  1. I know a few of the 80 some-odd idiots fairly well that stayed in Port A during Hurricane Harvey. The next day she found this scene at the liquor store across from IGA. She went across the street and got a cart at IGA and filled it up. I don’t really blame her.
  2. First time I have ever seen this. Only happens on unread content page. It doesn’t really bother me, it’s just different. iPad, safari.
  3. Also after they return he is going to give me a quote for another run based on time, fuel, etc. I don’t think that’s the way we want to go here. They will get plenty of supplies and if it’s like Port A they will get too much. They will need money, clothes, decent food, and beer.
  4. I think that was all rumors, and even if Mars or similar got loose it shouldn’t be a big deal. The bigger boats should be able to get out there today, it’s 6 foot seas at 6 secs which isn’t fun, but not horrible. The problem is going to be getting the people to the boats. Friend of mine that owns a crew boat based here started running up that way about an hour ago. It’s ummm, not pretty down there.
  5. Ok, so they are leaving Thursday morning and have been told they can only go as far as Baton Rouge to drop off. From there other trucks will take the supplies further south. So my original thought was good, we’ve got some time to figure out how to help later. Will start a separate thread for that after I’ve talked to immamac.
  6. Ok, 4 hours of sleep I’m good to go. Yes, but it’s always slow when it comes to hurricanes. We weren’t able to get back into Port A for almost 4 days days after Harvey. Their focus right now is power and frankly they don’t really care about the other damage yet. But I suspect you’ll start hearing about the oil and gas infrastructure today…. That’s a little different. No news on the LOOP yet so good, I think? Im headed over to Zarsky Lumber when they open this morning and will be able to talk to the guy coordinating tomorrow’s shipment of supplies.
  7. And hot food. That was the greatest thing ever. As soon as I hear anything about volunteer groups setting that up I’ll post it. That, and a cold beer after a long day’s work is where any money I can raise will go. I haven’t talked to him yet, but I’m betting that the Camp David guy from Harvey will set up shop there, or at least provide support/advice. Or we can pick a few families that lost everything and help them out. We will see. Let’s give them another day or 2 to get in and see what they are dealing with.
  8. Clothes are going to have to get there from someone locally right now that can get them there. Trust me I’m working on it going forward. After Harvey, we were giving away water and cleaning supplies because we had way too much. Clothes and straight up money was gold. And ice, and fuel, but without knowing the exact damage there it’s hard to say what they are going to need. Volunteers to help with the debris removal will be my guess for their biggest need. No offense to LA, but I don’t think they will have the outpouring of support that Texas saw. Now, it’s still a bit of a question as to how and where we can get in. Grand Isle and Port Fourchon are out for a bit, Houma is doable, we hope. If not the Port A care package is going to try to get to New Orleans or the western parts of N.O. that need it the most. I doubt they will be able to get close to the coast but they won’t arrive till Thursday so maybe. I’ll know a lot more tomorrow.
  9. We were also about 7 points from being undefeated. This thread sucks. If I remember right you are aggy @lilMAC25
  10. Don’t we already have this thread?
  11. Some gensets are 240 only, I think. Don’t take it from me I’m only familiar with boats and I don’t know shit about fuck with them either.
  12. We are working on it. Should be a thread up tomorrow. Thanks y’all, and again it won’t be about what we do tomorrow, it’s next week or next month when they will really need help. Right now as much as I’d like to head there, I’m not much help and I’d be taking away a hotel room from someone that is homeless or someone that’s an electric linesman that really, really needs to be there. Again, if you want to help right now, it’s clothes. They will have plenty of drinkable water and food from FEMA and other sources.
  13. I wish we could take Beertha. when Shortys finally opened up on the generator and people could actually go in and have a cold beer after working all day clearing debris, half of them cried. The smell, and the flies is something you never want to experience. And that part of Louisiana is way poorer than what we went through here with Harvey.
  14. So…. Port A is sending a trailer of supplies, and money to Houma and anywhere else they can help. It leaves Wednesday. Thank you Zarsky lumber and the other people here that made that happen. Having gone through this before, they need clothes. Seriously if you can give just a few T-shirt’s or shorts it will help. And pots and pans and almost anything you can think of that would help if you lost everything. They also need moral support and beer and cigs. Seriously. The moral support is as important as the other stuff, and the beer at the end of the day helps. Especially if it’s cold beer. @immamac you ok if I start a thread for donations? Maybe we can do a Gofundme from Surly. I’m going to wait out and see where the needs are, but in a week or 2 there will be people there that really need help. I’ll be driving over in an SUV so can’t take much, but might be able to arrange some things.
  15. So regarding the charity conversation the RC might be fine, but if you are wanting to get help quickly to the people try to find a way to get it to local charities or even directly to people on the ground. After Harvey in Port A some people organized what came to be known as “Camp David”, which provided hot meals every day for locals and volunteers and electric line workers, etc. That was huge. If you find a way to get money to groups like that it makes a huge difference. Also the volunteers for cleanup. I had 3 roofs in my yard and no way to get them out. A couple from out of town came in with a bobcat and I was on the list as needing help with large debris removal. 5 of us spent 2 days getting all the crap out of my yard. No idea what I would have done without that help. Regarding Grand Isle, it’s an island very similar to Port Aransas except almost a complete lack of dunes. It’s gonna be rough there because of the storm surge. Thankfully their wind speeds didn’t look too bad - lower than what Port A and Rockport got during Harvey - so maybe it’s not completely wiped out.
  16. Rebecca crushed it again. today was TWAT tournament (texas women’s angler tournament and yes the girls named it). 2nd place overall, and first place blue marlin. They are on fire this year and it’s too bad it’s the last tourney of the season. Congrats to Clinton, Reid, Rambo and the team. That’s a 2nd, 1st, and a 2nd in their last 3 tournaments for those keeping track at home. 1st place boat , Tenacious, was another local boat that spends a lot of their time in the marina I’m in in CR. Awesome job Vince and Nyla.
  17. Still like 15 minutes to kickoff. The way 2020/21 have gone there is still time for the asteroid to wipe out the planet.
  18. What’s Island Time? That’s a new one to me.
  19. There’s a thread for that commentary, and you know it. You aren’t even responding to anything on this page. I don’t know why they let you get away with your passive aggrresive CR bullshit that you spew everywhere. if it makes you feel better, this thread got a little off track lately. Cheers and hook ‘em.
  20. I think cheetah’s shut down. Not that I would know anything about that.
  21. Starting to? at this point it all just makes me angry and it shows in my posts. On the plus side, my mother (married to my stepfather who was an obgyn surgeon) is now willing to go get the booster or 3rd shot. She talked to her doctor yesterday. 2 days ago she was telling me that her husband was telling her not to get the 3rd shot and to go on a prophylactic course of (pharmaceutical) ivermectin. Now, I’m not in with the surly group thought that seems to equate Tractor Supply horse paste with prescribed Ivermectin, but it was a relief to say the least. Her doc also said if she shows ANY symptoms that might be even allergies to come in and get tested. He’s got the monoclonal antibody thing and is giving it out immediately to anyone that tests +
  22. @NorthLoopCalled it. Twice. This thing is going to Tampa. I hope. I really don’t want to be looking for a place to stay early next week. No offense to Tampa or Clearwater which might have been the worst place I’ve ever spent 3 or 4 days.
  23. It’s the fucking daily Texan thread about hurricanes. I know you can’t help yourself but no it’s not the place to talk about any of that.
  24. Good grief. Vietnam and Republic downtown, Yardarm is worth a look. Dragonfly on north padre along with Rock n Roll sushi. Scuttlebutt’s for casual food and a good happy hour. There’s plenty of good food. 3putt is right the Mexican food is terrible. He didn’t actually say that but it’s true.
