Primary concern is getting dickhead off the road. Should my daughter go ahead and file and claim or wait and see what the police may or may not do, probably doesn't matter. If he denies hitting her with his insurance company I am guessing if we want the car fixed we would have to file with our insurance company? I could play them the 911 call to prove he rear ended her.

This happened to my oldest daughter out-of-state. Short story - she was driving 5-10mph over the speed limit on a 50mph road minding her business. Douchebag drives up next to her, kind of spooked her, she said she decided not look at him and continue driving. He drops back behind her, a couple of car lengths. She proceeds to get into the left turning lane and he follows. She starts to get a weird feeling and thinks douchebag is following her, so she quickly moves back into the right lane and heads right instead of left to the grocery store. This was a mistake on her part, she's 19 and was scared, no pics. I told her she should have continued to the grocery store, public place with lots of people. He follows her into the right lane, which really freaks her out. She starts speeding to try and get away. He comes up quickly and rear ends her. She finds a safe place to pull over, mistake #2. He pulls over with his car at an angle in front of hers, I guess thinking he was blocking her in. My daughter is scared and decides to call 911. He comes up to her window screaming I am trying to teach you a lesson, as if he is the police. At this point my daughter is crying hysterically while on the phone with 911, she is scared. 911 tells her to lock the doors and roll up the windows. She gives 911 the license plate, description of the car and douchebag. On the 911 call you can hear him admit to rear ending my daughter's car. Douchebag sees the call is 911 from the dashboard screen and leaves the scene. Police show up a few minutes later, take my daughter's statement and they have someone follow her back to her apartment. Police tracked dickhead down and he tells them he was trying to teach her lesson and denied hitting her car (even though there is damage, minimal, but still there). Police decide to write it up as an incident and let the insurance companies handle it. My wife and I happen to be flying up the following week to visit her. We stopped at the police station asking for the officer's direct supervisor. The officer walks out, not his supervisor and we start asking him why this is not treated as a hit and run or road rage. He explains the dickhead denied hitting her and there were no witnesses, no one stopped to offer assistance. His two choices were to ticket them both or let the insurance companies handle it. We politely ask for his supervisor. His supervisor was a lot more understanding and willing to look into the situation. He said he would look at the body camera footage and listen to the 911 call. He did say he was leaving for vacation and wouldn't be able to review it for two weeks, so we are waiting on his findings. My questions are this, should I contact his insurance company and file a claim or what to see what the police may or may not do? If filing a claim is there any sort of way of extracting a few extra dollars from the insurance company for my daughter without getting a lawyer? I am not asking for 10K but maybe an extra $300-500 for her. Short version - dickhead rear ends my daughter, yelling at her, she calls police, he leaves the scene - police write-it up as an accident - my daughter doesn't want him to get away with it, how does she handle it with dickhead's insurance

2nd 1UP - I’ve got one and it’s great. Never an issue in 6 years and I don’t foresee one for another 10 years, super solid products.

Looking for dinner rev pre-game. Taking a friend and his son to Austin this weekend to show them around campus. I haven’t been back to Austin in over five years. For lunch I was going to do Dirty Martins. We are going to the game so something before the game that won’t require a huge wait would be preferable and nothing fancy.

We've got a tankless, what a pain in the rear to get it installed too. We didn't go cheapest install nor most expensive, went with a company we thought would do the job right. Lots of problems created by going tankless, all stemming from the install. Best advice is look on the manufacturers website for certified installers and ask for quotes. Ours is in the attic and nearly froze during the snow shit storm. We kept a space heater on it, when we had power, otherwise the plumber said it would have failed. He said a neighborhood down the street where the builder put them all on the outside, they all froze and needed to be replaced. Your gas line will have to be upgraded, no way around that. Everything is working correctly now, but for a couple of months it was a pain in the ass. Looking back at it now, I am not sure what the dig deal is with tankless, we never ran out of hot water.. We have a recirculating system, quick hot water was never an issue. Hire a reputable plumber, someone that is going to do the job right.

Cleaning out the office, trying to minimize the "stuff" in the office.

I bought this football from the coop shortly after the National Championship game. Thinking around $75 obo. I will ship only in the continental US, no best buy coupons or hdmi ports as a trade. I also have an acrylic case, but will need to charge a little bit in shipping if you want that, too.

I’ve been on that trail running in the dark. I only ran about a 1/2 from the road before I turned around. I wasn’t concerned I just needed to get back. Every time I go visit my daughter I run past the trailhead. I won’t run on that trail in the dark again. I probably shouldn’t run on mountain trails in the dark anyway.

A couple of weeks ago my daughter asked me to come up and hike up to the peak of Mt Nebo in Utah. I jumped at the opportunity since she may never ask me again. It was a really nice hike in the Wasatch mountain range. The peak is not really high, a little less than 12K ft. The last mile though is 20% grade and is an ass breaker. We ended up turning around with 1/2 mile to go. She started freaking out when a guy was coming back down blood from head to toes. He said he stumbled about 40ft down the side. I didn't want to push her so we turned around and hiked back to the car. The scenery was amazing and the temps were incredible. After we got back to the car, we ate some lunch and drove to a different area and hiked to the top of Sunset Peak, around 10.6K ft. Over 12 miles of hiking, it was great. Unfortunately I had to fly home the next day. I had a fantastic time, it had been a few years since we spent an entire day together.

FoxFire Cabins - it’s been 10 years since I’ve been there but they had a porch, cheap, allowed dogs. Not sure of the tub though.

She’s at BYU, mom (wife) is Mormon, I’m not. We saved enough for 4yrs at UT but 4yrs at BYU will cost around 40K or less. I’m super happy about that. Room, tuition and books $8.5K this year. They rebuilt some dorms about 10 years ago that she is in. It’s like a small apt; 3 Rooms, kitchen, living area and two baths for 6 girls. The weekend I dropped her off we did a 3.5 mile hike to a waterfall. That was fun. I told her if she kept up the outdoor activities I would buy her a Garmin Etrax so she wouldn’t get lost.

My oldest daughter is in college and living out of state. Kind of depressing dropping her off at school. She cried more than her mom and I. She’s in Utah really enjoying the outdoors. Which is bizarre because I tried to get my kids to enjoy nature but nada. Now she is wanting me to go on a 15 mile hike with her this month. I am more than happy to fly up there and do it with her. She might only be asking me since she knows I can make it and maybe her roommates can’t, not sure, either way I’ll take it.

Reader glasses and the Texas DMV
hrmaddie replied to Orange&White's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Same predicament back in March. I emailed DMV and they replied with go see the eye doctor. I went online and filled out the renew application for shits and they accepted it. I got my new license in the mail without having to go in. Maybe b/c it was during the shutdown, but something you could try. -
I attempted to ride up Mt Evans, CO, highest paved road in North America. Starting in Idaho Springs it is 27 miles to the top. I got to mile 13 at Echo Lake and was meeting my FIL to refill my water bottles and my adductor muscles (or that is what muscles I think) locked up on me. They run from the rear about halfway to the knee on the back of the thigh, towards the inside. When I stepped off the bike I couldn’t move both legs. I was in terrible pain. I almost fell off the bike just trying to lift my leg over it. My day was done, I was gutted. My guess is those muscles are used a lot in climbing (I have no idea though) but I went up all 13 miles, from 7500 ft to 10.4K ft. I wasn’t breathing hard, thought I was going at a nice comfortable pace. I figured I needed to save as much energy as possible for the next 14 miles. I’m still sore, hurts to squat, walk up stairs, etc. I need to figure out how to strengthen those muscles, because I want to go back. The weather was perfect too a little breeze, 55F and sunny.

Asking for a friend he/she got a speeding ticket in Live Oak County last Friday. Is getting a traffic lawyer worth it? Any recs in that area? Driving over the 20mph so defensive driving is out of the question. Plus also cited for driving in the left lane and not passing (bullshit money grab). Friend would rather not get the points on their license. Don't have a ton of money, so maybe paying the fine is the way to go. Problem is, the insurance rates are already sky high, this will push them over the edge. One lawyer quoted $1K plus court costs and no guarantee of anything.

Urban Achiever - congrats!!! Awesome time

I'm training not as much as I would like, since the kids are home now. I still get in 12+ hours per week. Last couple of days have been hard due to lack of sleep. I let the family talk me into a puppy, FML. I have a 10 yr old dog that just walks around and does nothing. Now for the next 5-6 years I have to worry what the hell is this dog going to destroy.

Just received an email trail race has been cancelled. Was going to be my first 50 miler. The miles and miles I put in, averaged over 70-85 for a couple of months, hit 90+ twice and hit 100 a few weeks ago. Came home from my morning run only to get the cancellation email, damnit!!! Damnit ALL!!!!!!!

I'm seriously considering the (as in I really, really, really want to) rim to rim to rim. Anyone done it or interested, please pm me. Not sure when, but I've read Oct/Nov and April/May are good times to do it. I'm not looking to set a land speed record, but I don't want to be out there for 16+ hours. I'm currently in the how the hell do I get started planning phase. Good luck to the Austin marathon racers!!!
