  1. There’s not a person alive who believes Jugs’ obstruction is rooted in any kind of moral principle. He’s just a mean old dumb hillbilly from Itchy Hill, Arkansas who is punching way above his weight. You can watch the GOP Senators seething with anger live on C-SPAN during the WS commercial breaks.
  2. I think it’s fair to say that most Americans no longer pretend to have an ethical compass. (See Santos and Menendez)
  3. You may be correct, but if true, there will never be peace in ME.
  4. More evidence that we undermine support and belief in our own government and its institutions.
  5. A two state solution which all sides agree to would be a tremendous development.
  6. An Israel Defense Forces statement said the strike on Jabalia, Gaza's largest refugee camp, had killed Ibrahim Biari. It said he was a ringleader of what it called the "murderous terror attack" on Oct. 7. Palestinian health officials said at least 50 Palestinians were killed in the refugee camp blast and 150 wounded. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem denied any senior commander there and called the claim an Israeli pretext for killing civilians. A Hamas statement said there were 400 dead and injured in Jabalia, which houses families of refugees from wars with Israel dating back to 1948. Reuters could not independently verify the reported casualty figures. The blast left large craters in a rubble filled area surrounded by wrecked concrete buildings. Israel has sent repeated warnings to Gaza residents to evacuate northern areas and while many have gone south, many have not. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-says-it-fires-israeli-troops-pressing-gaza-ground-assault-2023-10-31/
  7. Good: https://news.yahoo.com/finally-senate-democrats-coming-clarence-155843128.html Senate Democrats have finally taken the first steps to address the ethics crisisrocking the Supreme Court. The Senate Judiciary Committee announced Monday that it will seek to subpoena Republican billionaire megadonor Harlan Crow and ultraconservative activist Leonard Leo. Both men feature prominently in the ethics scandal for their relationships with Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. The committee will also seek to subpoena wealthy GOP donor Robin Arkley II. “The Supreme Court is in an ethical crisis of its own making,” the committee said in a statement. “In order to adequately address this crisis, it is imperative that we understand the full extent of how people with interests before the Court are able to use undisclosed gifts to gain private access to the justices.” All three men have so far either refused to cooperate with the committee’s investigation or offered to share an insufficient amount of information. The committee could authorize the subpoenas after a vote as soon as next week

  12. When wrestling with issue of unchecked gun violence, I am reminded of something called the Naaman Effect. In its abbreviated form , it is when we confer upon ourselves permission to live in a state of misalignment. This is particularly true for those of us who, for a variety of reasons, won’t fully live our convictions regarding the evils of gun violence and our tolerance of it. We know better, but we won’t o do better. I have to believe that we will eventually be called to a place beyond the Naaman Effect and into a place of alignment that will prompt us to fight gun violence with integrity and without fear.

  14. If we compare the current growth rate in a historical context, we discover that GDP Growth Rate in the United States averaged 3.19 percent from 1947 until 2023, reaching an all time high of 34.80 percent in the third quarter of 2020 and a record low of -28.00 percent in the second quarter of 2020. https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/gdp-growth#:~:text=GDP Growth Rate in the,the second quarter of 2020.
  15. Let’s talk about Bidenomics. Shall we? https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-economic-growth-accelerates-third-quarter-2023-10-26/ Third-quarter GDP increases at 4.9% rate Consumer spending accelerates; business investment soft Inventory accumulation, government spending offer boost WASHINGTON, Oct 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. economy grew almost 5% in the third quarter, again defying dire warnings of a recession, as higher wages from a tight labor market helped to fuel consumer spending and businesses restocked at a brisk clip to meet the strong demand. The fastest growth pace in nearly two years reported by the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis on Thursday in its advance estimate of third-quarter gross domestic product was also spurred by a rebound in residential investment after contracting for nine straight quarters.

    The Border

I think we have a winner: https://americasvoice.org/blog/false-gop-messages-about-open-borders-continue-to-lure-desperate-migrants-aid-criminal-smugglers-and-cartels/ It’s more than clear that the only people who keep pushing these “open borders” lies are Republicans and their political allies including right-wing media. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that this right-wing disinformation has continued to fuel some arrivals at the southern border, by manipulating already-desperate people who are facing violence, government persecution, and extreme poverty in their home countries with luring and false messages about an “open border.” Alfredo Corchado, a border correspondent with The Dallas Morning News, this week shared a short interview with a Venezuelan migrant “lured by false social media posts,” notably from racist conservative outlet Breitbart. In the clip, the migrant says he fled because of conditions in his country, noting that citizens there are persecuted, are unable to buy food, and can’t even get medical attention unless they have a connection. “You could die from a disease because they uh won’t treat you,” he said in the Spanish-language clip. When asked what prompted him to try to make an asylum claim, the man said it was because of information he saw on social media. “The news came from Breitbart?” Corchado asked. “Yes, correct,” the man replied. He added that because he’s not from here, he’s not sure if the source is reliable or not. It’s Breitbart — of course it’s not. We also know that this is in no way an isolated incident. “I met with migrants in Costa Rica that were turned back, and their sense was that they will be able to enter freely,” New York Representative Adriano Espaillat told Caleb Ecarma from Vanity Fair last month, “arguing that the ‘confusion’ stems squarely from right-wing disinformation.” In fact, when Republicans push “open borders” disinformation, they’re abetting criminal human smugglers who target vulnerable people desperate for a way, any way, into the U.S. “Smugglers are constantly peddling that type of misinformation because they’re looking to feed their bottom line,” Hope Border Institute executive director Dylan Corbett told Vanity Fair. He noted “that traffickers falsely advertise ‘open’ crossings to migrants desperate for a way into the US,” the report continued. Smuggling attempts can end in tragedy. 53 migrants lost their lives following one attempt last year, when migrants suffocated to death inside a sweltering hot tractor-trailer outside San Antonio.

  20. I don’t believe that every school, business and residence within a 50 mile radius of Lewiston would be on lockdown if the suspect was believed to be armed with butter knife. It’s the gun that makes him dangerous. Stop pretending not to know this, America.
