  1. It does look cool... Will have to check it out sometime. That said, it looks a little less ~peaceful~ and isolated than what I’m looking for. Thanks for the suggestion though!
  2. Thinking about driving up one weekend before football season starts. What are the best hikes? Things to see, places to eat/drink on the way, etc.. Seems like the closest decent hiking to DFW.
  3. LMAO... I’ve heard the term used for outdoor malls that have more to do than just shopping and have better restaurants than generic chains. Perhaps I was mistaken.
  4. I’m a big fan of “lifestyle centers” rather than malls. For example, I could hang out at the new Legacy West development in Plano all day... The Stonebriar Mall, less than two miles away.... No thanks.

Tried Meat U Anywhere today in Grapevine. Thought it was quite passable. Would give the Brisket 7.5/10, the turkey a 7/10. They had some of the best slaw I’ve ever had too. The best part: no ridiculous line.
  7. GRUB had a great day today. I have an exceedingly small position (8 shares), but hey, any time a stock goes up 25% in one day, that’s real money.
  8. Unless you have #NoSunshine and miss the orange grove...
  9. My elementary and middle school were lily white with a few asians mixed in. Also some black kids from Boston who were bused in... Went to a Jesuit High school in the city... We were probably about 70% white, 10% asian, 10% black, 10% latino (mostly dominicans and el salvadorans). Rice honestly was pretty integrated racially and economically... 35% white, 26% asian, 15% latino, 7% black (internationals don't count as part of that statistic but we all know what 90% of those are).
  10. Only 100 at the office in Plano right now. Child’s play.
  11. I've watched all three seasons... A couple comments on this one in particular: 1) I think both the EMCC And ICC coaches are crazy... To me, Buddy seems like he is a better x's and o's guy but the Independence guy relates better to his players. Both have anger issues. 2) I know one of the guys in this show pretty well (follow each other on social media, have each other's phone numbers, but not really friends), and he was a total idiot at his former school. He comes across as one of the "smart guys" on this show, which is kind of funny. 3) The fan interaction seemed a lot more forced on this show. The old men in the coffee shop seemed like such props.
  12. 107 in Frisco right now... Pool water is probably like 85-90 but still kinda refreshing.
  13. Perspective from a "Young Millennial" (or some say I fall outside of it having been born in '96) who just graduated college and recently started my first job out of school: -Coming out of school with no debt is a huge, huge, huge relief. I can't tell you how many friends of mine are financially hamstrung by having large amounts of debt (and this is coming from a school like Rice that supposedly has great financial aid). It's not so, so bad for those of us entering industry/consulting/banking but for those looking at another several years of PhD/Med School/etc, it sucks. -Lots of companies don't give great 401k matches. I work for a Fortune 50 and our match is only 2% with another 2% ARC (this gets higher as you get older/work there longer). Better than nothing, yes... But hardly going to make your 401k fat. Ultimately, it looks like I'll have the equivalent about 7-8% of my income into my 401k my first year of work. This would be higher if I didn't have a bunch of "one-time" expenses like a car down payment, buying furniture for my apartment, etc. -There are lots of 20somethings who want to "live their best life" during their 20's... Whether that's outlandish travel, bottle service every weekend, $30/session workout classes, it all adds up. Personally, I took tons of hours during college so I could finish a semester early and get the travel bug out of me before I started work... Probably only domestic travel for me for a few years now (maybe Canada or Mexico but that doesn't really count). I actually find that the correlation between income and travel is inverse. My friends who are making the most money (in IB) have no time to travel, those of us in the middle have some time but are also reasonably smart about their money, and its the poor ones who have lots of time AND poor financial management skills. -I think some on here underestimate the cost of housing... Obviously housing prices in most Texas cities have gone through the roof, making it difficult to buy. That said, it's even difficult to find a cheap one bedroom to rent in Dallas if you want to live in a decent area. I'm not even talking luxury high rises. I'm just talking about a place where people don't do/sell drugs out in front. Another thing about most Texas cities is that there isn't the same stock of brownstones, three-deckers, etc. where you can live with five of your buddies for fairly cheap like you find in much of the northeast.
  14. Just moved to right around Tollway/SRT... Seems to be a heavy dose of chains (which I expected). What are the good local places? So far I’ve been to Hutchins BBQ (great) and Growler USA (in the Colony, good beer bar) but other than that, just chains. With the amount of Asians in this area, there’s gotta be some good ethnic food?
  15. A couple things to note here: -BA does have TSA Pre as of May. -As others have noted, it will be of no help on the LHR end. It won’t really help anywhere in Europe. -If you do get global entry, you are eligible for an APEC card which is essentially the GE of Asia, Australia, and Canada, but only if you are a BUSINESS traveler.
  16. Go ski Tignes/Val D’isere in the French Alps... Usually pretty good even early season.
  17. If you desperately feel the need to do some siteseeing, I’d recommend MFA Houston, the Menil Collection, and (shameless plug) a walk around the inner loop at Rice (in the AM before it gets hot or Friday night with beers at Valhalla). Going a little further afield, the NASA tour is a bit kitschy but cool to do once.
  18. I’m there right now, actually... Things I’ve enjoyed: Archipelago boat cruise, Swedish History Museum, The Palace (including the museum in the basement which is one of the oldest in Europe), The 1912 Olympic Stadium... Havent really had any food that I’d rave about but honestly haven’t seeked it out either. Everything has been decent though. City is a lot more diverse than I expected... Eaten some kebabs and tapas that were good. Leaving for 9 days in Norway tomorrow. Will post photos when I’m back in the states.
  19. Bar Harbor water will induce massive amounts of shrinkage but if you don't mind colder water, York Beach in Southern Maine on the way up or down could be an option for some sand and warm(er) water.
  20. No, this actually a new series from what I understand. The ‘17 series was a return for the ‘15 series at Reckling. Rice is either at the Disch in 2019 or 2020 to return this upcoming one.

    Fuck Cancer

For every person this has worked for, 100 have died from not being able to keep on weight from their cancer.
  22. So you’re staying in Dennis... Pretty good, centrally located spot... Suggestions, some of which have been mentioned, some of which have not: -Cape Cod League game... Agree that Chatham is the best park but any of them will do... -If you’re going to do a day trip to one of the islands, I’d go to Nantucket via the high speed ferry from Harwich. Nantucket’s town is more compact and easier to tackle in a day whereas the Vineyard is more spread out. There are buses around the island if you want to go to one of the beaches... If you want the warmest water, go to one of the south facing ones. -Drive up to Welfleet or Provincetown one day. The dunes are absolutely amazing. P-town is super gay but it’s nice and charming with good restaurants... It’s cool to go to the top of the tower there and lookout over the entire Cape.. You can even see the Boston skyline on a clear day. -If you go to Chatham for a game, hit up The Squire for a pre or post game beer. It has a great vibe and there will be lots of talent on a weekend night. They have food too but it’s pretty standard seafood/New England fare. Also great in Chatham for kids (unclear if that’s a factor here)is the Chatham Candy Manor... It has awesome fudge too for adults. -If you want to play golf, Captains is probably the best public course on the cape and it isn’t far from Dennis. Eastward Ho is probably the best on the cape overall, but you have to know someone to play there. Blue Rock is also a fun par three. With regard to traffic: You’ll be fine driving around the Cape on weekdays. Might you hit a snag here or there, yes... Will you want to shoot yourself, no. However, on Saturday coming down from Boston... Either leave Boston before 8 AM or after 3 PM.
  23. I have it from Rice’s assistant ops guy.
  24. Very happy! UT opens @Rice next year so he’ll get a second shot at them (albeit with lower stakes).
  25. Where is your friend’s house on the cape?
