  1. Well, we are up on new cases from last Wednesday, again. However they nailed it and whatever data they are looking at should be at least worth a look as a model going forward. It’s still not a decline yet but it’s looking better. From today’s report - “• New cases showing signs of peaking • Hospitalizations still skyrocketing https://www.cctexas.com/sites/default/files/20210825-Public-Health-Briefing.pdf
  2. I don’t know where they are getting their data for their model then. Avg new cases per day has increased since Aug. 13th. I’m just going off what the county is reporting every day. https://www.caller.com/story/news/local/2021/08/02/nueces-county-covid-tracker-daily-updates-cases-deaths-hospitals/5462565001/
  3. As of late last week Corpus was definitely not declining. Last week’s report was “new cases skyrocketing and hospitalizations skyrocketing.” R# was 1.25 New report comes out today so hopefully it’s better news.
  4. Happy Harvey 4th anniversary everyone! Needless to say that isn’t helping matters with locals here in Port A. Everyone is on edge. I’m Liking the recent storm track towards LA a lot.
  5. What is 95% of the population vs.5%, Alex? Also it’s not surprising to see the lawyers reversing the trend and fucking things up.
  6. So I have a pretty good friend that recently broke up with his longtime girlfriend. He didn’t mention why and I didn’t want to ask. So his girlfriend came into town this weekend and I bumped into her. She’d been drinking and was pretty talkative and eventually brought up why they broke up. Apparently he had been trying to convince her to get vaccinated for a few months and she kept refusing, so last month he decided he’d had enough and told her if she wouldn’t do it he was leaving her. She still refused, so he left her. She’s extremely upset about the whole deal. So I asked her why she wouldn’t take the shot. She said, and I quote “I just don’t want to”. That was her entire reason. At that point I threw my beer on her and walked off. Ok I didn’t do that but I wanted to. And no, y’all don’t want pics. it’s really hard to comprehend the level of stupidity we are dealing with.
  7. Back on track, this wasn’t one of their more thorough updates but https://www.cctexas.com/sites/default/files/20210818-Public-Health-Briefing.pdf And I do like this conclusion : SUMMARY • New cases skyrocketing • Hospitalizations skyrocketing • Recommendations to avoid public health disaster • Change behavior A.S.A.P. • Mask up in public • Social distance • Self-isolate if symptomatic • Get Vaccinated
  8. Yes, but that still doesn’t get you to 30% of adults or whatever it is now that is not vaccinated. Hell, maybe it does. If you just go by age I’m pretty sure the young people are just trying to kill us all off. There is an enormous gap in vaccination rates -roughly 20% - between age 20-40 - and then age 40 plus. im going to put the links in the CR thread because I don’t want to mess this thread up.
  9. I don’t know that there is any evidence of Delta being less harmful or deadly. I think that was more the theory that as the virus evolved it would be less deadly because that’s what a virus tends to do. I’m still amazed by all of this. I know a very large cross section of people and everyone I know is vaxxed and pro vaccine. I’m still trying to figure out who is refusing to do it. It appears to me at least that it’s the uneducated and unfortunately there is no quick or easy fix for that other than cutting out their access to Walmart.
  10. Shit, Eagles had all of like 28 receptions last year and Smith had around 20? Oh and we lost Tariq who got caught from behind by the defender 10 yards behind him that was carrying ctj and Sydney in his jock strap. Our receivers sucked last year. They may suck this year too but they won’t be worse. Moore was our best receiver last year and while he might be a head case, he’s the same dude we trotted out last year. Hopefully we get our guys healthy and they can be better than the suck we had last year - our top 4 receivers combined for around 100 catches for 1500 yards. But yeah, we are going to suck because of our WR group. Holy shit.
  11. I’d guess you are Wanker Bob’s new account, but you are much funnier than he was. Hook ‘em.
  12. So my friends on Rebecca won the billfish tournament out of Freeport last weekend and came in 2nd at Legends in Port A the week before that. They also won a tournament early in the season. Having a heck of a year. And I was supposed to fish with them for last weekend’s tournament but had a scheduling conflict. Sucks for me to say the least.
  13. Y’all might have focused too much on the one restaurant. Port A is probably about average as far as vaccinated percentage goes in Texas. Everyone I know is vaccinated and that’s mostly bar and restaurant people. The one, Roosevelt’s, just seems to have a bad group that fed off each other. On the bright side when they re-open it will be the safest place in town
  14. Nah. Port A has been basically open since April/May of 2020 and had almost no Covid. Locals wore masks really well until the mandate got lifted and then masks went out the window like pretty much everywhere in Texas. This is all Delta and it would happen in any tourist town, and is currently happening in every major city in Texas. It’s more noticeable here because we are small and like you mentioned were already having major staffing issues before this spike. Every restaurant in town has tested all their workers. I promise if you tested all the Austin or Dallas or Houston bar/restaurant employees you wouldn’t like the results. I’m just hoping we get over it quickly.
  15. Mea culpa. I thought they couldn’t even ask. They certainly did not ask me anything when I got my first shot and I got it about a month before I was “eligible”. but you can just lie, right? I mean at this point we are just splitting hairs.Nobody is going to make you prove it. so I have to show them my scar from having my colon removed? It’s not like I’ve got a card for that. Or for the blood clot I had a few years back. I know you are not one of the stupid, but fuck anyone that would deny a shot to someone that wants it.
  16. They can’t legally do that. That’s my point. Whether they want to police it or not doesn’t matter. At least that’s my understanding. It might not be hipaa. Anyway, this all appears to be a mute (moo) point with the new guidance coming out. I asked our head pharmacist here in town at CVS, and he said he would not for example, check if I was previously vaxxed at HEB. He said technically they could but in the real world that just isn’t going to happen. They are much more concerned with people just getting the shots.
  17. I completely get where you are going with that. my experience with mental health issues with a family member though has been more like I don’t want to take this drug, because if I do I won’t experience the highs anymore. Bipolar for what it’s worth. It’s a shitty experience for everyone involved. personally, I spent a ton of time in the hospital when I had my colon removed and not only did I take the drugs, I always asked for more. Experimental? Count me in.
  18. @SEC still trying to figure out your problem here. Vaccinated people are much better off . Wealthy people have access to better healthcare. I offered to help. Care to articulate other than just negging me? Sorry those things bother you..
  19. And then you have someone like Bob Armstrong, most known for his Matt’s queso, but for good or bad, had a huge influence on where Austin is currently. He dabbled in state politics and I think he was Texas GLO commissioner, and then later worked for Clinton when he was president but I don’t recall what he did on that staff. At some point he ran for governor. He sat on many boards and probably had much more influence in Texas and Austin politics than White, Richards, or Clements ever had. Especially Austin. He unfortunately passed, but would consider me a friend if he was still here. I was out with him and his wife not long before he died; his son was playing at Austin Beer Works. To be clear, I was with them because my dad -a republican- knew him. I just got lucky enough to hang out multiple times. While he was a Democrat he didn’t give a shit about my politics, he was good people. Clay Johnson who was the 2nd Bush’s appointments secretary while Bush was Texas governor, is a ut grad and I believe worked on staff for Bush when he was president, maybe as appointment secretary again . I know him, his wife, and kids. I know these people and they are good people. I doubt they ever would have worked for Trump, and if they did they’d quit. Not everyone is an asshat. none of these people are unvaccinated, and they aren’t passing a message to not get vaccinated. The rest of these fucks denying Covid, or working against masks, or especially doing any kind of thing to deny that the vaccine works or even imply that it’s not something that will likely will save your life, well they can go get fucked. TLDR; @Brisketexan and I end up looking like we are arguing when in fact we are on the exact same page. We can all get along. Be careful peeps.
  20. You aren’t wrong at all. But it’s always been this way in Texas. My dad was on staff for Bullock when he was comptroller, back when I was around 10, so 1980ish. One of my favorite stories he tells from back then was something along the lines of they passed a tax bill in closed session and then spent the next few hours trying to figure out what they were going to tell the press. They all lie. I miss those days as a child when I got to hang out outside Cloak Room and give the ants the leftover beers. Good times. I had no idea what was going on. I got a LOT of ants drunk. If I would have been about 6 years older I would have concentrated on getting myself drunk. BCBS had their lobbying offices upstairs from the cloak room. Veranda and all the cocaine was just out behind it but that might have been a more 70’s place like when the original version of Caucus Club was around. Anyway, that’s a lot of words to say I agree but I don’t recall SCOTX back then, or it even being an issue. They (likely) fell in line with the Democrats back then like they do for Abbott now. We are dealing with some stupid fuckers, and we were back then too. At least I don’t think any of them are alcoholics now. The more things change……..
  21. I put this on the Port A thread, but in addition to all the restaurant closures over the last 2 weeks I know of one restaurant here that has 8/10 employees out with Covid. Only one employee was vaxxed. Delta is really bad here. I know a woman who passed away a day ago (not sure of vax status) and a 35 year old on a vent who I also don’t know if vaxxed. I’d guess not but he was definitely in great shape. Pharmacy friend of mine says they are seeing over 20 Covid cases a day. Shit is hitting too close to home. Y’all stay safe.
  22. I’m so torn here. He deserves to get really, really sick. On the other hand he’s vaccinated and maybe comes out of this with no problems and passes that message along. I’m not holding my breath on the latter.
  23. Oh for fucks sake. He’s got money, and access to great healthcare, just like any Democrat with money that gets Covid. He’s also asymptotic and VACCINATED. There’s a message there. If you know anyone struggling to get treated send me a private message and I will be happy to help. If they are unvaccinated, sorry about their luck, but I will still see what I can do.
  24. So I got my original 2 shots at an HEB in Corpus. They did not ask for my drivers license or any other form of ID. I did have to fill out a form with my SSN number, and since I put 123456789 I’m assuming they think I’ve been vaccinated about 1 million times.
