  1. Dairy King in Taft. If you are driving To Port A from Austin or San Antonio it’s worth a stop.
  2. So just hauled out for the first time since June 2020, and that was for a survey. I’m almost positive the last time we had a bottom job was almost 4 years ago. And well, it shows. Holy crap. @fattyflattie like I said on the fishing thread the cockpit and interior are like new. I knew the bottom was a problem but wasn’t expecting this. After the yard sand blasts it my mate is going to hate me for life.
  3. Man it’s a perfect entry level flybridge for the gulf. That size Viking rides better than most 60 foot boats because of the hull and weight. Trade off is it eats fuel. I just wouldn’t sell it to anyone I know without them understanding it’s going to take 200,000 to make the boat right again.
  4. No not at all it’s just time to sell. Market is good and I’ve had her 10 years. Engine hours are getting up and honestly they need an overhaul if you want to fish it as many hours a year as we do. I just did the “1000 hour service” at about 600. Also needs all new electronics other than the radar. it sucks because the boat itself is in like new condition, and it’s a 2004. Edit- well other than the bottom. I’ll post pics of that in a minute on the boat thread. But the interior and cockpit are perfect.
  5. I’m crying in my beer but we will find something.
  6. Pictures are always hard to judge but that looks like at least 50-55
  7. Wish I could. We are getting no response at all so either it already sold or it’s not really for sale. It’s a 50’ Willis.
  8. Several times a day? You must be new here. for whatever he is I scrolled by a lot of his posts but he never, that I saw, went after anyone. Most of what I saw was injecting politics in DT or wherever in some weird passive aggressive form. And then for whatever reason Lobo was scrubbed but Guest Lobo remains. I mean who could ever connect those dots. It’s funny, and I choose to believe that it’s our resident aggy just fucking with him.
  9. Far as I can tell, and I don’t want to look into it too far, that was a news/op piece that was likely buried somewhere between page 10 and 11. Or it might have been in the comic section. Do they still have that I don’t know? There was also nothing wrong with it. They flung poo at a bunch of reasons why this hasn’t escalated and asking why Russia hasn’t done certain things, like I don’t know, bomb the shit out of every airfield and supply line NATO has. I’m sure one of the things they hit on is right except they ignored the nuclear/chemical/biological option. Nowhere did they argue that Putin IS showing restraint. But hey, good twitter headlines for all and my main takeaway is Putin is a fucking idiot.
  10. Man, you need to take a break. And trust me this is coming from someone who often needs a break from this site or at least hot topics. it’s in the 3rd freaking paragraph - “Part of the reason appears to be sheer incompetence: The opening weeks of the war demonstrated vividly that Russia’s military was far less capable than believed before the invasion.” you are talking tactics, or troops/weapons/vehicles. That’s not what the article is about. Maybe the headline containing restraint bothered you but that was a headline writer and the article never really even addresses it.
  11. Did you read the nyntimes article? That’s a complete distortion of what it was about.
  12. That’s not exactly saying a whole lot. But it’s really really good. Also it’s a cool little place with a good atmosphere and cold drinks.
  13. Thank you for the help. It’s really good and for a place that is “out of town” everyone mentions it. I think it’s 5 miles out from the ferry landing. Really good pasta, too. edit- port a brewing closed. It’s tortugas now which is the same people that own Fins and Daddymacs. Really like Fins these days and Daddy’s gets me through a fix when I’m dying for barbecue but it’s not centex worthy. Most everything we’ve had at Tortugas has been very good too. They also own the pirate ship, and Deep Sea Headqurters for offshore fishing or dolphin watch tours.
  14. Well I tried to answer and I think I understood what he is asking. If you mean the visa part I don’t know. Good to hear. They also could have paid someone to fake a negative test.
  15. Bluewater Cowboy has good sushi and a pretty good regular menu. And another good burger spot is Bernie’s bar and you can enjoy dollar drafts or 2 dollar wells while you wait. Lisabella’s at Cinnamon Shore is pricy but good food. There’s also a pizza/Italian place out there that is really good. Can’t think of the name right now. You’ve got a pretty good list. La Palma, rock n roll sushi, angry marlin, and padre pizzeria are the ones on your list that are not in port a. Edit- Coaches for breakfast or cheesesteak but it is tiny and can have a really long wait. Pretty much everywhere will have a long wait if you are here while it’s busy. Places like Venetian and Lisabella’s you won’t be able to get in without a reservation. Yeah Castaways was there and moved across the street to where Phoenix was. Phoenix is now out at Island Moorings.
  16. I like a bunch of other places in Port A but for sure you are missing Venetian Hot Plate for a nice meal and Fins for casual. Never thought I’d be saying that but their food quality is way better than it used to be. It’s still a little touristy and pricy for what it is - think Virginia’s or Trout Street or Moby Dick’s. All of those places have similar price points. But the food at Fins is better and it’s replaced Kody’s in our rotation. giggity’s and harbor lights are closed for good. And yes Shorty’s is moving November 1st so I don’t know how long they will take to get up and running. Shouldn’t take too long since they are moving the building to its new spot at the corner of Allister and Beach Street.
  17. That depends on what country you get stuck in. Since the testing is required by the U.S. to return I imagine some countries don’t give a shit where you stay after a positive test and then some countries would have a fairly strict quarantine policy.
  18. https://www.forbes.com/advisor/travel-insurance/best-pandemic-travel-insurance/ I used Trawick for Costa Rica travel. It was cheap and covered a lot in addition to Covid. Never used it but I assume it would have been pretty easy.
  19. Hi @troph im getting some really good offers right now but for a bigger boat and more than I want to spend. Text me
  20. Waiting on interior pics and numbers. Price is right. could be yacht finish could be charter finish. I’m expecting the latter. Boat market is absolutely horrible right now for buyers.
  21. They are clearing about 3500 a month. It’s a very nice 4 bedroom with a pool on the road up to Manuel Antonio. But that’s since November so I’m real curious to see what happens in the off-season. Or you can buy a really nice house down there for cheap as long as you don’t buy in the tourist spots. Of course that means you won’t be able to rent it out when you aren’t there. The market there has gone really soft compared to the prices we were seeing 6 or 7 years ago. How much of that is Covid related I don’t know. I have a good friend that’s a realtor in Los Suenos/Jaco and when I go back next month we will have a long talk. My other issue I have to work out is I just listed my boat. I’ll go crazy down there without a boat so if it sells quickly I’m going to be scrambling to find a replacement. I have a feeling I’ll be sitting out at least one season and hoping the market comes back to reality. If it doesn’t I’ll probably have to buy a CR flagged boat that I can have my captain run charters on to help with the expenses.
  22. Between surly and my family I’ve already decided I don’t need a house I’ll need a hotel. And I thought Port A was bad. pretty sure I’m going to rent something for 6 months or a year to make sure it’s the right decision and also see what happens with my house here. I’m not going to sell so I’ll put it in the STR pool with a property management company. If the market stays the same that will fully fund CR plus I’ll make a decent amount. After that I’d probably buy something there. We met some good people down there this year from Ft. Worth that moved down full time about 6 months ago. They bought a really nice house that they list on Airbnb and when it’s rented out they just go stay in a condo in Jaco. They shared some of the financials on that deal with me and it’s definitely working.
  23. Yeah the rain up there isn’t all that bad. You can get unlucky and be there when it rains all day but that isn’t normal. I’m starting to look into moving down full time or at least for a year and see how it goes. Or if I’m being honest I’ve been thinking about it a long time but my girlfriend finally decided she’s ready to give it a shot. If I can get everything worked out it’ll happen this summer. Stay tuned.
