Last year I read "This Tender Land" by William Kent Krueger and loved it. Currently reading "Ordinary Grace" and loving it as well. My wife's book club recently read "The River We Remember" and said it was great too.
All stories set in rural Minnesota usually in the first half of the 20th century. Good prose, good descriptive writing, good stories. I highly recommend.
My front yard is so completely shaded that I haven't gotten any grass to grow in it in 3 years. This winter I'm getting the trees super trimmed and am gonna put some real effort in getting some shade grass to grow. If it doesn't happen again, we're going xeriscape and not looking back.
Luckily my backyard has stayed lush throughout. I only water it once a week but you can tell the previous owner put some serious work into it because it's stayed nice in the 4 years we've lived here. I will continue to work to keep it nice since my kids still play in it and our backyard is a pretty good size compared to the rest of the yards in the suburban hell of this side of NB.
My wife does this and it drives me nuts. She claims that it's because she wants to make sure they're actually stopping. I'm like .. you can fucking see them slowing down.
She also does this shit where she's coming to a stop sign and is clearly going to beat the other car, so she hesitates just enough to make it a tie. Then both cars do that stupid little dance, and she gets all pissed off. I'm like .... if you just fucking stopped normally it would've clearly been your turn.
When I was in HS they had it syndicated on some local channel and would air like 4 eps every afternoon. I filled up about 10 VHS tapes worth of episodes. I'm pretty sure I still have those tapes somewhere.
Finished The Long Walk. Really enjoyed it - but the ending left me pretty meh. I've heard the ending is different in the movie but don't know how - not sure if I wanna watch it or not.
