  1. Sad but true. She even served as a co chair of the DNC for a time.
  2. All he has to do is give Trump a big bag in appreciation for allowing him to serve on his commission, tell him how smart he is and how good his hair and make up look, and pressure will be placed on ESPN to include Tech. Easy peasy.
  3. I can’t decide if these people are crazy, mean, evil or a combination of all three. It still boggles the mind that people like this guy fancy themselves as Christian: https://www.aol.com/doj-weaponization-group-shame-individuals-205413048.html WASHINGTON — The conservative activist named by President Donald Trump as the head of the Justice Department's "Weaponization Working Group" said Tuesday he planned to "name" and "shame" individuals the department determines it is unable to charge with crimes, in what would amount to a major departure from longstanding Justice Department protocols. Ed Martin described himself at a press conference as the "captain" of the group that is investigating prosecutors who launched past investigations into Trump and his allies. “There are some really bad actors, some people that did some really bad things to the American people. And if they can be charged, we’ll charge them. But if they can’t be charged, we will name them," Martin said. "And we will name them, and in a culture that respects shame, they should be people that are ashamed. And that’s a fact. That’s the way things work. And so that’s, that’s how I believe the job operates.” During Trump's first tenure, the justification given for Trump's firing of former FBI Director James Comey was that Comey had given a press conference in which he released "derogatory information" about then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016. "Derogatory information sometimes is disclosed in the course of criminal investigations and prosecutions, but we never release it gratuitously," then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein wrote in a memo, adding that he believed Comey had given a "textbook example of what federal prosecutors and agents are taught not to do." Martin's remarks came on his last full day as interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia on Tuesday. Trump announced last week that he was naming Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney following Martin's 120-day tenure, instead making Martin the pardon attorney, associate deputy attorney general, and director of the "Weaponization Working Group" that Attorney General Pam Bondi established at the Justice Department in response to one of Trump's executive orders.
  4. My view as an outsider is many in the dominant culture tend support those in whom they can see themselves and find relatable. While Obama may be viewed as the obvious outlier, his affable persona and annoying habit of being far too beseeching of those who hated him, did little to assuage the discomfort of millions. They felt disconnected from the White House culture and longed for time when there was a feeling of belonging. Trump gave them that and more. When the specter of a return to that which made them feel like outsiders was threatening, dominant culture voters opted for the flawed familiar. Given how feckless the voting public can be, it’s hard to predict how receptive the majority would be to well qualified gay Christian, husband and father. There just may be enough of the good stuff that they can see themselves in Pete.
  5. I think Campbell is doing his Jerry Jones imitation - saving rich people from themselves.
  6. Meh. They play at Vandy.
  7. To hear them admit their preference for white people who are a better cultural fit than say, the Afghans who we’re turning our backs on, was shocking in just how clear they are about their immigration plans going forward.
  8. Looks like Saban wants only 40 schools in the super league, which really means ESPN only wants 40: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6351340/2025/05/13/nick-saban-cody-campbell-college-sports/
  9. The corporatists are desperately trying to hold on to power. This is a shitty move: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/dnc-subcommittee-recommends-redoing-vice-chair-elections-putting/story?id=121751231 The Democratic National Committee's Credentials subcommittee has recommended that the party should once again hold vice-chair elections over complaints that there were issues with how the balloting was conducted -- a move that places its vice chairs David Hogg and Malcolm Kenyatta in jeopardy of losing their positions. The recommendation, made after the committee's vote on Monday, comes after the party-wide officer races in February. The subcommittee's deliberations were based on a challenge filed by vice chair candidate Kalyn Free on how the election was conducted. Free's counsel argued that the way some of the voting was conducted allowed Hogg and Kenyatta to unfairly receive more votes than Free, who also sought a vice-chair role.
  10. Tribal camps are forming. I don’t think it’s a good thing but I’m not sure, given the political climate, it can be avoided.
  11. Watched part of a fascinating round table on CNN during which the guests candidly discussed Donald Trump’s in your face, unapologetic racism. The experience was both refreshing and disturbing because those on the panel dropped any pretense of trying to explain away Trump’s racist motives in this initiative. The disturbing part was just how normal it sounded.
  12. To what degree does it bother anybody else that the fans are nothing more that props who have become absolute last consideration in any of this money based deal making?
  13. Again, I believe it’s not so much his genius as it is the willingness of millions to accept being intentionally being lied to. It’s astonishing.
  14. Twice, this kind of thinking gives me pause. In a recent conversation with a doctor friend of mine, he said it was next to impossible to get doctors to support prosecution of wayward doctors. The more I thought about it, it occurred to me the same cold be said of law enforcement, clergy, coaches, politicians and other groups.
  15. It’s not at all clear that they’re “ICE Agents.” Most likely of hodgepodge of deputized goons.
  16. These people would have made good 1930s Germans: https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/politics/stephen-miller--administration-considering-suspending-habeas--corpus/118570683/page-2/
  17. Bishop Robert Barron stated that the Catholic Church might not elect an American as pope until the US undergoes a period of political decline. His reasoning, echoing that of Cardinal George, suggests that the Church might avoid giving the papacy to a leader from a nation perceived as politically dominant, fearing the perception of control. I don’t think even he knew how prescient his comments were at the time he made them. Our political decline has been rapid and severe.

  19. Good grief: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6341165/2025/05/07/donald-trump-commission-on-college-athletics/ Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Texas Tech board of regents chairman Cody Campbell would co-chair the commission President Donald Trump is interested in forming to examine the long list of issues facing college sports, a source briefed on the plans told The Athletic. The source said Trump is expected to be “very engaged” with the commission because he sees the current state of college sports as an issue of national importance. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported Trump was interested in weighing in with an executive order after the president spoke last week with Saban, who has expressed concern that college sports is being harmed by the big money pouring into it to compensate athletes with little regulation. Yahoo Sports first reported Wednesday that Trump is planning to create a presidential commission to examine a long list of issues facing college sports, from booster-funded payments and transfer rules to conference alignment and Title IX. Campbell, who was elected chairman of the Texas Tech board of regents last month, is a former Red Raiders football player and one of the university’s most prominent donors. He is the co-founder and co-executive of Double Eagle Energy Holdings, an upstream oil and gas company based out of Fort Worth, Texas, which operates extensively in the Permian Basin region of West Texas. Campbell is also the co-founder of the Matador Club, an NIL collective that supports Texas Tech athletics, and he recently spearheaded the new $242 million south endzone project at Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium, which overlooks Cody Campbell Field. In February, Double Eagle sold a development for $4.1 billion, and in 2021, the company sold a previous development for $6.4 billion. Last month, Double Eagle announced a continued and expanded partnership with EnCap Investments, a prominent private equity company that specializes in the oil and gas industry. Campbell is a board member of Texas Public Policy Foundation and a distinguished fellow at the America First Policy Institute, the latter which has been integral to President Trump’s second-term policy agenda. A presidential commission would typically dig into various aspects of an issue or enterprise and deliver a report suggesting possible solutions that could involve executive and legislative action. Earlier this month, Trump signed an executive order creating the Religious Liberty Commission.
  20. You kinda have to believe he’s trolling the country with these ludicrous pics.
  21. His trade deals are the new Infrastructure Week - mythical.
  22. It will be fascinating to watch the degree to which the willingness of billionaires from spend will destabilize the traditional blue blood pool of schools. Inarguably, they have gobs of money, but it is becoming increasingly clear that they don’t have all the money. SMU bought its way into the playoff and aren’t showing signs of retreat. BYU has surprised with its level of engagement. It will be interesting…
