  1. @midtownhas an interesting experience
  2. It wouldn’t make much sense unless the owner knows for a fact they are keeping the boat a long time. I’m not sure a Seakeeper would move the sales price much if at all. That said, they are amazing and I don’t know how I ever lived without one.
  3. Yeah I remember your posts about this boat. That’s the same layout as mine and I really like the side master (old boat had the master forward which sucked). 150k would probably be in the ballpark on fixed expenses as an average but it’s tough to say without a lot more info. And that figure can fluctuate pretty wildly year to year but I know you are easily in a position to handle it. That boat probably has CAT 3412 engines which are reliable and relatively easy to work on. Depending on how many hours are on the engines a boat that age is likely due for an overhaul very soon if it hasn’t already been done. Same with the generator(s) but that’s much less expensive. Anyway, no way I would ever give that deal on my boat to someone paying 10% and then letting them use it for 36 days every year. You are getting a good deal.
  4. More later got a few things to do right now. But by “aftermarket stabilizers” do you mean a Sea Keeper? I’ve got a Sea Keeper 9 on my boat so that should be the right size. It’s about 200k installed. And what year is the boat?
  5. 15-20% total. It’s generally best just to give the captain the entire amount and let him decide what he wants to give the deckhand. Also I’ve tipped more than that and less than that depending on how hard they worked. I tipped 5% on a charter in Cabo that really pissed me off by killing a marlin for no reason. Looking back on it I shouldn’t have tipped them anything.
  6. Aransas Pass HEB (if it’s open). Otherwise at that time of morning your only choice is probably a convenience store. You aren’t going to recognize it.
  7. Knowing the price of Tulemar I’d say 20% or less of the price of the house rental for everyone. Divide that up between house staff and concierge however you feel fit but a lot depends on how much they’ve done for you. 10% would still be a really good tip; they don’t expect anything at all really.
  8. Better option - Hire someone to do it for you.
  9. Have to run an errand out to Calallen today. Cotten’s BBQ any good? Or any other recs?
  10. Yeah, this is a great schedule compared to previous years.
  11. Yeah we were trying to meet you for a beer yesterday
  12. Pretty sure that’s really just the southern part of Tamarindo. Lots of tourists. Good food and drink spots. It’s very dry in that area and hot, not as much wildlife as the central and southern parts of the country. Some really nice beaches within a 30 minute drive that are considered the best beaches in all of CR. The main Tamarindo beach is just ok, I didn’t venture all the way down to what they call the Langosta beach so not sure how it is.
  13. @wild_turkey one place I always seem to forget about in Manuel Antonio might be perfect. https://www.losaltosresort.com If yall end up in Manuel Antonio we will buy y’all some drinks at the marina or somewhere. Wish I was more help in the Tamarindo and northern area but I’ve only been up there twice.
  14. Maybe I misread what you are looking for, but also it sounds like you don’t want to do the drive to Manuel Antonio (there’s also a 15 minute flight on Sansa that works if you can coordinate arrival time with their schedule). But yes, CR is a great place to relax like midtown said. Tamarindo is much busier and touristy than Manuel Antonio but probably has more options for you with easier beach access. CR has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, but those aren’t really close to most of the resort and resort towns. the Tamarindo public beach is just ok, but Playa Conchal and a few others nearby are great.
  15. The bolded part is exactly why people go to CR and love it, so I think you’ve already answered your own question. Obviously I love CR and Tulemar but there are a bunch of other options in the Manuel Antonio area for resorts. Most aren’t going to fit what it sounds like you are looking for though. Same really goes for Tamarindo. It sounds like if you want to stick with CR you’d be happier at one of the high end resorts north of there - the W, Westin, Four Seasons, etc.
  16. This was Thursday. 2/3 on blue marlin, 4/7 sails, lots of tuna. IMG_5615.mov
  17. I’ll put you on a marlin on fly and you will probably piss your pants. At Hobby now, hopefully Port A by midnight. Long day we caught the puddle jumper out of Quepos at 9:30 this morning. I’ll be in touch this week.
  18. Sometimes seems like nobody actually lives there. Population is around 3800 I think. The short term rental thing has gotten out of control though.
  19. Haha I probably know most of them. Virginia is good people though. Most of the locals live in RV parks, but Port A did build the new apartments called Paladium for some low income housing. The current housing situation in Port A is bad and unsustainable. It’s really, really, really hard to hire decent help in the service industry.
  20. Hope you tipped Virginia well. I’m still not used to the new location. I’m still in Costa Rica but will be back in Port A in a week.2 months at “home” and then straight back to CR for most of the summer.
  21. I think it’s a fairly good time to buy. The market definitely seems softer than it was the first 2 years after Covid. I’m currently in the process of buying something. They are struggling a little bit with the cartel violence but so far it really isn’t spilling into the general public or tourists. But I’m definitely a little more cautious about where and what time of day I go somewhere than I was even just last year.
  22. Yeah we ended up 4/5 on sailfish the other day and 0/2 on blues and I would have been thrilled with that back when I had my boat in Port A. But for here it was by far our worst day of the season. Most days we are getting about 30ish billfish bites, a few days in the high teens and a few days with 45+. Tournament coming up on Saturday and hopefully the fishing picks up again. I fish out of Marina Pez Vela in Quepos. Los Suenos about an hour north of here is good too.
  23. August works and yeah that’s still prime season. I’ll shoot you a text.
  24. Welp slow start. Raised one sailfish and one blue marlin. Caught the sail but jumped the blue off. edit- and 5 minutes after the post we just raised another blue. Blind bite on the flat rod ballyhoo but didn’t hook up. Good sign though, that’s 2 in less than 2 hours and we’ve only seen 6 all year. As good as the marlin bite was last sailfish season, this year has been really slow for blues but great for sailfish. Definitely the best sailfish season since ‘21.
