunities. We of course had Covid thrown on top of the tail end of our recovery, but a bunch of people made a lot of money on the disaster.
  16. Regardless, while I’ve fished a few kill tournaments I don’t like them. I much prefer catch and release tournaments where you get 3x points for a marlin (1.5x for a white marlin), and 1x points for a sailfish. It’s all on video. Even better, most of the tournaments I fish lately have a certified observer on board assigned randomly to a different boat every day. You don’t even have to take video (but we do just in case) and the observer calls the species and the catch or no catch. Simplifies things for everyone. Now I guess a team could bribe the observer but if they approached 99% of them that would get them banned for life. For the most part the higher end tourney teams are on the up and up and will DQ fish on their own if they feel like they did something wrong - like touching a line by accident.
  17. That’s pretty easily solved though. Video the catch and bringing the fish into the boat. It’s going to be pretty obvious if a fish is attached to any other lines or weights.
  18. That would be my guess. There’s a well known Texas billfishing team that is banned for life from tournaments. I still don’t know exactly what they did but people don’t look too kindly towards cheating when there is that kind of money on the line.
  19. This one in the scheme of things is fairly small. I don’t know what their entry fees are in a tournament like that but there are billfish tournaments where the ENTRY fee can approach 100,000 and the winning team can take home over 3 million. A few years back a team got DQ’ed from a 2.5 million dollar payout on the east coast. They didn’t exactly cheat it just turned out that a person on the boat didn’t have a valid fishing license. Now this dude was clearly cheating and I’m surprised wasn’t caught sooner. Polygraph tests are mandatory in billfish tournaments pretty much all over the world. @fattyflattieyou probably heard what happened this summer with Billy the owner of Freeman boats. I’ve been tournament fishing a little over 10 years now and I think that’s maybe the 4th time I’ve ever heard of something going bad. The other 2 or 3 times were pretty technical rules DQ’s and not somebody stuffing weight into the cavity of the fish. Holy shit.
  20. He was too busy watching aggy give up 475 yards to Arkansas. And Miss St.
  21. I mean just wow. What the fuck is that call
